CD Projekt North America has bolstered its ranks with a team of veteran developers to work on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion.
The team includes game director Gabriel Amatangelo, associate game director Paweł Sasko, and creative director Igor Sarzyński, who all worked on the original Cyberpunk 2077. They are joined by Dan Hernberg, Ryan Barnard, Alan Villani, Anna Megill, and Alexander Freed.
The new developers bring a wealth of experience to the project.
Hernberg previously worked on New World, Apex Legends, and Diablo 3 while serving as head of production at both Amazon Games and Panic Button. Barnard was previously a game director at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft, and gameplay director at Hitman studio IO interactive. Villani has worked on various projects including the Mortal Kombat series. Megill is a writer whose credits include Control and the upcoming Fable. And Freed has 15 years of writing experience, including as lead writer on multiple BioWare projects.
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is still in the conceptual design phase, but CD Projekt plans to have about 80 people working on the game by the end of the year.
The company has not yet announced a release date or window for the game.
The appointment of these veteran developers is a sign of CD Projekt’s commitment to creating a sequel that lives up to the high standards set by the original Cyberpunk 2077. With such a talented team on board, Project Orion has the potential to be an even more ambitious and immersive game than its predecessor.
