“I guess, in the end, it’s not just that Breath of the Wild signals that Zelda has finally evolved and moved beyond the structure it’s leaned on for so long. It’s that the evolution in question has required Nintendo to finally treat its audience like intelligent people. That newfound respect has led to something big, and different, and exciting. But in an open world full of big changes, Breath of the Wild also almost always feels like a Zelda game — and establishes itself as the first current, vital-feeling Zelda in almost 20 years.”

I enjoyed a lot of what I played, actual dungeons were relatively fun and initial encounters with some shrines and areas were pretty enjoyable. IBTimes UK | Ben Skipper | 5 / 5 stars | 03-02-2017 | In reinvigorating the Zelda series, Nintendo has rediscovered what gave it life all those years ago, capturing a spirit of adventure that flows through Breath of the Wild like the breeze on Hyrule's fields. Impulsegamer | Andrew Bistak | 5 / 5 stars | 03-14-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best Zelda games to date and it’s also the perfect game for the Nintendo Switch due to its portability. It’s a very well-crafted game with some wonderful gaming mechanics and nothing feels contrived or limited but rather, it creates a very engaging open-world experience and one that feels real on so many levels. So if you’re looking for a reason to buy a Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost the only reason you need. As I’ve kept spoilers to a bare minimum, the only other advice I would give is that do not rush playing this game, explore every area because it will make the experience a much more powerful one. Sure, some gamers have finished this title in a handful of hours but like any good relationship, give it plenty of time! | Read review
JVL | Malcolm89 | 9 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | Zelda manages to change its core mechanics brilliantly with a well thought-out gameplay that undusts the saga while opening the door to newcomers. Its colorful universe and atypical characters are the foundation of a magical experience, and it bewitched us before we realised it. Wandering the land of Hyrule quickly becomes an obsession at any time of the day. It's just a pity that the title is handicaped by the technical shortcomings of the Switch and that the size of the Joy-Cons cause a few hiccups here and there. For those who'll choose to live the adventure in handheld mode, this episode is a must-have on the console and shows that sometimes, only one title is needed to redeem a whole lineup. | Read review

NZGamer | Keith Milburn | 9.5 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has forever changed the franchise – a feat accomplished by looking to the past. Paste Magazine | Garrett Martin | 9.7 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | The depth you expect, the open exploration and constant sense of discovery the series is known for, are here in perhaps greater effect than ever before, but with the systems and mechanics that drive the moment-to-moment action heavily overhauled. The result is a Zelda that feels unmistakably like a Zelda, but that also breathes new life into the venerable classic. It’s too early to fully weigh it against the historical record, but if forced to rank the entire coterie of Zelda games, Breath of the Wild would come in near the very top. | Read review

Press Start | Shannon Grixti | 10 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will go down as one of the best launch titles of all time. Yes, technically it's a Wii U game that was ported over to the Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo made the right decision in holding this game back. It perfectly compliments the Nintendo Switch and highlights why it has the potential to be such a great and versatile console. Many have doubted Nintendo's ability to bring this series into the modern age of gaming, but they've done that and taken it one step further in creating one of the best open-world action-adventure games ever made. | Read review

PS4Blog.net | Tracey | 10 / 10 | 03-06-2017 | After reading my The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild review you can better understand how this is a big departure from the regular formula of the franchise, and it makes this the best game in the series. There is so much to do and so many ways to do it that the sky is the limit. Different players will approach puzzles in a different way, and the game won’t say “no you can’t do it like that” to you. With so much freedom, a ton of shrines to explore, many siquests to complete and lots of secrets to discover, you can spend well over 100 hours playing the latest release from Nintendo on your brand new Nintendo Switch. This is a must-buy for all Nintendo Switch owners and a game that will be on many GOTY lists. | Read review

Ask me just how much I enjoyed playing it, though, and I would say it deserves the highest rating I could give it. In the end, that's all that truly matters. | Read review

Saudi Gamer | صالح بازرعة | 10 / 10 | 03-09-2017 | Just when you think you've seen all what this series can provide, along comes this entry and completely surprises you with what it has to offer. An epic journey in the most impressive open world environment yet. A fascinating journey filled with never ending moments of awe that will captivate you for hours on end. | Read review

SelectButton | Kevin Mitchell | 10 / 10 | 03-05-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is without a doubt one of the best games and freshest takes in the series, and should be played by every Nintendo Switch owner. Whether playing docked or in handheld mode, the game is reminiscent of gaming bliss. There are frame rate issues in both modes, but dock mode certainly has more technical problems. Breath of the Wild has surprised me at every turn, and after the lackadaisical Skyward Sword, I’m elated to see the series try something new and become one of the best games in recent memory. I am disappointed that the overall narrative is lacking and Link’s lost memory since quite cliché, but the gameplay makes up for any shortcomings. | Read review
Shacknews | Jason Faulkner | 9 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | By avoiding the pitfalls, other open-world adventures have made too often, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild makes itself an instant classic. | Read review

