SoulCalibur VI has one of the most robust single-player offerings in the fighting genre and is only bogged down by a few minor issues. The core combat is as enjoyable and weighty as ever, and the new Reversal Edge mechanic introduces an exciting element of chance.

Mitchell Saltzman (IGN)
8.9/10
“The soul of Soulcalibur 6 is so strong that a few minor issues don’t do much to bring down one of the best entries in the series.”
Jason Faulkner (Game Revolution)
4.5/5 stars
“I personally loved that so much attention was paid to the single-player experience, and because of the depth of the story and fluid combat, I found this to be one of the most enjoyable fighting games I’ve ever played, adding a ton of features and a few new fighting mechanics that add just enough to the gameplay to make things interesting for long-time fans.”
Ozzie Mejia (Shacknews)
8/10
“This is on top of a one of the most robust single-player offerings I can think of in a fighting game, as well as more behind-the-scenes Museum content than one can shake a snake sword at. SoulCalibur VI is an incredible package, only bogged down by a few minor issues, and one that should be near the top of any fighting game fan’s library.”

3DNews | Иван Бышонкoв | 8.5 / 10 | 10-28-2018 | Soulcalibur VI fills the gap between casual fighting games and serious e-sports disciplines. It has great mechanics, which are easy to learn for newcomers, and perfect character editor. But most important of all is that Soulcalibur VI is really interesting to play. | Read review |
Areajugones | Álvaro Giménez | 8 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | This new installment of Soul Calibur feels like a kind of reebot, a return to the beginning of the saga where the fight is not only important, but also the universe created around the characters under a gameplay that involves a return to the beginnings, offering a much more technical and entertaining title than in other occasions. | Read review |
Atomix | Miguel Reyes | 85 / 100 | 10-25-2018 | Leaving aside the fact that its a reboot from the series, Soulcalibur VI es a great fighting game that retains most of the elements that have made the franchise one of the best among the genre. Yes, it doesnt add many novelties to the gameplay formula and some modes lack some charm, but nevertheless, its an awesome game worth your money and time, more if you love fighting games. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Jelani James | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur 6 is a brilliant return to form for the series, combining a robust single-player campaign and intense, dynamic combat to bring the franchise to a level it hasn’t been at in years. It’s time to leave your mark on history once again. | Read review |
Bazimag | Hamidreza Ghaneei | 8 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a pleasant remake of the first SoulCalibur. Fluid combat and diverse set of characters has brought an enjoyable experience both for old fans and the new audience. There are some problems with storytelling but you can’t usually expect a great story from fighting games due to their nature. if you’re looking for genuine and nifty gameplay, eyecatching visuals and an epic soundtrack, right now SoulCalibur VI is your best pick. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Manuel Barthes | 8.2 / 10 | 10-16-2018 | The return of SoulCalibur to the current console generation is impressive, versatile and full of action. Through numerous features, Bandai Namco wants to appeal to both, veterans and newcomers, which succeeds for the most part. Even if the extensive history around the Soul Edge knows how to inspire, what remains is a stale aftertaste to the detriment of the new combat mechanics. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Remington Joseph | 8 / 10 | 10-22-2018 | Soul Calibur VI revives a series that may have been lost to time by learning from what worked best and introducing creative and unique mechanics to its already solid gameplay. | Read review |
Chalgyr’s Game Room | Nick Herber | 8.8 / 10 | 10-25-2018 | While SoulCalibur VI probably will not be a top title in the eSports fighting scene, it has a solid enough online presence that should provide plenty of competitive gameplay. That being said, too often the fighting genre relies too heavily on online competition to give their games longevity. Kudos to the development team here for creating an incredibly robust single player experience that is worth coming back to time and again. | Read review |
Cheat Code Central | Jenni Lada | 4.7 / 5 stars | 10-17-2018 | Soulcalibur VI’s strengths lie in its willingness to cater to the people who will be playing it. This is a game that makes it easy for people of all skill levels to hop in and find a mode that suits them. | Read review |
COGconnected | Michael Chow | 85 / 100 | 10-17-2018 | As a reboot to the series’ story, Soulcalibur VI is interesting and accessible to all players. | Read review |
Critical Hit | Geoffrey Tim | 8.5 / 10 | 10-18-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a grand return to form for a fighting game series that’s been overstuffed for decades. It’s simple to play, tough to master, and incredibly fun. The best the series has been since SoulCalibur2, the game doesn’t do much new. Instead, it adeptly refines something we’ve played before to deliver one of the most enjoyable fighting games in years. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Az Elias | 8 / 10 | 05-06-2019 | SoulCalibur VI certainly has plenty of issues, like a lack of extra modes, a few visuals blemishes, the somewhat unimpressive Reverse Edge move, and the usual greedy attitude towards DLC. Nevertheless, it’s also a highly entertaining, high-octane fighter that can be enjoyed by greenhorns and veterans alike, as well as being a more than decent revival of the franchise. | Read review |
Cultured Vultures | Ashley Bates | 9 / 10 | 10-16-2018 | Gripes with Tira notwithstanding, Soulcalibur VI exists in its own special pantheon when it comes to current generation 3D fighters. Even if you’re not usually a SC fan, consider this your jumping on point. | Read review |

