Lies of P’s contributions to the genre are slow burns. There’s just enough intrigue at the beginning to lure you into the world, and thankfully, it pays off. The game surprised and engulfed me with its grim tale, in which greed and obsession for power turned a city against itself. Despite a clear obligation to pay homage to its pioneers, it carves its own reality — one in which you decide which illusions to believe in.
Lies of P might not rewrite the book, but it does an excellent job of making its own additions to a well-worn script.
So, if you’re the type of person who thinks that “fun” is the only relevant criteria for what makes a good game, then have at it. I sincerely think you’ll find a lot to like, and that’s rad. However, if you’re someone who yearns to see growth and advancement within the medium, then this is going to just befuddle you. I think Neowiz shows off a great deal of talent with Lies of P. I just hope what they come up with next is something actually original.

Areajugones | Ronald Goncalves | 10 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Being the best soulslike ever created, Lies of P is an absolute masterpiece that excels in the totality of what is proposed. With a captivating and intelligent reinterpretation of the fable of Pinocchio, with magnificent and demanding combats where the design of the bosses and levels are splendid, with a sublime and oppressive atmosphere that falls in love with each step and with a monumental soundtrack that exponizes every sensation, no video game had ever captured the essence of FromSoftware with such feat and personality, thus becoming one of the best titles of 2023. | Read review |
Atomix | Alberto Desfassiaux | 85 / 100 | 09-19-2023 | At first glance, Lies of P might appears to be another soulslike and another Bloodborne clone without personality, but when you being playing, you can see how great experience it is. A lot of new ideas and a very great wat to execute the FromSoftware formula. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Christian Bognar | 4.5 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Out of all the games that have attempted to master a Soulslike, Lies of P stands in a league of its own and should be experienced by anyone who is a fan of the subgenre. | Read review |
BaziCenter | امید صدیق ایمانی | 9 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | Lies of P sets foot in a realm that many studios ventured into and failed, and even though it’s still not at the level of the works by the great Miyazaki, it is one the best Soulslike games ever made. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Kate Sanchez | 8.5 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | While some elements of the puppet aesthetics aren’t necessarily original, and those who have played Bloodborne will see similarities, Lies of P is a gorgeously grim experience that offers difficulty and magic through immersive and dynamic gameplay with enough content baked in to make replayability a must. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Nick Erlenhof | 8.8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P not only has an excellent atmosphere, great visuals and the coolest Pinocchio ever, but also enough peculiarities in terms of gameplay. It skillfully sets itself apart from its roots and is probably the best Souls-like game that doesn’t come directly from From Software. Only the focus on blocking and some other mechanics really hold the game back. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Jordan Biordi | 9 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P exceeds its SoulsBorne inspirations and is easily one of the best games of the year. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Charlie Kelly | 9 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | More than just a meme game with a meme name, Lies of P is a thrilling Souls-like that delivers on its promises. On offer is a charming and over-the-top dark Pinocchio story, made all the more impactful by its blunt environmental storytelling. Genre fans also get to have their cake and eat it too, having functions from a lot of the titles in the crowd that work together in tandem to create a thrilling and delightfully challenging combat experience with memorable and grandiose environments and boss design. There are small mechanical additions such as breaking foes’ weapons and a morality system explored through lying or telling the truth that are both valuable in distinguishing itself just that little bit more. Topping it all off is a thorough journey with meaningful upgrades and a changing of world states to have you coming back for more. I cannot believe this silly little game actually pulls it all off, providing one of the better action games we’ve had this year. Lies of P isn’t just a wannabe. It’s a real game standing with giants. | Read review |
