WWE 2K22 is a solid effort that overcomes the problems of past years with ease, even if it will only appeal to a certain breed of wrestling fan.
Slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy them a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled.
WWE 2K22 is a tremendous leap forward compared to 2K20. The action is faster, more pick-up-and-play friendly, the roster of 160+ wrestlers has never looked better, and the addition of MyGM mode rounds out a well rounded offering of modes for just about every type of wrestling fan.

Areajugones | Federico Tozzo | 8.5 / 10 | 03-17-2022 | WWE 2K22 exudes fun on all four sides. The simplification of the combat system is a meeting point for both newbies and veterans of the saga and eliminates the initial barrier for the less usual. Its different game modes make you have multiple playable options and you do not want to detach yourself from it. With this installment they overcome the ghosts of the past and have a prosperous path to follow for the future. | Read review |
Atomix | Ernesto (Neto) Olicón | 80 / 100 | 03-09-2022 | WWE 2K22 looks good, feels good, and most importantly, it manages to create a solid foundation for the franchise. After being absent for one year, Visual Concepts has managed to deliver one of the best entries in the wrestling franchise, although it also feels like a product that has much more to fulfill. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Shaun Cichacki | 4 / 5 stars | 03-11-2022 | If there was a word to summarize how fans will feel with this title, it would be Surprised. Surprised to see how much love and care was put into this title, from entrances to the sheer amount of things for you to customize within the world. Visual Concepts knocked the ball out of the park with this entry, but there are a few little things that hold it back from being the greatest of all time. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Morteza Mousavi | 7 / 10 | 03-21-2022 | WWE 2K22 manages to polish a lot of issues from the previous game, but it’s still not quite there yet. The good thing though is that it seems they put the first stone right, and the future of the series could be bright. | Read review |
Bazimag | Sina Golabzade | 8 / 10 | 03-09-2022 | After the last entry which was the absolute low point for probably any franchise in the history of video games, it seems that the developers have used the hiatus in the best possible way and finally released a professional wrestling title with many entertaining modes and a whole new combat system with modern visuals. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Nick Erlenhof | 8.1 / 10 | 03-15-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a great foundation and gets the series back on track. Due to the hiatus of 2K21 and the months of delay, the squad is no longer up to date. But apart from MyFaction, we enjoyed every mode, the graphics are impressive and there are no bugs or creepy glitches in sight. Wrestling fans go for it, the rest only play the showcase mode with Rey Mysterio. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Philip Watson | 7.5 / 10 | 03-14-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a step in the right direction, with a lot of content and a lot of fun to be had. A far from perfect title loaded with nostalgia, and too many game modes can be overwhelming. An easy recommend for wrestling fans, and newcomers. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Luke Mitchell | 8 / 10 | 03-14-2022 | After a poor last effort, WWE 2K22 brings the long-running wrestling franchise back in a big way, proving that the extra development time is just what the doctor ordered. It successfully streamlines its in-ring action so that it’s more adaptable to players of different skill levels, removing archaic systems that previously bogged it down. Animations and presentation are top notch, and there really is a game mode for everybody, with a lot of variety. While not all the modes deserve to main event when you dissect them in detail, there’s still a very strong foundation to build from; the bottom line is that WWE 2K22 is the best wrestling game in over a decade. | Read review |
Chicas Gamers | Adrián de Francisco | Recommended | 03-15-2022 | WWE 2K22 arrives to be a new reference in wrestling video games with a fresh and dynamic proposal that, although it needs a lot of learning, is the most polished to date. The graphic part has also had a great improvement, giving us the feeling of being in combat thanks to the details of the suits, the fighters. An excellent game for all wrestling fans and more than necessary if your last title was 2k20 to get rid of the bad taste in your mouth. | Read review |
COGconnected | Rhett Waselenchuk | 79 / 100 | 03-13-2022 | At the end of the day, though, I’m able to look past WWE 2K22’s shortcomings in ways I haven’t been able to with this series in over a decade. And why? Because 2K22 is a ton of fun. It strikes a tremendous balance between its quick, arcadey gameplay and smooth, simulation-like animation system. Plus, the Showcase and MyFaction modes are fantastic, with the latter offering hours upon hours of gameplay. This is one I’ll be wrestling with for a long time. 2K finally put some proper chefs in the kitchen. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Neil Flynn | 6 / 10 | 03-14-2022 | WWE 2K22 certainly hits different, go check the score again, it certainly has not come out a perfect ten. The redeemable qualities, thankfully, are the wrestling mechanics themselves, which ironically might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and MyRISE mode which offers a good amount of content to keep the average WWE gamer going. It has taken over 2 years for the game to finally release and while it is an improvement on WWE 2K20 it still serves up disappointment in other ways, such as an outdated roster, a pathetic attempt at recreating General Manager mode, and a disgusting ethical issue of microtransactions in MyFACTION mode, albeit optional. MyFACTION mode is enjoyable, and can be played without using real-world money to progress, but the fact of the matter is that this mechanic should not exist in a full priced game. If you came to play then there is certainly a price to pay. | Read review |
Cultured Vultures | Ashley Bates | 8 / 10 | 03-11-2022 | Though not a flawless reinvention, WWE 2K22 is a monumentally large step in the right direction for the series. | Read review |
Daily Mirror | Eugene Sowah | 4 / 5 stars | 03-10-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a return to former glory with developers Visual Concepts really paying attention to what didn’t work in 2K20. | Read review |
DASHGAMER.com | Dan Rizzo | 8 / 10 | 03-26-2022 | The notorious wrestling franchise that has needed a soft reboot for a near decade has now arrived, undoubtedly welcomed by fans. A familiar formula that doesn’t fracture the flow intended for its initial fanbase, yet promulgates all pre-existing and polished mechanics, with Visual Concepts own added twist. | Read review |

