Top Spin 2K25 represents the return of a legendary series after more than ten years of painful absence. With a stellar gameplay and new features that enhance the variety of every match, this new chapter will meet the expectations of the fans.
TopSpin 2K25 is the best ‘serious’ tennis game we’ve played since, frankly, the last one was released 13 years ago. Its characters look a bit off, its career mode is dry and the typical 2K microtransaction nonsense is in there (to a less intrusive extent than usual), but when it comes to the gameplay on the court it’s far superior to anything else out there.
TopSpin 2K25 is a confident revival firmly worth the 13-year wait. Admittedly, it might not be for everyone, especially with its rather steep learning curve, but for us, that’s what we love about the game. It inspired us to dig deep into the game’s core mechanics and train our way up the ladder. We felt that competitive edge that made us want to master our playstyle and ultimately show off our MyPlayer, cosmetics and all. This is a sports game that can proudly stand alongside its 2K brethren, and one we’re thrilled to see back in action.

| Atarita | Atakan Gümrükçüoğlu | 78 / 100 | 05-03-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 offers a very good experience for players who miss tennis. It has advanced visuals and exciting matches, but can be annoying due to some minor issues and cosmetic microtransactions. | Read review |
| CGMagazine | Jordan Biordi | 6 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | If you enjoy over-indulgent, over-technical gameplay as opposed to genuine fun then Top Spin 2K25 is the game for you! | Read review |
| Checkpoint Gaming | Shamus White | 6.5 / 10 | 04-26-2024 | Hangar 13 did not try to fix TopSpin with this latest entry, but perhaps they should have. With less-than-desirable graphics, a lacking on-release pro player pool, and hard-to-tune difficulty settings which made picking up the game harder than it needed to be, the game is left with much to be desired. Despite that, the bones of TopSpin 2K25 are good, and hopefully, they will be built upon in future games. | Read review |
| COGconnected | James Paley | 78 / 100 | 04-22-2024 | After thirteen years, is this the tennis game you’ve been waiting for? Personally, this simple formula didn’t grab me. This is pure tennis, a faithful simulation of a complex sport. The entire experience has been distilled and purified, perfect for extensive practice and a steady accumulation of skills. But it makes perfect sense to me. Every element of the game funnels the player towards the gradual acquisition of abilities. You will get crazy good at TopSpin tennis if you stick with this game. It’s honestly remarkable how effectively they’ve built this training machine of a sports title. Playing feels intuitive and responsive, they nailed the vibe, and there’s almost nothing between you and the core gameplay loop. The state of the online scene is yet to be properly determined, but even so. If you’ve been looking for the next great tennis sim, TopSpin 2K25 is sure to hit just right. | Read review |
| ComingSoon.net | Tyler Treese | 8 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | Hopefully, future entries will experiment more with the modes and provide a fresher experience, as this provides an incredible base to build off of with rewarding, skill-based gameplay that makes every match an enjoyable one. | Read review |
| Daily Star | Tom Hutchison | 4 / 5 stars | 04-22-2024 | Overall, a strong and much-wanted tennis game that helps to fill a gap in the sporting gaming market. | Read review |
| Evilgamerz | Jeroen Janssen | 7.3 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | It’s great that the tennis genre is being revived by 2K. It seems like a new addition to the studio’s already quite extensive portfolio. In terms of atmosphere and game modes, there is still some room for improvement in the coming years because besides the MyCareer mode, there is not much to do in the game and even the MyCareer is far from varied. Online it feels much the same as offline and you can of course use 2 controllers/players offline. The gameplay, however, manages to keep the game afloat and matches really feel great to play. The timing mechanism and advanced game mechanics ensure that you can make it as easy or difficult as possible, which in turn influences the level of realism. I had a great time with this new game and it seems to be the stepping stone for more and better games in this franchise every year. However, the launch of this new tennis game has not yet been a very successful one. However, do you like tennis games and are you satisfied with good gameplay? Then this is basically the best tennis game on the court. | Read review |