Chicas Gamers | Raúl Pinto | Recommended | 09-18-2023 | Lies of P is an A-RPG that takes us to the city of Krat with the help of P, a puppet superior to any other, who has to face all kinds of dangers in order to discover what petronecrosis is and why the frenzy of the machines has happened. An entertaining and challenging title with a very well-developed weapon system, although with a rough gameplay at the beginnig. Visually it is a beautiful game with an atmosphere that will not leave you indifferent and a few beautiful musical pieces. | Read review |
COGconnected | Mark Steighner | 90 / 100 | 09-13-2023 | Calling Lies of P derivative is both obvious and misses the point. It’s is a love letter to FromSoftware, but one that quite often matches or even exceeds its inspiration. Lies of P doesn’t quite attain the elegance of Dark Souls, Elden Ring, or Bloodborne’s best level designs, but its art, graphics, and combat are possibly the best of any Soulslike not developed by Miyazaki and company. Lies of P is addictive, challenging, and rewarding, and a must-play for fans of action RPGs. | Read review |
Cultured Vultures | Mike Worby | 6 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Though this Souls-like wears its heart on its sleeve in its love for the genre, Lies of P misses the mark on what makes these kinds of games tick. All the same, hardcore denizens seeking a challenge may find something to appreciate here. | Read review |

Dexerto | Sam Smith | 4 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P isn’t going to be for everyone. Some Elden Ring players may struggle going back to such a curated environment after the freedom offered by the Lands Between, while others may love this classic Soulslike approach, or even prefer it. The game isn’t just for hardcore Souls fans either — in fact, it’s a great entry-level game — ideal for those who don’t want to go back and play older titles, but still really want to give the genre a try. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Steven McGehee | 9.1 / 10 | 05-12-2021 | For Neowiz’s first big AAA-caliber game, they have done a bang-up job with Lies of P. The story, characters, combat and RPG systems, controls, enemy design, level design — there’s a lot here that is done with excellence and the summation of these is a great game that I’d happily recommend to anyone that enjoys the tough-but-rewarding Soulslike genre. | Read review |
Digital Trends | George Yang | 3.5 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P makes it clear that developer Neowiz has a deep appreciation and understanding for FromSoftware;s games that goes beyond a surface-level copy. | Read review |
Digitally Downloaded | Matt Sainsbury | 3.5 / 5 stars | 09-15-2023 | Lies Of P is a decent Soulslike, but it does squander the main opportunity that it had to differentiate itself. The “dark Pinocchio” theme is intriguing and the developers went about it with the right spirit, but struggled to convert it into something as thought-provoking and deep as it should have been. Take that out of the equation and you’ve got a Soulslike that’s a little heavy-handed in how it makes players engage with it, in a world that looks more inspired in screenshots than it is to actually journey through. Ultimately, as enjoyable as it is, Lies Of P stands testament to just how difficult FromSoftware’s formula really is. | Read review |

Expansive | Brad Baker | 8 / 10 | 09-18-2023 | Lies of P is a fantastic Soulslike in its own right. It ventures to do things a bit differently with some of its choice mechanics and presents a surprisingly compelling story which really helps bring everything together. But it’s the combat, flow and performance that really seal this one as a solid entry in a popular, but often overcrowded genre. While not perfect and certainly a challenge that will not be for everyone, Lies of P is one of the best non-From Soulslikes you can pick up and play right now. And probably the closest you’ll get to playing Bloodborne on a format that’s not PlayStation. | Read review |
Fextralife | Fexelea | 8.6 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a phenomenal reimagining of a classic tale that manages to engage the audience with its unique setting, while keeping them on the edge of their seat with its innovative twists to solid Souls-like combat. With minor shortcomings and perhaps an over-reliance on its inspiration, it is regardless an IP Souls fans won’t want to miss out on, and is arguably one of the best Souls-likes titles to date. | Read review |
