Be Safe. Be Respectful.
We want people to feel safe when using the Services provided by VSG. For that reason, we’ve developed a set of Community Standards, which will help you understand your place in the VSG community, and what type of content standards we enforce. Because of the diversity of our community, please keep in mind that something that may be disagreeable or disturbing to you may not violate our Community Standards.
These Community Standards are applicable wherever VSG has a presence, and are a summary and reduction of a thorough, thoughtful, and living content policy that VSG spent a long time building and defining. These Standards exist to shape and guide VSG and the growing number of users and communities using it. This is not about building an arbitrary framework of right or wrong. It’s not even about what’s “legal” or “illegal.” It’s about making VSG a place where diverse people and communities feel excited, supported, and happy to exist.
We’re proud of these Community Standards, and we believe they will help build a safe and supportive environment.
Helping to Keep you Safe
Direct Threats
We carefully review reports of threatening language to identify serious threats of harm to public and personal safety. We remove any and all threats of physical harm – regardless of credibility – to individuals.
Harassment
We do not tolerate bullying or harassment in any form. We allow you to speak freely on matters of public interest, but remove content that appears purposefully target private individuals with the intention of degrading or shaming them. We define private individuals as people who have neither gained news attention nor the interest of the public, by way of their actions or public profession.
Public Figures
We permit open and critical discussion of people who are featured in the news or have a large public audience based on their profession or chosen activities. We remove credible threats to public figures, as well as hate speech directed at them – just as we do for private individuals.
Encouraging Respectful Behavior
Hate Speech
People use VSG to learn about video games, share their gaming experiences, and raise awareness about issues that are important to them. This means that you may encounter opinions that are different from yours, which we believe can lead to important conversation. To help balance the needs, safety, and interest of a diverse community of gamers, however, we may remove certain kinds of sensitive content.
VSG removes hate speech, which includes content that directly attacks people based on their: race; ethnicity; national origin; religious affiliation; sex, gender, or gender identity; or disabilities or diseases.
People may use VSG to challenge ideas, institutions, and practices. Such discussion can promote debate and greater understanding. But people who promote hatred against these protected groups are not permitted a presence in the VSG community. In the presence of hate speech, we encourage our community to speak up and educate the community around you. Counter-speech in the form of accurate information and alternative viewpoints can help create a safer and more respectful environment.
Protecting your Intellectual Property
VSG is a place for you to share your opinions and celebrate things that are important to you. You own all of the content and information you post on VSG. However, before sharing content on VSG, please be sure that you have the right to do so. We ask that you respect copyrights, trademarks, and other legal rights.