| Game Informer | Brian Shea | 8 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 aptly brings the beloved franchise back to center court, showing that not only does the series still have legs, but so does the sim-tennis genre as a whole. Though its modes are somewhat repetitive and it’s missing several high-profile pros at launch, TopSpin 2K25 serves up a compelling package for tennis fans. | Read review |
| Gameblog | Alix Dulac | 8 / 10 | 04-23-2024 | The king has returned and his comeback is incredible. Gameplay, content… Hangar 13 was able to take back perfectly the strength of Top Spin 4 and applied it again with mastery to lay us one of the best sports games of recent years, all disciplines combined. With its Season Pass, Top Spin 2K25 will erase in the future some of these slags, as a base roster quite weak, but its lackluster graphics will stay. | Read review |
| Gamefa | Moustafa Gad | 7 / 10 | 04-24-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 delivers an entertaining experience, but there is still so much room for improvement, from lack of licensed players to more gameplay modes. | Read review |
| GAMES.CH | Olaf Bleich | 83 / 100 | 04-22-2024 | Welcome back! TopSpin 2K25 delivers superb gameplay on the court and is just as easy to get into yet challenging as ever before. The small roster of talents harms the overall impression. Same goes for the career, that feels a bit outdated at times. | Read review |
| Geeks & Com | Marc-Antoine Bergeron Cote | 7 / 10 | 05-03-2024 | Despite a long absence from the market, the franchise is back with TopSpin 2K25. The game’s immersive gameplay is as good as ever. While remaining accessible, regular players can also increase the difficulty for a real challenge. Unfortunately, the rather limited number of players (only 20, including 2 of the Top 10), the poor face modeling and the mandatory connection can spoil the fun a little. And let’s not forget that the career mode lacks the diversity needed for a real sense of progression. Nonetheless, I enjoyed rediscovering the sensations of a tennis simulation. It’s really once you’ve got the controller in your hand that the fun begins. | Read review |
| Generación Xbox | Javier Gutierrez Bassols | 8.2 / 10 | 04-23-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is the return to the tennis court. A long-awaited comeback and it does so through the front door, taking everything that worked in TopSpin 4 and improving it. Especially its gameplay, based on that title, but much deeper. A game system that feels great at the controls, that is easy to understand but difficult to master and with a pretty good learning curve. At least that’s the feeling it has left us with after several hours of play, that little by little and by trying we have been improving the accuracy of our shots, even in unfavorable situations. | Read review |
| GGRecon | Joshua Boyles | 4 / 5 stars | 04-26-2024 | It would have been great to see some sort of career mode implemented where you can take control of real-world players, but for a revival from the dead, TopSpin 2K25 is pretty TopNotch. | Read review |
| God is a Geek | Chris White | 8 / 10 | 04-24-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is light on modes, but the gameplay is excellent, leading to tense and exciting matches against the world’s very best. | Read review |
| Guardian | Keith Stuart | 4 / 5 stars | 04-22-2024 | Whether you’re playing as a real-life pro or your own wacky avatar, this subtly calibrated title will have you perfecting your lobs and dropshots for hours | Read review |
| Hobby Consolas | Daniel Quesada | 75 / 100 | 04-22-2024 | The demanding environment of sports games hosts a title that will not mark an era, but that knows how to highlight its more technical personality. | Read review |
| IGN | Tristan Ogilvie | 7 / 10 | 04-26-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is the most enjoyable way to get a realistic rally going in your own home without building an actual court in your backyard. | Read review |
| IGN Spain | Marcos Catalán | 6 / 10 | 04-24-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 should have been much more and not just a minimal visual update of the fourth game that also, and as it could not be otherwise with current 2K, bases its approach on online play and earning coins to buy things we don’t need. | Read review |