Game Informer | Wesley LeBlanc | 9.5 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P’s greatest strength is how it rewards and empowers you at every turn to venture further through this twisted tale of puppetry and monstrous humanity, despite its oppressive world and formidable enemies. I struggled to pull myself away from Lies of P, even when it had me fuming. It delicately balances the fun of a Soulslike with the challenge the genre demands and only falters a few times. That it maintains that balance within the confines of a fairytale most know best because of Disney, flipping it on its head to tell something more in line with Carlo Collodi’s original The Adventures of Pinocchio, is another achievement of Lies of P. But above all that, Lies of P uses the familiar, the highlights, and the lessons learned from the authors of the Soulslike subgenre to create something unique, fascinating, and exhilarating. Neowiz aimed for the stars, much like the ones its Pinocchio wishes upon, and hits them with machine-like accuracy. | Read review |
Game Rant | Dalton Cooper | 4 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Co-op support like in other Soulslike games would have put Lies of P over the top, but even without it, the game will still greatly appeal to Soulslike fans. It has a lot going for it, and from a technical standpoint, it’s basically perfect. It runs smooth as butter, looks fantastic, and has no glitches that we discovered. And while the writing can be clunky at times, the ending is legitimately wild and worth suffering through the worst bosses to reach. It’s true that Lies of P gives in to some of the worst Soulslike instincts at times, but it can be extremely fun when the combat clicks. Just expect a significant time investment and a lot of frustration before that happens. | Read review |
GameCrate | Matt Berry | 9 / 10 | 09-28-2023 | There are a few things that I think could be improved in Lies of P, like the dodge issues I mentioned earlier as well as the parry window timing and difficulty spikes, but overall this is just an excellent game. It brings so many brilliant elements together and creates its own identity with them. | Read review |
Gamefa | Mostafa Zahedi | 9 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is one of the best Soulslike games in recent years. from story and atmosphere to combat and enemy variety, Lies of P delivers an amazing hardcore experience. it’s a great example that taking inspiration doesn’t stop developers from using creativity to its fullest potential. if you’re a fan of souls-like games, you’ll have a blast playing Lies of P from start to finish. | Read review |

GameMAG | Unknown | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P suffers from a slow start with boring levels and uninspired enemies. Gamersky | Unknown | 8 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | In the Souls-like genre, Lies of P definitely stands out. It skilfully captures the unique essence of the Dark Souls series and expands on it with features such as the weapon modification system. However, the level design and boss fights play it fairly simple, and the lies that should have been a core element don’t shine as brightly as expected. | Read review |
GAMES.CH | Joel Kogler | 87 / 100 | 09-17-2023 | Lies of P blends a dark and gritty reimagining of the classic Pinocchio tale with FromSoftware inspired Action-RPG gameplay. While it stumbles in some smaller ways, the result is one of the most polished and consistently enjoyable dye Souls-Likes I have played. The combat with its many special maneuvers and nuances can be overwhelming to newcomers, but the atmosphere, the variety in building weapons and the unique take on a familiar story more than make up for the shortcomings. | Read review |
GameSpot | Richard Wakeling | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | For the most part, however, Lies of P is content to adorn existing mechanics and ideas with its own story and aesthetic. This may be a derivative approach, but it nails the core Souls-like experience, with each of its various mechanics seamlessly coalescing to create a thrilling action game that’s challenging, varied, and dripping with atmosphere. It’s easy to be reductive when a game wears its influences on its sleeve as boldly as Lies of P does, but plenty of other games have tried and failed to recreate the same magic. It’s not an easy endeavor, and while it doesn’t shake up the formula or reinvent the wheel, Lies of P is still one of the genre’s most accomplished and enjoyable entries–and that’s the truth. | Read review |

GamingBolt | Shunal Doke | 9 / 10 | 09-17-2023 | Lies of P succeeds in almost everything it sets out to do. Not only do we get a wonderful new setting in the form of Krat to explore and dissect, but we also get some great gameplay to go along with it. While the story sets up some interesting things, it takes too long to get it rolling. The game ultimately relies too heavily on the gameplay to keep you intrigued. Not that we’re complaining. | Read review |
GamingTrend | Richard Allen | 95 / 100 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a gorgeous, bloody, unforgiving game which builds off the well-tread souls template to create a wholly original adventure that never ceases being a joy to explore and experience. With top tier combat, fantastic enemy and boss designs, and intricate and often interweaving areas to explore, the game remains fresh despite the 30+ hours required for a first playthrough. I may be a sucker for these types of games, but Lies of P hit absolutely every note needed to draw me into its often grotesque yet surprisingly emotional world. Lies of P may be based on a well-known and over told fairy tale, but watching it unfold in a mature setting with a likable cast of characters and dire stakes made the story that much more enthralling. | Read review |