DualShockers | Callum Smith | 7 / 10 | 03-10-2022 | Despite its frustrating shortcomings, WWE 2K22 is a solid foundation for the series’ future. Entrances are spectacular and the combat is nearly flawless, so what needs improving next time is replayable modes like MyGM and Universe. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Raffaello Rusconi | 8 / 10 | 03-11-2022 | Never testimonial was more apt: Rey Mysterio, in fact, with a spectacular 619 has swept away all the uncertainties of the past projecting the Visual Concepts wrestling series into a new dimension, that of the next-gen. | Read review |
Expansive | Jay Jones | Recommended | 03-11-2022 | WWE 2K22 is the best WWE game 2K have released in a very long time. It’s still not perfect and there are moments that still hamper it, but it’s a lot more user-friendly, there’s a good chunk of content here, there’s a lot of customisation possibilities, a healthy, varied roster is available – even though many of them don’t work at the company anymore – and you’ll find a lot of investment for your time here between MyGM and MyRISE. A real step up and improvement from WWE 2K20, things are definitely back on the right track. | Read review |
Forbes | Brian Mazique | 7.5 / 10 | 03-12-2022 | This is a re-establishment year for the WWE 2K series. Let’s face it, WWE 2K20 was rough and while it took more than 2 years to develop, 2K has re-emerged with a strong and not only playable wrestling game, but a fun one. The engine is better and the basics are tighter, but we’re looking forward to more layers in the future. | Read review |
Game Informer | Marcus Stewart | 8 / 10 | 03-11-2022 | There’s still work to be done, but like a retired veteran returning to put on a surprisingly solid match, WWE 2K22 manages to shake off the ring rust and perform better than the naysayers expected. | Read review |
Game Rant | Dalton Cooper | 3.5 / 5 stars | 03-08-2022 | From Showcase to MyGM, WWE 2K22 is stuffed with content, and in terms of graphics and polish, it’s a huge improvement over its predecessors. But the game has some notable drawbacks, especially with the botched MyGM, which could have been the crown jewel of WWE 2K22’s game modes. The foundation is there for a future WWE game to provide a more fleshed-out MyGM experience, so hopefully, it isn’t abandoned again. | Read review |
GameGrin | Mike Crewe | 8 / 10 | 03-13-2022 | Not only is WWE 2K22 better in every way than the previous game in the series, it’s arguably the best and most fun WWE title since the PS2 glory days. One that will certainly make you acknowledge the Head of the Table! | Read review |

GameSpew | Richard Seagrave | 8 / 10 | 03-07-2022 | A year off has truly been beneficial to the WWE 2K franchise – WWE 2K22 is by far the best entry in the series yet. It’s been a long time since a WWE 2K game has had us so keen to jump into one match after another, and that’s largely thanks to the numerous gameplay improvements that have been made. Add in a welcome layer of polish and a selection of modes that have all bases covered, and you have a winner. There’s still a little room for improvement, but if you’re a wrestling fan, consider this a must-have. | Read review |