| MondoXbox | Luca Di Lullo | 9 / 10 | 04-25-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 confirms itself as the long-awaited return of the greatest tennis series. The developers have significantly improved the game system with first-class gameplay and unrivaled realism, relegating the few negative notes to the sidelines. Unreservedly recommended to all tennis lovers. | Read review |
| NoobFeed | Azfar Rayan | 70 / 100 | 04-26-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 surely has the potential to serve as a solid basis for future releases that can build upon the gameplay mechanism that is satisfying to the player. Although the gameplay of TopSpin 2K25 has been painstakingly created to appeal to tennis enthusiasts, the game’s lack of content may disappoint quite a few players. Nonetheless, TopSpin 2K25 will satisfy the needs of those who have been yearning for a tennis simulation. | Read review |
| Pixel Arts | Amir Golkhani | 8.5 / 10 | 05-01-2024 | Top Spin has the potential to be much better than what it currently offers, and it seems the development team is aware of this issue. With Top Spin 2K25, they have once again created a safe and high-quality playground for this old and well-rooted franchise. A safe space that can become the place for the series to soar to new heights in the next installment. | Read review |
| Press Start | Shannon Grixti | 8 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is without doubt the best tennis game since the last Top Spin game. It succeeds at finding the all important balance of risk versus reward that the foundation of Tennis is built on, and whilst it’s not perfect, it provides a solid base for 2K to build on. | Read review |
| PSX Brasil | Paulo Roberto Montanaro | 75 / 100 | 04-23-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is the long-awaited return from one of the most acclaimed brands in the sport and brings with it some of the best qualities that made it so beloved years ago. Still, it seems ungreedy in terms of visuals and, especially, in the amount of content offered, making simplicity its great asset and, at the same time, its greatest limiter. | Read review |
| Pure Xbox | Fraser Gilbert | 8 / 10 | 04-23-2024 | Top Spin 4 was so good that it continued to thrive for 10 years past its sell-by date, and TopSpin 2K25 feels just as enjoyable to play in 2024. Sure, the character models don’t look great, and the game could do with a few tweaks and additions in certain areas, but the key thing is that developer Hangar 13 has nailed the gameplay. We’ve been waiting such a long time for a tennis title to really grab our attention like Top Spin 4 did back in the day, and we’re pleased to say that TopSpin 2K25 is comfortably the best tennis game we’ve played in over a decade. | Read review |
| Push Square | Aaron Bayne | 8 / 10 | 04-26-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is a confident revival firmly worth the 13-year wait. Admittedly, it might not be for everyone, especially with its rather steep learning curve, but for us, that’s what we love about the game. It inspired us to dig deep into the game’s core mechanics and train our way up the ladder. | Screen Rant | Rob Gordon | 3.5 / 5 stars | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 has the core elements of a good tennis game, and its actual moment-to-moment gameplay has sufficient improvements over anything else on the market to keep tennis fans happy, especially the complexity of options for players with every swing of the racket. Structurally, the game has a few hiccups, with a fluctuation when it comes to just how enjoyable certain parts of the career mode are combined with awkward pacing that seems deliberately structured with potential in-game transactions in mind, although there’s still plenty there to enjoy. | Read review |
| Shacknews | Nicholas Tan | 8 / 10 | 04-23-2024 | Despite a few mishits, TopSpin 2K25 is well worth the wait. Though this revival doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, it gets the fundamentals right. Mastering the new swing meter is challenging, but once you get the timing down, it’s easy to get into the zone and spend hours strategically striking balls on the court without realizing how many hours have passed. The extensive MyCareer mode, while restrictive in spots, rewards consistent play and smart choices over the long run. TopSpin 2K25 is a promising reboot that shows plenty of potential for future entries in the series and gratefully brings tennis simulations back into the conversation. | Read review |
