Rogue Legacy 2 honors its own legacy as the premiere roguelite thanks to its outstanding assortment of classes, diverse areas, and rewarding combat, putting it shoulder to shoulder among the very best of the genre.
Rogue Legacy 2’s extremely random nature would crush a lesser game, but Cellar Door Games uses that pressure to create diamonds. Even if it’s occasionally frustrating, Rogue Legacy 2 refuses to ever let me be bored, and that’s more than enough to set it apart from the heap of roguelites that have followed in the original game’s wake. I’m 30 hours into Rogue Legacy 2, and I’m still discovering new toys to play with. But I still haven’t found another spoon.
A hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won’t cause massive damage.

Ars Technica | Aaron Zimmerman | Recommended | 05-06-2022 | There is a story, told mostly through notes left strewn around the environments, but I’d be lying if I said I paid any attention to it. The draw here is the gameplay loop, and if what I’ve described above sounds tedious to you, the game is absolutely not for you. Rogue Legacy 2 is a game about repeated failure, and only slow, incremental progress will lead to your success. | Read review |
AusGamers | Kosta Andreadis | 8 / 10 | 05-16-2022 | The flip-side to this is a positive, in that Rogue Legacy’s intricate progression and many, many secrets to discover is enough to warrant on and off play for weeks and months. If you’re after a pure rogue-lite experience and something that has the combat depth and platforming challenge to keep you hooked on its loop for an extended period, then Rogue Legacy 2 is a resounding success. Visually, it’s a huge leap forward over the original too | Read review |
Chalgyr’s Game Room | Nick Herber | 8.8 / 10 | 05-06-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a delightful mix of action-platforming with enough progression elements baked in to keep the many deaths from getting too frustrating. Unlocking new areas of my tower or discovering new traits was enjoyable, as was trying out new class / weapon / ability combinations with each new generation. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Elliot Attard | 8.5 / 10 | 04-29-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 learns from its lineage and presents a superb sequel with a huge amount of depth of content. With so much replayability and meaningful progression, the game will have players hooked on its delightful gameplay loop for hours upon hours. Built with both style and substance, Rogue Legacy 2 is a tremendous success for fans of the original and the genre. It may not be a game for everyone, but for those willing to take up the challenge, a truly splendid journey awaits. | Read review |
COGconnected | Mark Steighner | 90 / 100 | 05-11-2022 | Rogue Legacy essentially spawned the roguelite genre and nine years later, its sequel improves the recipe in every way. Rogue Legacy 2 looks fantastic and plays even better, with engaging mechanics and an addictive gameplay loop. While you might not always make progress, you also never feel bored or that the game disrespects your time. Every run is a new experience and often surprising. There are a lot of systems at play, but they generally help Rogue Legacy 2 transcend the limits of the genre and make it endlessly replayable and entertaining. | Read review |
DarkZero | Jorge S Fernandez | 8 / 10 | 06-03-2022 | In conclusion, while Rogue Legacy 2 is more of a refinement than a revolution, it nonetheless stands out as another must-have Roguelike, which is impressive given the ever-increasing supply of quality titles in the genre. Even if the plate is currently full, this is another tasty dish that is worth savoring when the craving comes calling again. | Read review |

Eurogamer | Caelyn Ellis | Recommended | 04-28-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 really is a lovely game and I’m glad Cellar Door have included options to make it more approachable. It stands as a terrific example of how to let players tailor their experience to their liking, whether that means a helping hand or dialling up the challenge. | Read review |
Game Informer | John Carson | 9 / 10 | 05-11-2022 | Despite my nitpicks, every new discovery unveiled, skills obtained, and boss defeated wipes away any grief and replaces it with deep satisfaction. There’s a lot to clean up with the core progression systems to make the ramp from beginning to end escalate more evenly, but I’ve enjoyed most of my hours struggling through countless generations of my goofy little bloodline. I am overjoyed the entertaining heritage of this series remains firmly intact. | Read review |
GameGrin | Alana Dunitz | 10 / 10 | 04-28-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 has taken everything you loved from the first title and improved on everything, this is an incredibly addictive roguelike with customisation options to make it accessible for everyone no matter your skill level! | Read review |
Gamer Escape | Grant Dotter | 10 / 10 | 05-03-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a wonderful, beautiful, crazy-hard-and-yet-not-at-the-same-time game. I can hardly stop playing it long enough to finish writing this review. It is hard to find flaws in this game without resorting to extreme nit-picking. Every aspect of it just oozes polish. The replayability is off the charts, even after you finally reach the ending. | Read review |
Gamersky | 心灵奇兵 | 8.8 / 10 | 04-28-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 has a solid gameplay that keeps players motivated to try and explore again and again. And it seems there’ s a Castlevania in it, only it’ s random. | Read review |
GameSkinny | Nathan Gibson | 9 / 10 | 05-12-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a worthy sequel that improves upon almost every aspect of the original, adding a wide array of new classes, abilities, and content. | Read review |
GameSpew | Kim Snaith | 8 / 10 | 04-28-2022 | It’s impossible to be disappointed with Rogue Legacy 2. As a sequel, it does everything it should: keep the spirit of the original in tact, while bolstering the experience with new content. Bigger and more interesting areas to explore mean you’ll be battling your way through Rogue Legacy 2 for much longer, and the new suite of character classes makes it more interesting than ever. Add to the mix new challenges, more complex traversal mechanics and more ways than ever to upgrade your character, and you’ve got a winning formula. | Read review |

