Critic Reviews for Voodoo Vince: Remastered
Reviews
Paul Acevedo (Windows Central)
4/5 stars
“Voodoo Vince Remastered does something important: It rescues a classic Xbox game that few people played (I had the system but still missed it) and brings it back for today’s gamers. The enhanced graphics look good for an indie game, although some of the textures don’t hold up, and the frame rate really chugs now and then.”
James Mitchell (Press Start)
5/10
“Voodoo Vince Remastered is a great remaster, but the game lying underneath this fresh coat of paint simply doesn’t hold up today. There’s some fantastic art direction, an interesting locale and an even more intriguing premise. While it might be fun for a younger audience, Voodoo Vince doesn’t capitalise on its intriguing premise enough to make itself genuinely essential. Voodoo Vince is an authentic remaster, retaining the feel and play of the original, for better or for worse. Unfortunately, some things are best left in the past.”
Gabriel Jones (Cubed3)
7/10
“Voodoo Vince Remastered is what some would call a “working man’s 3D platformer.” It isn’t ground-breaking or breath-taking, but it delivers on all of its promises. Each stage offers something new, but it never detracts from the core elements. The amazing soundtrack can’t be praised enough. Above all, this game has aged quite gracefully. Even somebody who has never played it before – such as this reviewer – will find it to be thoroughly impressive.”

CGMagazine | Chris Carter | 5.5 / 10 | 04-18-2017 | An original Xbox platformer that coasts by in some respects, but is mostly stuck in the past. | Read review |

Destructoid | Cory Arnold | 5 / 10 | 04-17-2017 | With lackluster plot, awful comedy, and shallow gameplay, I just don’t see where the following comes from. Voodoo Vince should be commended for trying to add variety and humor, but ultimately the execution is not there. Perhaps harsh on a game that is no worse than mediocre, I did experience brief nuggets of bliss, but they were rare. More often than not you’ll be frustrated, leading you to believe you’re the real victim when Vince sticks pins into himself. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Steven McGehee | 8.8 / 10 | 02-17-2017 | I’m not calling this the best action platformer of all time by any means, but for me at least it does the basics right and reaches beyond that with some creativity and gameplay that reminded me why I was interested in this game when it was originally released. | Read review |
GameMAG | Vadimeys | 3 / 10 | 05-09-2017 | It remains unclear why Beep Industries decided to make a broken remaster of useless game, which few people remember. If you think of new gamers, a wide range of much better products is available to them on the market. In 2017 release of Voodoo Vince: Remastered is perceived as a bad joke. But if you still feel an urge to try out the game, we recommend to test only PC version. | Read review |
Gamerheadquarters | Jason Stettner | 7.2 / 10 | 04-17-2017 | I liked Voodoo Vince, the character was entertaining and it was hilarious that injuring him often helped with progression. | Read review |
GameSpew | Richard Seagrave | 7 / 10 | 04-19-2017 | If you don’t mind the dated visuals and a few niggling camera issues, Voodoo Vince: Remastered is well worth a look if you haven’t sampled it before, simply for its unique theme and varied gameplay. | Read review |
Gaming Nexus | Chapel Collins | 8 / 10 | 05-10-2017 | While not terribly original, Voodoo Vince is so irreverent and fun to play that it’s worth looking into for anybody with an Xbox One. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Gary Bailey | 4 / 10 | 05-15-2017 | With Xbox coming under fire this year for its lack of exclusives, this lazy port of a boring platformer is not going to win anyone over. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | James Cunningham | 3.5 / 5 stars | 04-20-2017 | While Voodoo Vince Remastered isn’t a classic of the platforming genre, it’s still very good. | Read review |
Hey Poor Player | Isaac Coleman | 3.5 / 5 stars | 04-18-2017 | If you’re a die-hard fan of platformers, eager to play everything the genre has to offer, than you might find that the jazzy music and whimsical charm of Voodoo Vince Remastered is just what the (witch) doctor ordered. But for everyone else, you really should just play Yooka-Laylee. | Read review |
IGN | Leif Johnson | 7.2 / 10 | 04-18-2017 | Voodoo Vince’s action doesn’t deviate much from the standard conventions of early 21st-century platformers, but its jazzy music and bizarre New Orleans look render it a memorable experience. With modernized textures, resolution, aspect ratio, and frame rate, this remastered version updates Vince for a new generation, and hopefully ensures he won’t get buried like he was in his former incarnation as an Xbox exclusive. | Read review |
Marooners’ Rock | Mike Robles | 7.6 / 10 | 05-30-2017 | This overhaul of Voodoo Vince is a great piece for new or returning players. You can easily jump into this classic and feel right at home. With all the HD remakes coming out, this is a must-have. | Read review |

Rectify Gaming | Wh1plash96 | 8 / 10 | 04-18-2017 | Voodoo Vince: Remastered is another great addition to the Xbox One catalog. Its immersive world with its unique protagonist comes complete with great execution. | Read review |
SelectButton | Marcus Jones | 8 / 10 | 04-26-2017 | Voodoo Vince is a solid title and something parents and kids will enjoy. It has enough zaniness to keep your attention and, while I’m not a fan of collectibles myself, it doesn’t go out of its way to make those a difficult chore. Admittedly, most non-parent adult fans may not be thrilled at the prospect of playing through a game without guns or explosions, but it’s charming enough to get by on its own. The story is fun, Vince is a quirky little doll, and seeing a magical take on New Orleans makes for a very good time. | Read review |
TheXboxHub | Carlos Santuana | 3 / 5 stars | 05-03-2017 | Voodoo Vince Remastered isn’t likely to be on the radar for platformer of the year, and those who once adored the ancient doll may wish to remember him in a more nostalgic tone rather than jumping back in for a re-run. That said, if it’s just a simple 3D platformer you’re looking for, there is enough here to occupy you, even if it is for just a few hours. | Read review |
TrueAchievements | Kelly Packard | 4.5 / 5 stars | 04-19-2017 | If you were already a fan of Vince, Voodoo Vince: Remastered will be a worthy testament to his cult classic legacy. Not only that, but the game holds up well enough that Vince is on track to woo a new generation of fans. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 7.9 / 10 | 04-24-2017 | Voodoo Vince is nothing short of a 3D platforming gem and this Remastered version will hopefully get it the attention that it deserves. | Read review |
