Peril on Gorgon adds welcome depth to the narrative and a few hours of fun onto The Outer Worlds. The DLC is enjoyable, but it's more of the same, for better and for worse.
Critic Reviews for The Outer Worlds – Peril on Gorgon
Reviews
Dan Stapleton (IGN)
7/10
“The Outer Worlds’ Peril on Gorgon DLC is mechanically unambitious in that it doesn’t introduce any new ideas to change up gameplay, but it does take the crew of the Unreliable to several new locations around the Hyperion system as it unveils a fairly lengthy and entertaining detective story.”
Jordan Devore (Destructoid)
8/10
“That said, without knowing exactly when or where the second half of the Season Pass will slot in, I’d potentially wait to knock both DLC stories out at the same time (and save a bit of money) if you can.”
Michael Leri (Game Revolution)
4.5/5 stars
“Gorgon might be a dangerous rock that has been overrun by hostile Marauders, but it’s one heck of a spot for a hilarious and engaging multi-hour tale of intrigue.”

33bits | Juanma F. Padilla | 90 / 100 | 09-09-2020 | Danger on Gorgon is an expansion like the ones before, and when scoring The Outer Worlds: Danger in Gorgona we do it as the game set + expansion since it is added and forms symbiosis with the base game. And, although it is not essential, we do consider its acquisition highly recommended to expand and enjoy this great Obsidian game. Technically it does not vary with respect to what has already been seen, but as happens in the expansions, it is limited to being a continuist and expanding content. And in that aspect, that of expanding content and integrating with the game, it does it perfectly. The perfect complement while waiting for a sequel to exist. | Read review |

Attack of the Fanboy | Brandon Adams | 4 / 5 stars | 09-09-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon is story DLC done right. It builds and expands on the existing world while providing a fun, meaty new narrative for fans to dig into. It doesn’t address all of the issues players had with The Outer Worlds at launch, but that doesn’t stop Peril On Gorgon from being a worthy addition to Obsidian’s spacefaring RPG. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Charles Hartford | 8.5 / 10 | 09-11-2020 | I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Peril on Gorgon. It delivered more of what I love about The Outer Worlds. If you enjoy the sort of misadventure the core game is famous for you should enjoy this expansion. However, if you weren’t sold the first time around, nothing about Gorgon is going to get you onboard now. | Read review |
COGconnected | Alexander Thomas | 78 / 100 | 09-15-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is full of just as much wonderful space-western dialogue as the base game. It’s gritty, suspenseful, intense, and dark. New characters like Clarence Mostly and Minnie Ambrose are engaging, the kind of people we want to really dive further into. Gorgon itself is beautiful in its desolation and it really is an absolute joy to come back to the Halcyon system. | Read review |
Destructoid | Jordan Devore | 8 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | That said, without knowing exactly when or where the second half of the Season Pass will slot in, I’d potentially wait to knock both DLC stories out at the same time (and save a bit of money) if you can. | Read review |
Easy Allies | Daniel Bloodworth | 3.75 / 5 stars | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon doesn’t do anything too surprising, but adds a solid new chapter to The Outer Worlds, addressing unanswered questions and delving deeper into its dysfunctional corporate culture. | Read review |
Expansive | Sam Diglett | Recommended | 09-22-2020 | Obsidian have built a mostly entertaining piece of DLC that – while not essential – is one Outer Worlds fans will enjoy from start to finish. | Read review |
FingerGuns | Rossko Keniston | 8 / 10 | 09-12-2020 | Peril on Gorgon plays it very safe, which may frustrate players who were looking for it to mix up the formula. For people like me though, who just wanted a reason to take control of the Unreliable once again and tear it across Halcion, this is exactly what you’re after. | Read review |
Game Debate | Chad Norton | 8 / 10 | 09-27-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon adds a nice chunk to the already delicious pie, It’s a satisfying extension of an already entertaining experience, so if you enjoyed the base game then you will definitely enjoy this new expansion. The writing is stellar as always, with the typical Obsidian charm that hooked us the first time round. And whilst it’s mostly just more of the same, I’m perfectly happy with that. | Read review |
Game Revolution | Michael Leri | 4.5 / 5 stars | 09-09-2020 | Gorgon might be a dangerous rock that has been overrun by hostile Marauders, but it’s one heck of a spot for a hilarious and engaging multi-hour tale of intrigue. | Read review |