Generación Xbox | David Fernandez | 8.5 / 10 | 10-08-2023 | When it comes to soulslike, it seems that the criticism is a little harsher than usual. Hardcore users often criticize all inspirations for not being difficult enough or being copies enough to be considered good games. Lies of P is a strange game, we can not qualify it as a copy as it is, it has its own ideas and has given something to talk about on its own merits, which already indicates that we have a great game in hand. | Read review |
Gert Lush Gaming | Jim Smale | 9 / 10 | 09-18-2023 | Lies of P offers a creepy yet inviting sense of adventure with familiar controls, especially for those who have played any Dark Soul games but accessible enough that newcomers can get in on the fun. The game is a big achievement for the genre with its cast of characters, world-building, and memorable set pieces. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Mick Fraser | 10 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a staggering achievement for Neowiz, and one of the very best “non-FromSoft” Soulslikes I’ve ever played. | Read review |
GRYOnline.pl | Hubert Śledziewski | 8.5 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | Lies of P is the best soulslike that does not have the FromSoftware logo on it. Dark atmosphere, cool storyline, dynamic combat system, pleasant exploration, some challenging bosses – it’s more than enough to provide fun. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Kyle LeClair | 4 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a worthy entry into the soulslike genre of gaming, particularly when the game allows its own unique elements to truly shine, such as its unique spread of weaponry and combat mechanics or its impressive story twists that can have you rediscovering what it means to be human. | Read review |
Hey Poor Player | Kenny McKee | 4 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P plays it a little too by the book in terms of gameplay and area design but is ultimately a very solid soulslike, not entirely bereft of uniqueness, granted you know where to look. While I would have liked certain mechanics, primarily those surrounding lying, to have been leaned into a little more, I can’t deny that Neowiz Games did an excellent job overall. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | Álvaro Alonso | 85 / 100 | 09-13-2023 | Even though at times feels too derivative, we had a blast playing Lies of P. It’s so well done and all the changes are so good (although minor), that we would be lying if we didn’t recommend it. | Read review |
IGN | Travis Northup | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P might not branch out particularly far from its soulslike inspiration, but it plays the part extremely well. | Read review |
IGN Italy | Alessandro Digioia | 8.4 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is one of the biggest surprises of 2023. Moody, gothic, bloody, and fast-paced, Neowiz first action RPG is a little gem, and even if it’s not on par with FromSoftware best works, it’s still one of the best soulslike games of the last few years. “Pinocchio meets Bloodborne” is a concept about as weird as it’s compelling, and luckily Neowiz delivered with an interesting story, smooth combat and terrific musics. It’s a little unpolished around the edges, and it lacks optional bosses and secret areas, but it’s still a strong starting point for a new series. | Read review |
IGN Spain | Mario Seijas | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a gift for soulslike lovers. Outstanding visuals, an intricate and interesting story and a reactive and frenetic combat. If you like the genre, this game won’t disappoint. Dive in, it’s worth it. | Read review |
Impulsegamer | S. Masoud Kazemi | 4.3 / 5 stars | 10-01-2023 | Lies of P is the best Soulsborne game that wasn’t made by FromSoftware. The gameplay and design of the game are great and have a little signature of their own but the density of inspiration is a bit too much. The steampunk design of the game truly fits with its story and the music helps to convey the mood but I wish the story had more depth. | Read review |