Gaming Nexus | Joseph Moorer | 8.5 / 10 | 03-20-2022 | WWE2K22 has a TON of content that you wanted in a wrestling game. With revamped graphics, mechanics, and customization modes, this one will be hard to stop playing. MyGM and MyRise shine here, and while this title is going to be hard to top, but if this is the blueprint for WWE games going forward, sign me up. | Read review |
GamingBolt | Usaid | 8 / 10 | 03-15-2022 | A simplified gameplay loop, a thrilling Showcase mode, and a surprisingly deep MyRise mode combine to make WWE 2K22 one of the strongest entries the franchise has seen in a while. | Read review |
Generación Xbox | Gabriel Fuentes | 8.8 / 10 | 03-12-2022 | WWE 2K22 I think will become an example of how to recover a franchise after a big failure. 2K promised and 2K delivered, I doubt very much that this year we will see anything better in this genre and I think that with the DLCs that will come to the title, developers can even take next year too and work on new innovations for 2024, because this game has a long life. | Read review |

Hobby Consolas | Rafa Dominguez | 78 / 100 | 03-10-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a beacon on the road: the sports simulation of wrestling returns with that essence that allows older children to go out to play again, with defects to correct, but with a goal that can return the illusion to the fans of the saga. | Read review |

IGN Middle East | Mohamed Shorbgy | 8.5 / 10 | 03-22-2022 | 2K and Visual Concepts have been able to get the WWE 2K series back on track with WWE 2K22, and in time we’ll probably get the wrestling game that can be described as the best wrestling game ever. | Read review |
IGN Spain | Álex Pareja | 8 / 10 | 03-11-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a game that we deserve, that is not perfect and does not suppose an absolute revolution, but that marks a very exciting path for the franchise and that makes us enjoy again. | Read review |

Niche Gamer | Matt Kowalski | 7 / 10 | 03-19-2022 | The game’s controls feel more like a chore and the overall gameplay still needs to be patched a bit. NoobFeed | Sarwar Ron | 85 / 100 | 03-21-2022 | WWE 2K22 is jam-packed with content, and it represents a significant step forward in terms of graphics and quality when compared to its predecessors. However, there are also significant flaws in the game especially when it comes to multiplayer matches, but a solid groundwork has surely been laid for the future WWE games of this series. | Read review |
Operation Sports | Philip Varckette | Recommended | 03-08-2022 | Regardless, WWE 2K22 has many strengths. You have MyRise, which is a highlight for me. On top of that, the thought of how amazing some of the community creations will be has me excited as always. And last but not least, the gameplay is greatly improved. If you have been waiting on a great game of WWE 2K between the ropes, then yes, WWE 2K22 hits different after a long lull. | Read review |
Oyungezer Online | Engin Vural | 8 / 10 | 03-28-2022 | Efforts were made to keep 2020 as a road accident, and this time they came up with a game like it should have. With plenty of game mode and plenty of content, a fun WWE experience awaits you. | Read review |
PC Invasion | Jason Rodriguez | 8 / 10 | 03-09-2022 | WWE 2K22 does have some notable problems, such as modes that feel lacking or tacked on. Thankfully, it manages to excel in other departments, including visuals, controls, and performance. Although its predecessors set a very low bar, WWE 2K22 still cleared it and exceeded expectations. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | John-Paul Jones | 8.5 / 10 | 03-10-2022 | Though it’s hardly a tall hurdle to clear, WWE 2K22 is the best WWE 2K game since they started appending ‘2K’ to the title. Much more than that though, it’s the best wrestling game to come along in a long, long time and one which almost completely banishes everything that has been historically wrong with the franchise, while also managing to strike out in a bold direction for the series’ future. Here’s hoping that the likely return to the annual release schedule doesn’t result in a lapse to bad habits and lazy innovation because, well, we’ve been there for the last ten years or so – and it isn’t fun. | Read review |
Press Start | Toby Berger | 8 / 10 | 03-15-2022 | After some time away from the ring, Visual Concepts has re-emerged to deliver a wrestling game packing more than a few (superman) punches. PSX Brasil | Thiago de Alencar Moura | 80 / 100 | 03-25-2022 | WWE 2K22 fixes many of the serious bugs of the previous game and builds a solid foundation to build on with great gameplay and interesting game modes. Although minor, there are issues that need to be fixed, but there is a lot of fun to be had here. | Read review |
Push Square | Ben Potter | 7 / 10 | 03-10-2022 | WWE 2K22 is the return to form the WWE 2K series has desperately needed. Skipping 2K21 and delaying the release by five months may have caused the roster to be largely outdated, but the game is stable, plays great, and is practically bursting at the seams with content. An excellent Rey Mysterio Showcase really bolsters the experience, and every other mode (perhaps with the exception of MyFaction) sets a strong foundation for WWE games to come. | Read review |

