This turn-based historic RPG features solid technical combat, but a boring story and a mountain of bugs make it difficult to recommend.

Expeditions: Viking is a rough-hewn game with an abundance of charm. Deep role playing and nuanced, tactical combat save this technical mess.
Expeditions: Vikings, while not perfect, offers outstanding tactical combat, with excellent character and world development. You’ll encounter a host of interesting characters, fulfilling quests and important decisions as you travel from Denmark, to Britannia, in a quest to save your clan.
Expeditions: Viking finds an excellent balance between historical realism and RPG mechanics.

BaziCenter | Kaveh Eskandari | 8 / 10 | 05-16-2017 | Expeditions: Viking may not be the best choice for casual gamers. But if you can take your time and learn through its detailed world and complicated rules, you’ll enjoy it very much and for a very long time. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Lane Martin | 7.5 / 10 | 05-08-2017 | Expedition: Viking is a fun slightly strategic RPG that utilizes an interesting theme to great effect. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take enough chances to really be memorable. | Read review |

Cubed3 | Eric | 5 / 10 | 05-01-2017 | The real issue for Expeditions: Viking is simply whether or not someone is a fan of this older style WRPG experience. This offers very little to stand out from the crowd in this regard and modern gamers may be put off by various UI issues, or the heavy stat dependence. However, for those who liked these kinds of games, it sticks true to the recipe and the different resolution of quests is interesting to see. Trying different builds or dialogue options gives the potential for replay. One of the major things currently weighing it down is the various issues outstanding, matters that seem like more rigorous testing was required or something that comments from players would fix in a future update. The potential for a pretty fun game is present, but at this stage is still at least a patch or two away from being great. | Read review |
Destructoid | Robo Panda Z | Recommended | 04-27-2017 | While I’ve enjoyed my time with Expeditions: Viking so far, despite its problems, there is still much to see, many to meet, and at least one more church to loot. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Alex Tudor | 5.5 / 10 | 01-23-2017 | Expedition: Viking is a fun turn-based RPG that is unfortunately marred by various technical issues. While the combat and story are intriguing, the “same-y” environments and characters leave a lot to be desired. | Read review |
Digitally Downloaded | Ginny W. | 4 / 5 stars | 05-01-2017 | I’d recommend this game to anyone with a passing interest in tactical RPGs, and anyone who looked at Torment: Tides of Numenera and went, “this is bloody amazing.” Expeditions: Viking doesn’t make it feel good to be bad, but it doesn’t have to. It proves that being responsible is hardly the dullard’s choice when it comes to honouring Odin, and after all, history won’t remember you at all if you don’t live long enough to win. | Read review |
DualShockers | Tomas Franzese | 7.5 / 10 | 04-29-2017 | I enjoyed my time with Expeditions: Viking, even though noticeable technical problems can hold it back. Its engaging story kept me constantly intrigued, and made me want to survive for the sake of my village. Long load times and a few glitched out quests really held back the experience from ascending the level to other great strategy titles, but I would definitely recommend to strategy fans because of its deep and engaging gameplay. | Read review |
Game Rant | Cody Gravelle | 3 / 5 stars | 05-01-2017 | Logic Artists’ follow-up to the cult hit Expeditions: Conquistador improves on nearly everything, but is hamstrung by too many game-breaking bugs and glitches. | Read review |
GameGrin | Alex Hamilton | 6.5 / 10 | 05-16-2017 | Behind some rage-inducing problems Expeditions: Viking is incredibly good. It enhances everything established in Conquistador and brings the setting to real life. Whether players will want to struggle through a sea of crashes and mistimed saves to experience it all is another factor altogether. | Read review |
Gamers Heroes | Johnny Hurricane | 7 / 10 | 05-10-2017 | My adventure as a Viking Thegn was a rocky one, but one that I still enjoyed. If you think the idea of playing as a viking is fun, or think the time period is interesting, give it a shot if you can overlook the bugs. | Read review |
GameSkinny | Trevor Talley | 4 / 10 | 05-08-2017 | This new CRPG is deeply mediocre, even for fans of the genre. Bad combat, boring story, and bugs make for a forgettable experience. | Read review |
GameSpew | Matt Eakins | 8 / 10 | 04-27-2017 | Layered with enough depth and intricacy for genre veterans, but loaded with fantastic tutorials and information for newcomers, this game welcomes all types of players. A formula that has been bettered, through and through, Expeditions: Viking is an absolute joy. | Read review |
GameSpot | Daniel Starkey | 6 / 10 | 05-08-2017 | Expeditions: Viking is a rough-hewn game with an abundance of charm. Deep role playing and nuanced, tactical combat save this technical mess. | Read review |
Gaming Nexus | Aidan Kelly | 7.4 / 10 | 06-12-2017 | Expeditions: Vikings is a fantastic role playing strategy game for those of us whom feel the need to raid and pillage. It creates an authentic social environment where traditions and customs and be enforced or forsaken, much like the gods and myths in the Norse universe. Its a bit clunky, and not very pretty, but neither were the Vikings. With a few more character portraits, and some spit and polish it could be a real gem for any gaming collection. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Dale Emasiri | 8 / 10 | 04-27-2017 | While Expeditions: Viking won’t be winning any awards for ground-breaking storytelling or innovative gameplay, it’s compelling in just the right way that keeps commanding attention throughout. I found it to be a lot of fun, if a little unpolished in places. | Read review |
IGN Spain | Carlos G. Gurpegui | 6 / 10 | 04-27-2017 | Expeditions: Vikings fails to sustain the achieves of itsantecesor. Beside its technical issues the game have some problems with the difficult and with the development of his narrative. Only suitable for true lovers of the genre or the historical time. | Read review |
Oyungezer Online | Nurettin Tan | 8 / 10 | 05-16-2017 | It’s a successful RPG game that’s built upon Viking mythos, with great micro management systems. | Read review |
Post Arcade (National Post) | Chad Sapieha | Not Recommended | 04-28-2017 | Logic Artists’ turn-based historic RPG has great combat and a story cut from the same cloth as the Vikings TV show, but it’s in dire need of patching | Read review |
SomHráč.sk | Róbert Hagan | 70 / 100 | 05-22-2017 | Fun trip to the 8th century from the Danish invaders’ point of view. Expeditions: Viking’s combination tactical combat with clan building and exploration is brought down by its technical issues, though. | Read review |
SpazioGames | Daniele Spelta | 8.5 / 10 | 04-30-2017 | Expedition: Viking is a great mix made by strategy and RPG elements, a must have for all fans of Expedition: Conquistador, but some imperfections are still present. | Read review |