INDIANTVCZ | Jan Kalný | 8 / 10 | 09-23-2023 | Lies of P is an excellent attempt by Neowiz to break into the problematic segment of souls-like games. And they handled almost everything with aplomb. Although, on the one hand, the game sometimes blatantly copies familiar elements, especially from FromSoftware games; maybe because of that, you won’t realize you’re not playing a game made by them. That’s how good Lies of P is. It’s a shame that it’s brought down by some fundamental problems, though. Some of the biggest ones can be counted among the strange emphasis on unintuitive boss attacks, significantly underused lying mechanics, and the uninteresting nature of some of the locations. Fortunately, this is offset by the fantastic gameplay and overall atmosphere. Thus, Souls fans should not overlook this game. | Read review |
LevelUp | Dan Villalobos | 8 / 10 | 09-27-2023 | Lies of P is a game that didn’t make as much noise as other major releases. However, it’s a worthy representative of soulslike titles, offering a challenging adventure with bosses that will make you suffer, and many elements that do justice to the genre. If that’s not enough, it looks great, and its narrative hooks you from the beginning. | Read review |

PCGamesN | Lauren Bergin | 7 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | While at first glance Lies of P might seem like ‘Bloodborne at home,’ Round8 Studio’s clockwork adventure writes its own unique story, filled to bursting with expansive Steampunk environments and defined by its well-balanced combat. In some cases, though, it gets a little too clever for its own good, tying itself up in opaque systems. | Read review |
PlayStation LifeStyle | Michael Leri | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is wearing Bloodborne’s cloak, but it has its own heart, one encased in metal and powered by ingenuity. It sometimes transfixes on tropes of the genre to its detriment, yet still overcomes by the sheer quality of its boss fights, combat mechanics, and world design. Lies of P’s steel heart may not be born of blood and flesh, but it still pumps heartily enough to be a worthy substitute for the real deal. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | David Carcasole | 8 / 10 | 09-19-2023 | Lies Of P is one of the best Soulslike games to enter the genre, and on multiple occasions builds on the games that inspired it, adding refinements that result in a better gameplay experience. However it emulates its influences a little too closely, and fails to hit the same highs as the games that it has clearly used as a skeleton, inviting comparisons that aren’t always flattering. Along with an incredibly disruptive difficulty spike, Lies Of P stands as a game that is very nearly great, and will scratch the right itch for fans of the genre to stick with it. | Read review |

Press Start | James Mitchell | 8 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | Lies of P takes a bit to get going but once it does it’s an absolute joy to play. While as challenging as you’d expect from a game channeling Bloodborne, its minor improvements help make the experience ever so slightly more accessible. More importantly, it manages to carve out its own niche and is one of the strongest adaptations of the formula that make games like Bloodborne so revered. And while some aspects of it’s source material don’t translate as well as you’d hope to a video game, Lies of P is a solid action game that’s well worth your time. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | Marco Aurélio Couto | 85 / 100 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P combines elements of Soulsborne games, adds some ideas of its own and puts it all into a beautifully set version of a dark world, inspired by one of the best-known stories in classic literature. Some of its combat mechanics may take a little longer to get used to, but that doesn’t take away from Lies of P’s merits in being one of the best Soulslikes released recently. | Read review |
Push Square | Liam Croft | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P feels like the result of a developer having already taken multiple stabs at the Souls-like genre, so it’s impressive that Round8 Studio has accomplished so much on its first attempt. By fully embracing its dark take on the Pinocchio story, it sets itself apart from anything else available. Elevating it above other games are quality combat and extensive, satisfying customisation, turning Lies of P into a first-class experience for FromSoftware fanatics. | Read review |

Seek the secrets and discover what is there to be, of off the brilliant world, created by the somehow not impactful Lies of a naive boy named P! | Read review |
Shacknews | TJ Denzer | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P was an interesting adventure. I really liked the blend of the classic tales of Pinocchio twisted into this strange and interesting world of puppets, rebellion, classism, and secrets. Being able to mix and match weapons and Legion Arms were delightful twists on my expectations of soulsborne combat mechanics. It’s a shame the smaller enemies don’t have more personality, and I also wish Pinocchio had more character to make playing him more enjoyable. That said, Lies of P is more than just a wooden facsimile of a soulsborne game. It gets the foundational stuff right and tweaks it just enough in combat and exploration to make things more interesting. For that much, it’s a tale worth exploring all the way to the end, wherever your lies may take you. | Read review |