Gameblog | Jonathan Bushle | 6 / 10 | 09-21-2020 | The Outer Worlds is back with Peril on Gorgon, who adds few hours of fun to the original game. | Read review |
Gamers Heroes | Johnny Hurricane | 7 / 10 | 09-10-2020 | Fans of The Outer Worlds will be happy with Peril on Gorgon. However, for anyone else, fifteen dollars is far too steep of an asking price. | Read review |
GameSkinny | Jordan Baranowski | 8 / 10 | 09-08-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is the first of two story DLCs for The Outer Worlds. It tells a fun tale and, like the original game, doesn’t overstay its welcome. | Read review |
GameSpew | Chris Mc | 7 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is an entertainingly substantial chunk of The Outer Worlds content, with a handful of side-quests that will keep you poking around the planet until you’ve seen every inch. | Read review |
GamingTrend | David Flynn | 75 / 100 | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is simply more Outer Worlds. It feels like a natural addition and fits right in with the rest of the game, while offering a slightly different tone in terms of story. The main quest is lengthy and replayable, but there’s not much in terms of side quests or gear. | Read review |
GBAtemp | Christopher Otero | 7.3 / 10 | 10-14-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is, for the most part, a solid expansion to The Outer Worlds. While it doesn’t do too much beyond adding a new story and locales, equipment and character options, it definitely makes the base game feel a bit more full. It still has some of the issues that the base game has but is an overall enjoyable experience and one I recommend if you want to get a bit more out of The Outer Worlds. | Read review |
Geek Culture | Jake Su | 7.5 / 10 | 09-10-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is about more of the same good stuff that made the base game great, and sometimes, that is enough. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Mick Fraser | 6.5 / 10 | 09-11-2020 | If you really enjoyed The Outer Worlds and need a reason to play again, or have been hankering for more, then Peril on Gorgon is worth checking out. | Read review |
GotGame | Cole Nixon | 6.5 / 10 | 09-17-2020 | Personally, The Outer Worlds is not really my cup of tea. However, Peril On Gorgon proves that Obsidian is still capable of putting out capable expansions. While it doesn’t stack up to expansions by larger studios, it’s a great effort by Obsidian. If you’re a fan of the game, this will be essential to continue your experience. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Chris Shive | 4 / 5 stars | 09-11-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon adds an engaging new story to The Outer Worlds. The new content, save for the new location to explore, doesn’t change up the formula too much but that’s absolutely fine. | Read review |

IGN Italy | Stefano Castagnola | 6.8 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | Not a bad expansion but not even a very good one, Peril on Gorgon can be an enjoyable return to the Halcyon colony for those that can’t wait to play some more of The Outer World. For everyone else, it may be better to just wait for a sale… or the next DLC. | Read review |
Impulsegamer | James Wright (Impulsegamer) | 4.4 / 5 stars | 09-16-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon DLC is a truly enjoyable return to this franchise and given the cost, it’s good value for your money. So if you have a hankering of returning to the universe of Halycon, this DLC is your panacea and is probably a nice distraction in this COVID-19 world. All in all, a well-written and carefully crafted DLC that works from the get go! | Read review |
KeenGamer | Bennet Gehring-Nobbe | 7.5 / 10 | 09-14-2020 | Obsidian’s excellent The Outer Worlds has finally received its first expansion. Aside from adding a new map to explore, Peril on Gorgon offers new quests, characters, enemies, loot and lore, as well as a level cap increase from 30 to 33. While having more to do in a great game is always a good thing, one question remains: Is this DLC worth the asking price of $14.99? | Read review |
Merlin’in Kazanı | Samet Basri Taşlı | 70 / 100 | 09-29-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is a great DLC for players who want more The Outer Worlds. Peril on Gorgon does a very good job with its Sci-fi Noir style story and successfully written dialogues. Sadly, the fact that it does not bring any extra innovations is a little bit disappointing. | Read review |
MonsterVine | Jorge Hurtado | 4 / 5 stars | 09-10-2020 | Without a doubt, this is a worthy expansion that has to be bought with the season pass as a leap of faith to see what can Obsidian bring to us next time. | Read review |