Slant Magazine | Jed Pressgrove | 3 / 5 stars | 03-12-2017 | From a standpoint of action, Breath of the Wild goes out of its way to step beyond every Legend of Zelda title before it. | Read review
SpazioGames | Matteo Bussani | 10 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild is the best example to describe the power of Nintendo and its people, that can transform the beautiful games of the past into current masterpieces. | Read review
Stevivor | Ben Salter | 10 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | Simply put, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best launch title I've ever played. It's captivated me more than any game with a system launch, and it's rocketed straight into number one on my all-time favourite Zelda games. You could play it on Wii U, where it's still a fantastic game — clearly the best on the console. But it's that little bit more special to have such an amazing, massive game on a handheld system. Wherever you play, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was worth the wait. | Read review
TechRaptor | James Galizio | 9.5 / 10 | 03-26-2017 | Breath of the Wild is a fantastic game, but chances are you already knew that. Nintendo's latest title manages to be a true adventure at the best of times, with only a few faults otherwise holding it back. This is a game that you don't want to miss. | Read review

The Digital Fix | Andrew Phillips | 10 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | Having played numerous RPGs over many years, it's tough to think of one that is as spellbinding and so moreish as this. A modern day marvel on the Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is simply stunning. | Read review
The Game Fanatics | Tyler Chancey | 10 / 10 | 03-29-2017 | Breath of the Wild is a bold and powerful testament to Nintendo’s work. A grand adventure that takes a lot of risks and haves them pay off. An utterly engrossing swan song for the Wii U and a promise for the future of the Nintendo Switch. A once in a lifetime experience that soars above any minor issues it has to take its place as a modern classic. | Read review
The Games Machine | Stefano Gaburri | 9.7 / 10 | 03-10-2017 | The Wii U version of the new Zelda offers the same, amazing, unforgettable experience as the Nintendo Switch version: the game runs pretty smoothly on the old console, and esthetically it's similar. If you're not planning to buy a new Switch, and want to remove the dust from the old Wii U, this is really a no brainer. | Read review
The Jimquisition | Jim Sterling | 7 / 10 | 03-12-2017 | Truly, I wish I could say I understood what all the critics were raving about in their onslaught of 10/10 reviews, but I don't. I see too many things getting in the way of the brilliance, too much repetitive busywork and full-on dick moves for me to say this is even close to my favorite Zelda game, much less in the top five. | Read review
The Outerhaven Productions | Todd Black | 4.8 / 5 stars | 03-10-2017 | Just when you think Legend of Zelda can't get any better, Breath of the Wild proves that this series has depth to spare. Beautifully rendered, wonderfully designed, and expertly crafted both in story and in gameplay, Breath of the Wild will have you playing for quite some time, and then some time after that. | Read review
TheSixthAxis | Stefan L | 9 / 10 | 03-02-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild dramatically updates this venerable and beloved series, bringing new ideas into the fold which, while seemingly taking inspiration from others, seamlessly adapts them to fit and never loses its own identity. It’s refreshingly new and familiar at the same time, making for both one of the greatest launch titles and the sweetest swan songs any console could wish for. | Read review
ThisGenGaming | Charlie Oakley | 8 / 10 | 03-13-2017 | Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is far from the perfect game, but it's still a very good game that is worth your money. If you're a fan of prior Zelda games however you might need to wary of Breath Of The Wild as it's changed and added a lot of features that some may feel move away from what made Zelda the franchise it is. Sometimes change is good, but I felt there was too many unnecessary changes in the game which made the game not feel like a Zelda game. | Read review
TrueGaming | عمر العمودي | 10 / 10 | 03-10-2017 | Breath of the Wild brings an enormous amount of fun and joy in all of its elements, it will be remembered for many years to come much like Ocarina of Time before it. | Read review
Twinfinite | Hayes Madsen | 5 / 5 stars | 03-10-2017 | Breath of the Wild doesn’t feel like an experiment for the Zelda series, it feels like the realization of what Zelda always wanted to be. It easily stands toe-to-toe with the best open world games of the generation, and is a marvelous way to introduce a brand new system. Whether you’re a Zelda fan or not, this is certainly an experience you should not miss out on. | Read review
USgamer | Mike Williams | 5 / 5 stars | 03-02-2017 | The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild draws from many sources of inspiration, including older Zelda games and titles like Skyrim and The Witcher 3, to create something wholly unique. Nintendo has crafted a wide, beautiful world to explore, underpinned with some interesting emergent mechanics. Breath of the Wild stands as one of the best in the series and a great opener for Nintendo's newest console. | Read review

If you own a Switch console, you can not miss Link's epic last journey. | Read review