Sirus Gaming | Dave Acuna | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | I genuinely had a fun time through the ups and downs of my experience, and I could say that Lies of P has the potential of becoming one of the names that would immediately be brought up when talking about soulslikes. | Read review |

Slant Magazine | Mitchell Demorest | 3.5 / 5 stars | 09-28-2023 | On the other hand, Lies of P’s refusal to dish out any significant discomfort lowers the stakes considerably, so that you’re never pushed to engage with the game’s mechanical limits. As a result, everything from its level layouts to its boss fights to its jump scares don’t get seared into your brain out of repetition or necessity. It’s why, unlike Dark Souls, Lies of P is so easy to stick with. But it’s also why, unlike Dark Souls, you might forget it in a year. | Read review |
SpazioGames | Domenico Musicò | 8.3 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P could look like a mere clone of Bloodborne, but its combat system and how Pinocchio’s influences intertwine with the story are crucial elements to make the game shine on its own. | Read review |
TechRaptor | Joseph Allen | 7 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P has excellent combat and a raft of well-designed boss fights, but bad storytelling permeates a sense that you’ve seen all of this before. | Read review |

The Game Crater | Chris Melnyk | 9 / 10 | 09-16-2023 | Lies of P doesn’t merely serve as an outstanding RPG; it stands as a must-play for both newcomers and seasoned veterans alike. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Marco Bortoluzzi | 9 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P makes absolutely no secret of being inspired by From Software’s games, but the end result is a videogame that feels great to play, offers many memorable boss fights, and provides interesting gameplay options in the form of being able to assemble your own weapon. Definitely a convincing effort from the Bless Unleashed developers, and a soulslike that fans of the genre should not skip. | Read review |
The Jimquisition | James Stephanie Sterling | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | I love Lies of P until I don’t, but those less adoring moments are always followed by something that ropes me right back in. A slickly directed, beautifully presented game that takes the absurd concept of marrying Bloodborne to Pinocchio and commits so earnestly that it transcends the silly and just plain works. Difficulty spikes and dodgy pacing undermine it at key points, and some systems aren’t as useful as they should be, but none of that takes away from the high quality and the amount of imagination poured into what could’ve been just another Soulslike. | Read review |
The Outerhaven Productions | Keith Mitchell | 4.5 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P started off as being a game that wasn’t even on my radar until a few months ago, and ever since I played the demo, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s easily one of the best Soulslike games I’ve played that didn’t come from FROMSOFTWARE, and that’s saying something. From the visuals, the sound direction, the gameplay, and just about everything else, Lies of P is a fantastic Soulslike, with few flaws. That aside, I do wish that the parry system had a longer window and that the bosses were as punishing as they are. But that aside, this is a must-play. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Reuben Mount | 9 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Smooth combat, seamless exploration and a set of well-executed mechanics makes Lies of P an excellent Soulslike. When you add in the gorgeous visuals, desolate world design, stark sound design and engrossing story, it raises the experience above a lot of its contemporaries. All in all, although Lies of P is essentially Bloodborne featuring Timothée Chalamet, it does more than enough to mark itself out as a unique title worth your time – and I’m not lying. | Read review |
TheXboxHub | Paul Renshaw | 4.5 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is an extremely enjoyable game to play through. The feel of the world, the setting, and the combat all seem to have real impact; frankly, these elements are great. The camera and jumping are not quite so good, but in all, Lies of P is an absolute pleasure to take in. | Read review |
Unboxholics | Στράτος Χατζηνικολάου | Recommended | 10-04-2023 | Lies of P is without a doubt a release that shouldn’t go unnoticed by fans of Soulslike games. It’s one of the best games of the genre and is definitely worth your attention if you love FromSoftware’s games, such as Bloodborne for example. The game has a solid gameplay that is quite addictive and offers new ideas, such as the mechanical hand of “P” that offers different tools. Give it a chance and it will surely take you to a strange, dark and yet beautiful world. And remember, the lies are over! | Read review |