Screen Rant | J. Brodie Shirey | 4.5 / 5 stars | 03-09-2022 | WWE 2K22 isn’t a perfect reinvention of 2K Games’ wrestling series, but it provides solid gameplay and plenty of variety in its many game modes, and the presentation throughout is top-notch. It’s clear that Visual Concepts utilized the extra time afforded to it by WWE 2K22’s longer development cycle well, providing wrestling fans with a worthwhile experience that redeems the franchise for its previous losses in the squared circle. | Read review |

Shacknews | Chris Jarrard | 6 / 10 | 03-16-2022 | WWE 2K22 is the definition of a mixed bag. There are clearly areas where the team at Visual Concepts made positive progress with the franchise, particularly in wrestler AI and animations. Many of the marquee talents look fantastic and there is a lot to do within the game. Sadly, most of the modes are half-baked and the series is still suffering from bugs or problems it has carried for far too long. | Read review |

The Games Machine | Claudio Magistrelli | 8.5 / 10 | 03-14-2022 | When I was young, my parents told me that patience is a virtue: I never believed them. WWE 2K22 taught me that was true. The two years hiatus gave Visual Concepts the time to make things right, tuning all the parts of the game that weren’t good enough in the past. You can always do better, so some aspects (like the MyGM game mode) could be improved, but WWE 2K22 feels like a fresh new start. | Read review |
The Outerhaven Productions | Karl Smart | 4 / 5 stars | 03-09-2022 | WWE 2K22 is one of those games that, as a wrestling fan, I don’t mind playing a few times over before using it as a WCW/ECW/AEW simulator game till something else comes along. The MyRise career mode looks to be a highlight of an otherwise limited video game. Now only if WWE could do something about their real-life product (and not fire half the roster before a game release) that can compare to some of the bookings you can do in WWE 2K22 and maybe they might have a chance to return to dominance… Till then, bring on the AEW video game! | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Adrian Burrows | 5 / 10 | 03-17-2022 | WWE 2K22 isn’t a good fighting game, despite the multiplayer being a bit of knock-around fun. The woolly controls, messy inputs, and numerous glitches lead to an underwhelming video game experience, while the lacklustre Showcase and MyRise game modes don’t manage to replicate the bombast of professional wrestling, WWE 2K22 isn’t a particularly good wrestling game either. It’s a decent laugh in multiplayer, but with the notably hefty price tag I would expect a lot more than that. | Read review |

VGC | Chris Scullion | 4 / 5 stars | 03-08-2022 | WWE 2K22 is the comeback fans of the series have been hoping for. While it still won’t trouble WWF No Mercy for the ‘best WWE game’ title, it’s the first time in many years that the series has delivered both in and out of the ring. | Read review |
Wccftech | Nathan Birch | 6.5 / 10 | 03-11-2022 | WWE 2K22 is a major improvement over its insulting predecessor, featuring some smart tweaks to core gameplay and fan-favorite modes. That said, promises of a “completely rebuilt” experience ring hollow as it’s clear old tech is still being used, and while the action has been refined, it remains a notch below most other fighting or combat sports games you could name. Your reaction to the game will largely hinge on how you felt about 2K’s series before its hiatus, with those that still saw promise likely to have a good time. That said, don’t expect WWE 2K22 to transcend mid-card status if your patience was already at an end. | Read review |

Worth Playing | Cody Medellin | 7 / 10 | 03-10-2022 | If the recent rumors that EA Games is going to start developing WWE games turns out to be untrue, then WWE 2K22 serves as a fairly good base to work from for future offerings. The fighting alone is much improved and enjoyable to work with, and the graphics look quite nice, even though some flourishes are missing and the PC version isn’t up to expectations. The modes are pretty hit-and-miss, and the legacy issues and hilariously outdated roster show that this isn’t quite the comeback many people were hoping for. There’s enough fun to be had here, despite the issues to warrant a look for those craving a “good enough” wrestling game, especially from those who were heavily burned by WWE 2K20. | Read review |
Xbox Achievements | Richard Walker | 80 / 100 | 03-10-2022 | After the disastrous launch of WWE 2K20, 2K and Visual Concepts really faced something of a turning point, an uphill struggle, and after a lengthy hiatus, WWE 2K22 emerges as the best entry in the series for years. As per the game’s tagline, it really does ‘hit different’. | Read review |
ZTGD | Unknown | 7 / 10 | 03-18-2022 | Most importantly I expected some big improvements, and while some of the items here definitely meet that qualification the game is still stuck in a rut with respect to AI and physics/clipping issues. There’s talk that WWE may look to partner with EA on future games, so this may be the last go around for the team at 2K, but if it’s not I hope that their focus for WWE 2k23 will be on fixing some of these issues so that the solid base they’ve built can actually live up to its potential. Hopefully I’m not revisiting that sentence again next year. | Read review |
