The gaming universe is buzzing with anticipation as Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws finally gets a release window: late 2024. This revelation, initially tucked away in a Disney Parks blog post, has set the stage for what promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the Star Wars gaming legacy.
Announced at the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, Star Wars Outlaws will feature an open-world experience set between Star Wars: Episode 5 – The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi. The timing places players in a galaxy teeming with criminal underworld intrigue, a setting that developer Massive Entertainment claims will add a unique layer to the Star Wars narrative.
“Star Wars Outlaws, the open world Star Wars game, is set to release late this year,” the post said. “The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.”
The protagonist, Kay Vess, and her axolotl-like companion, Nix, have already captured the imaginations of fans. Positioned as an emerging scoundrel, Kay Vess embodies the spirit of adventure and rebellion, promising players a journey filled with risk and reward.
Massive Entertainment says that what sets Star Wars Outlaws apart from other open-world games is its “handcrafted” and “manageable” approach. Unlike sprawling worlds that can sometimes feel overwhelming, each planet in Outlaws is designed to be roughly the size of two or three regions in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This deliberate design choice aims to offer a more curated experience, according to Massive, ensuring that every corner of the galaxy feels meaningful and immersive.
Star Wars Outlaws is slated to release in late 2024.