VG247 | Sherif Saed | Not Recommended | 09-13-2023 | There’s some enjoyment to be found in Lies of P. Its action is competent, but lacks the polish and stir of its contemporaries. Its atmosphere can be engrossing, but it’s a hodgepodge of themes and aesthetics you’ve seen before that never rises above the familiar. I was never impressed by it, and I never stopped questioning the point of the entire endeavour throughout my time with it. | Read review |
VGChartz | Paul Broussard | 6 / 10 | 09-29-2023 | Lies of P goes from imitating From Software’s concept to tearing off its skin and wearing it around like a poncho. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 7.8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a very good Soulslike that doesn’t quite reach greatness due to its lack of variety and needless limitations. That aside; what’s here is still undeniably rewarding and entertaining so fans of the genre will enjoy what it has to offer. | Read review |
VideoGamer | Finlay Cattanach | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P is a masterclass in utilising passion and inspiration to create something distinct. While its execution isn’t perfect, the enthralling grimdark world of Krat and the overall excellent gameplay make for a fun experience many Souls-like fans are sure to enjoy. | Read review |
WayTooManyGames | Kyle Nicol | 8 / 10 | 10-03-2023 | Lies of P is a very interesting game in the sense that it succeeds at emulating the look, feel and gameplay of From Software’s Souls games, most notably (and obviously) Bloodborne, but a handful of issues hamper it from reaching its full potential. It has some neat combat and RPG elements, as well as a fascinating world to explore, but it is also a bit too formulaic. | Read review |
Wccftech | Francesco De Meo | 8 / 10 | 09-13-2023 | Not even attempting to hide the massive influence Bloodborne has had on it, Lies of P is a solid imitation of the game developed by FromSoftware. While it lacks the same combat and world design finesse of its illustrious inspiration, the action role-playing game by NEOWIZ is among the most accomplished soulslike game released this year, thanks to its dark retelling of the story of Pinocchio, combat and character customization tweaks and great enemy design. | Read review |
WellPlayed | James Wood | 9 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | Lies of P melds its strange choice of source material with a sublime set of combat and customisation tools to craft a unique take on the Soulslike that stands shoulder to shoulder with its genre inspirations. | Read review |
Windows Central | Alexander Cope | 5 / 5 stars | 09-13-2023 | Lies of P had me hooked from the get-go, and it never let up. The combat system has a ton of layers of complexity, the bosses are fiercely difficult but provide immense catharsis once you have beaten them, the character customization systems are addictive and the story was an entertaining, dark reimagining of Pinocchio. If you’re a fan of Soulslikes or challenging action-RPGs with a grim setting, then I highly recommend grabbing this title when you get the chance. | Read review |
Worth Playing | Cody Medellin | 8.5 / 10 | 09-18-2023 | Lies of P is a solid Souls-like title that benefits from being one of the first to emulate parts of the Bloodborne vibe and style that people have been clamoring for since that title was released. The time period and Belle Epoque style give the game a fresh identity of its own, and the title tones down some of the elements from the From Software hit, while still retaining the high level of difficulty that fans enjoy. The combat can be deep due to the weapon variety, and the secrets to be uncovered are numerous, which partially makes up for the lack of online functionality. As long as you don’t try to look too much into the story, you’ll find Lies of P to be an enjoyable experience all around. | Read review |
Xbox Achievements | Josh Wise | 80 / 100 | 09-28-2023 | Taking inspiration from Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Lies of P leads the pack of FromSoftware imitators. It has an intriguing and arresting world and some brutal, assured combat. With a hollow hero in the middle. | Read review |
ZTGD | Terrence Johnson | 7.5 / 10 | 09-14-2023 | Lies of P comes across as the ‘Bloodbourne we have at home’ from its gothic architecture and dark and gritty themes it feels very much like the Bloodbourne fans have been craving at 60fps. But Lies of P does enough to cut the strings that may be attaching it to Sony’s Bloodborne. Round8 and the team have carved out just enough to make this genre their own, from the tweaks to health and combat to the way recovering lost ergo works; Lies of P has become managed to indeed become a real boy. | Read review |