Hey Poor Player | Andrew Thornton | 4.5 / 5 stars | 05-25-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 offers so many options when it comes to classes, upgrades, and ways to play it that anyone remotely open to the roguelite genre should check it out. I might have asked for a bit more direction in how to approach certain upgrade paths since the volume of choices can be borderline overwhelming, but it’s a minor quibble when everything else about the game is so fantastic. Rogue Legacy 2’s memorable world and overflowing personality will keep you invested until the very end. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | Álvaro Alonso | 90 / 100 | 04-28-2022 | Cellar Door Games surprise us with a sequel that not only surpasses the original in everything, but also automatically becomes one of the best roguelite ever made. You won’t be able to stop playing. | Read review |

NoobFeed | Linden Garcia | 90 / 100 | 05-07-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is built to be played for hours at a time or for ten minutes; it’s welcoming to Rouge-like newbies and PC veterans; It’s uncomplicated yet with a suitable amount of depth. Cellar Door Games have undoubtedly outdone themselves again, setting a new bar for the Rogue-lite gameplay style they helped kickstart. | Read review |

Saving Content | Ed Acosta | 5 / 5 stars | 05-09-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 has entangled me in its grind. It has cracked that code in me where others often get it wrong. Thanks to the randomness of the heroes, the ability to carry over progression, and the fun combat, I have that urge to keep playing. Rogue Legacy 2 will easily sit in my top games of this year and possibly be one of the most fun times I’ve had this year. | Read review |
Shacknews | TJ Denzer | 9 / 10 | 04-28-2022 | The original Rogue Legacy was an incredible step forward for rogue-lite games. It helped to establish a lot of cool elements that games after it would mimic in many ways. I wouldn’t say Rogue Legacy 2 reinvents the wheel here. Instead, it polishes that wheel to a sheen, gives it fresh treads, some fancy spinners, and makes it an all-around better version of the wheel we knew and loved. If you loved the first Rogue Legacy, then Rogue Legacy 2 is very likely to capture your heart as well. If you’re jumping into this series for the first time at Rogue Legacy 2, you’re in for one of the most fleshed out, fun, and varied rogue-lite action-platformers that the genre has to offer. | Read review |

TheSixthAxis | Jason Coles | 8 / 10 | 04-28-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a sequel with great genes. The sense of progression constantly pulls your forward, all of the new mechanics and unlocks add a lot more depth and longevity to the game, and the combat and platforming feel just as solid as they did in the first game. It’s an excellent roguelite that offers a lot of stuff to do as long as you’re willing to put in the time. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 9.2 / 10 | 05-09-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is simply one of the best indie games ever. It manages to stay true to the original while forging its own identity in ways that make it stand out as unique and ultimately superior. You’d be a complete goof if you don’t enjoy every second of it. | Read review |
WayTooManyGames | Oliver Shellding | 10 / 10 | 05-23-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a masterwork in taking something already great and elevating it without getting lost in ambition and abandoning the core interest. It’s Mega Man 2. It’s LeChuck’s Revenge. It’s freaking Super Smash Bros. Melee. This is the way all sequels should be, and I’m ecstatic to finish my review so I can go back and play it again. | Read review |
ZTGD | Drew Leachman | 9.5 / 10 | 06-01-2022 | Rogue Legacy 2 is a fantastic game. It takes everything I loved about the first game, refines it, adds way more content, and keeps the gameplay just as tight and smooth. It’s a rogue-like that even non-fans of rogue-likes can warm up to. If you played the first game, this is a no-brainer. Even if you haven’t, you’ll have a great time here with a game jam-packed with content. I cannot suggest this one enough. | Read review |
Game Info
Rogue Legacy is back! But now it’s got a 2 on the end of it! Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogical rogue-lite. That means it has all the trappings of a typical rogue-like (randomized runs, changing characters, and more), but with persistent upgrades, and persistent dead heirs. In this game, your legacy defines you. Spend your parents’ inheritance and grow the family manor to give your children a better fighting chance. Each child is unique, with their own traits and abilities. Your daughter could be a Ranger. She could also be vegan. It’s a new experience every time. Rogue Legacy 2 also lets you play how you want to. Go hard and fast, and dive deeper into the depths of a randomly-generated world. Or take it slow and steady and build your character up until you’re ready for greater challenges.
