Game
Awards
Each December, VSG turns its attention to the MetaMeter Game Awards (MMGAs). The MMGAs are a symbol of success, recognizing the best from the year in gaming. Here is the schedule for the 2022 MMGAs. Browse winners from previous years at the bottom of the page.
6th Annual MMGAs Key Dates:
– December 6, 2022: Nominees Announced
– December 12 to 13, 2022: Category Winners Announced
– December 14, 2022: Platform Winners Announced
– December 15 to 16, 2022: Game of the Year Countdown
– January 9, 2023 to TBD: People’s Choice Tournament
Judging Criteria: Winners are selected for recognition by VSG based on editorial discretion and critical excellence, as reflected by the game’s MetaMeter Score (percent critic recommended), Average Critic Score, and Adjusted Score. Time Period: The 2022 MMGA’s covers games released between Dec 1, 2021 and Nov 30, 2022.
2022 Category Awards: The MMGAs honor games in seven (7) distinct award categories: Action, Adventure, Platformer, Role-Playing Game, Shooter, Strategy, Sports. In 2022, Category Awards will be announced throughout the day on Dec 13 and 14.
2022 Platform Awards: *NEW* for 2022, the MMGA’s will honor the best platform exclusive title for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC. For these awards, cross-release on both console and PC is acceptable; PC games, however, must be exclusive to the platform.
2022 Game of the Year: The MMGAs honor a single Game of the Year reflecting the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields. As with previous years, the 2022 Game of the Year will be announced via a countdown from ten (10) over a two day period (Dec 15 and Dec 16), culminating in a GOTY announcement.
2022 People’s Choice Award: VSG will hold a People’s Choice Tournament via our Instagram Story from January 9, 2023 to TBD. In the tournament, the 32-best games from 2022 will go head-to-head in daily matchups until a winner is determined.
Where: The MMGAs are announced via VSG’s official Instagram Channel. This page, as well as individual Game Hubs, will be updated accordingly following the Instagram announcement.