Noisy Pixel | Azario Lopez | 9 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon doesn’t hinder the experiences of the base game; instead, it enhances this small corner of the universe with more grand adventures. I appreciated the dedication that went into writing the main campaign and found the side-missions to be just as crucial to piecing together the full narrative. There was an abundance of items and weirdly placed enemy encounters that didn’t completely flow with the events, but that didn’t take away from this fantastic space opera experience. | Read review |
PC Invasion | Steven Wong | 8 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | Although battling endless hordes of hyped-up marauders can grow tiresome, Peril on Gorgon adds a welcome depth to the narrative with plenty of humor wrapped in a sci-fi film-noir mystery. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | Eric Hauter | 7 / 10 | 09-14-2020 | It is wonderful to revisit the setting and characters of The Outer Worlds. But due to the way the expansion is nestled within the greater story, the admittedly entertaining and well-written adventure ultimately feels a bit hollow. Fans will enjoy hanging out with Parvati for a few hours – and some narrative twists keep things lively – but some changes or expansions to the gameplay would have been very welcome. | Read review |
Press Start | Shannon Grixti | 7.5 / 10 | 09-10-2020 | At the end of the day, Peril on Gorgon is more The Outer Worlds. Whether that’s for better or for worse will largely depend on how much you’re itching to re-enter the Halcyon Colony and how satisfied you are with the game as it is. Obsidian have doubled down on delivering best-in-class RPG design backed by fantastic writing and quest structure and a solid gameplay loop, even if it gets there without much of an attempt to break the mould. Hopefully the next expansion throws caution to the wind a little more, but if you’re dying to jump back in I can absolutely recommend nipping off to Gorgon for a weekend. | Read review |
Push Square | Robert Ramsey | 7 / 10 | 09-15-2020 | Perhaps our favourite thing about the expansion is that it gives your crew a little more room to breathe. A lot of new dialogue has been recorded for Peril on Gorgon, and your allies chime in throughout the DLC’s main quest, which lasts a reasonable six to eight hours or so. | Read review |
Skill Up | Ralph Panebianco | Not Recommended | 09-09-2020 | I really loved The Outer Worlds. Sadly, I don’t much love this. It’s not terrible, but it’s unlikely to thrill those who come back to the game just to check it out. | Read review |
SpazioGames | Domenico Musicò | Recommended | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon tells a compelling and unsettling story about work dehumanization mixed with an intriguing family mistery. Despite the lack of new gameplay contents, it is a recommended DLC. | Read review |
TechRaptor | Austin Suther | 9 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon tells a dark and mature story that kept me enthralled once the ball got rolling. The asteroid itself is a fun area to explore and is rather sizable. The only downsides were the few side quests and underwhelming armor and weapons. | Read review |
The Game Fanatics | Deja Kirk | 6.7 / 10 | 10-19-2020 | Peril on Gorgon is definitely worth the play in a quarantine scenario. A great addition to Outer Worlds’ content but ultimately nothing thematically ground-breaking. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Daniele Dolce | 7.5 / 10 | 09-09-2020 | Peril on Gorgon further expands the background of The Outer Worlds and the colony of Alcyon, but focuses too much on the action parts of the game rather than on its narrative and role-playing sides. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Gareth Chadwick | 7 / 10 | 09-16-2020 | The Outer Worlds’ first expansion fits quite neatly into the main game, not really changing it significantly but potentially having pretty big consequences in the aftermath of the events of main plot. The story is well written and interesting with its share of surprises, and dialogue is as witty and funny as ever. If more of The Outer Worlds is what you want, Peril on Gorgon is exactly that. | Read review |
ThisGenGaming | Robby Bisschop | 9 / 10 | 09-18-2020 | The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is the perfect excuse to dive back into this wonderful RPG world. It’ll let you upgrade your character even further, it offers a lot of backstory on places and companies you’ve already learned about in the main game and there is even some replayability with the four different endings you can earn. | Read review |
Video Chums | Trey Griffeth | 5 / 10 | 10-11-2020 | Peril on Gorgon feels like another Outer Worlds mission and while that may have been okay 6 months ago, it’s too little, too late now. | Read review |
Wccftech | Alessio Palumbo | 7 / 10 | 09-11-2020 | Peril on Gorgon, the first DLC released for The Outer Worlds, maintains all of the pros and cons we’ve already seen in the base game. The plot is intriguing while the characters remain the true highlight, but combat is a bit lackluster and optimization underwhelming. | Read review |