| SpazioGames | Domenico Musicò | 8 / 10 | 04-23-2024 | Top Spin 2K25 represents the return of a legendary series after more than ten years of painful absence. | Stevivor | Steve Wright, Matthew Bird | 7.5 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | “Overall I’m enjoying it,” says Matt directly. “But with sport games and, in particular, tennis games already being a bit repetitive, Hangar 13 needs to speed up progress on career mode to make it more enjoyable. There seem to be things I don’t have access to yet that will make my player better, and I don’t want to play for countless hours before I start seeing that happen.” | Read review |
| The Beta Network | Anthony Culinas | 7 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | While my sentiments about this title may seem overly negative, the core gameplay of TopSpin 2K25 is nothing but addictive. Seeing those timing metres land in the ‘Perfect’ zone, as you smack a winner down the line after an intense rally really gets the blood pumping. It’s practically everything else around 2K25 that stops it from being amazing. Whether it be the bland MyCAREER mode, clay-looking graphics or completely missing matchday commentary, these aspects inherently diminish the overall package. | Read review |
| The Games Machine | Daniele Cucchiarelli | 8.4 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | With TopSpin 2K25 Hangar 13 did a good job there where it was needed, in recreating a realistic but not frustrating tennis experience, very technical but at the same time challenging and fun. The content is canonical and technically there is still some work to be done, but if you love “non-televised” tennis and believe that with the right training you could beat even Federer, it’s time to give it a try … at least on a virtual tennis court. | Read review |
| TheSixthAxis | Nick Petrasiti | 8 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is a great return to form and rewards those who stick with it while learning the ropes, becoming a true tennis god in the process. It’s not perfect, but if you have any passing interest in tennis, this is well worth your time. | Read review |
| Twinfinite | Tom Hopkins | 3.5 / 5 stars | 04-22-2024 | On the court, TopSpin 2K25 is brilliant. It’s realistic, satisfying, and feels great to play, especially as you get to grips with the timing needed for every shot type. It’s just a shame that such good tennis gameplay is housed in such bland modes that have you grind for very little sense of progression. | Read review |
| Use a Potion | Unknown | 9 / 10 | 05-03-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 offers an exhilarating tennis experience that’ll keep players on their toes with its authentic and strategic action. The core mechanics demand a blend of good timing, strategic planning, and clever positional play to add to the authenticity of the experience, with the game easily standing out as one of the more realistic tennis experiences I’ve seen in a video game. It’s wonderfully executed to make for a really fun experience, whilst the package is complemented by a decent selection of game modes that’ll keep both solo and multiplayer fans invested for a long, long time. | Read review |
| VGC | Chris Scullion | 4 / 5 stars | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is the best ‘serious’ tennis game we’ve played since, frankly, the last one was released 13 years ago. Its characters look a bit off, its career mode is dry and the typical 2K microtransaction nonsense is in there (to a less intrusive extent than usual), but when it comes to the gameplay on the court it’s far superior to anything else out there. | Read review |
| WayTooManyGames | Leonardo Faria | 8 / 10 | 04-26-2024 | Of course, there’s the everlasting conundrum regarding 2K’s monetization practices, but this game did not feel as grindy or egregious as its basketball counterparts. If you are not into online play, you won’t have a lot of options; you will most likely spending many hours grinding for experience points to upgrade your avatar. Thankfully, the gameplay is downright impeccable. | Read review |
| Wccftech | Alessio Palumbo | Recommended | 04-22-2024 | So far, I’m having a lot of fun with Top Spin 2K25, though there are some obvious shortcomings, like the lack of online doubles and custom matches, the very limited roster of pro players, and the too-long rallies. I’ll reserve final judgment after proper testing of the 2K and World Tour modes when they go live. | Read review |
| XboxEra | Jesse Norris | 5 / 10 | 04-22-2024 | TopSpin 2K25 is a massive disappointment. Feeling more like beta software, with a lack of modes, players, and fun. I cannot recommend this one at the egregious $70 price point. | Read review |