Destructoid | Chris Carter | 8.5 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | I still remember sitting down for the first time to play Soulcalibur on the Dreamcast and hearing Jeff Manning’s voice echo across the room. This is a larger-than-life series that deserves a lot of love and care from its creator: and with VI, it got it. The recent documentary that openly acknowledges the past faults of the series gives me hope that Bandai Namco is going to right the Soulcalibur ship. | Read review |
Digiato | Arash Parsapour | 79 / 100 | 11-05-2018 | If you’re into fighting games, you don’t want to miss SoulCalibur VI especially because its online multiplayer mode doesn’t have all the headaches of Tekken 7. Also fights are quite fun enough to enjoy. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Steven McGehee | 9 / 10 | 06-04-2018 | On the whole, Soulcalibur VI does an excellent job of advancing the series while also stay true to its roots. Character creation, two new battle mechanics, new playable characters, two story modes, online play — there’s a lot of meat here for fight-hungry fans to dive into and it’s crafted and presented with the skill we’ve come to know from Project Soul. | Read review |
Digitally Downloaded | Matt Sainsbury | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-17-2018 | Because it is so accessible and enjoyable, I suspect that Soulcalibur VI will become one of my most played fighting games, because it’s just that versatile and enjoyable that I’ll just default to it when I’m in the mood for a fighter (or looking to play with someone else). | Read review |
DualShockers | Lou Contaldi | 9.5 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is undoubtedly one of the finest fighting games of this generation, and one worth exploring even if you can’t get into the broader fighting genre. With rich and complex campaign modes and robust gameplay, SoulCalibur VI is a game I will return to for years to come. | Read review |

EGM | Mollie L Patterson | 8 / 10 | 10-19-2018 | Soulcalibur VI feels like a game that’s fighting to make a comeback in a world where it isn’t sure it’s welcome anymore, and the downside of that is that many of its parts feel like they were under-developed to keep costs low. However, much more important is the upside, which is that a fantastic fighting game series has finally come back to us, and it’s still just as good as we all remember. | Read review |
Electric Bento | Drew Meadows | 8.6 / 10 | 10-24-2018 | The new mechanics of SOULCALIBUR VI don’t overshadow the true refinement done to the series. It’s easy to get lost in slamming buttons, but even easier to want to learn each character’s moves. | Read review |

Gameblog | Jonathan Bushle | 8 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a solid fighting game that offers good mechanics and a lot of content to enjoy some legendary fights with weapons. GameCrate | Angelo D’Argenio | 7.5 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | If you just want a fun 3D fighting game with no extras, then Soulcalibur VI is the grand revival of the franchise you have been waiting for. Gamefa | Aria Moghadam | 8.6 / 10 | 10-18-2018 | And finally Bandai Namco has came back with one of its most liked series and most-anticipated games. SoulCalibur VI is here… It is a mixture of all that we like about a good fighting game. The fights are simple, accessible, fast and deep, and the visuals are good enough to make you satisfied. The only boring part is the slow paced and uninteresting storytelling with a lot of texts and long conversations that a fighting game doesn’t need too much. If not The Best, SoulCalibur VI is definitely one of the best fighting games of 2018. | Read review |
GameMAG | Azzy | 8 / 10 | 10-19-2018 | The Project Soul team tried to collect all the best from the previous games in the series into one and made some nice improvements in SoulCalibur VI. I want to believe that SoulCalibur has returned, and this time for a long time. | Read review |

Gaming Nexus | Russell Archey | 8.5 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | For someone with little Soul Calibur experience before now, I feel that Soul Calibur VI can be a pretty good starting point for someone to the series. The tutorial in Mission Mode will help you learn the basics and you can always look up more advanced moves and techniques for any character at almost any time. GamingBolt | Will Borger | 9 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a statement game from Project Soul that does almost everything right. GamingTrend | Lawrence Le | 75 / 100 | 10-27-2018 | SoulCalibur VI’s combat could crack even the toughest case of fighting game-phobia; it’s strategic, fluid, and deep, but remains as accessible as ever. It’s unfortunate that it’s hampered by a lack of interesting modes, and that its hefty single-player offerings attempt to shift the focus away from the robust combat system and towards stale, cumbersome stories. | Read review |

PlayStation LifeStyle | Paulmichael Contreras | 8.5 / 10 | 10-22-2018 | Soulcalibur VI is a solid entry in the long-running fighting franchise. The new Reversal Edge mechanic gives everyone a chance at a comeback, with a balanced risk that their move may backfire on the player who invoked the move. A decent campaign is paired with a beefier custom story mode, to provide for dozens of hours of gameplay, even if most of the cutscenes are more visual novel than actual cutscene. Barebones online options may leave some players wanting more, but getting to the action is as quick as ever because of a sharp focus. Press Start | James Berich | 8 / 10 | 10-21-2018 | With robust single-player offerings, as well as a fast paced and dynamic fighting system, Soulcalibur VI represents the best the series has been for a long time. It has a great and diverse roster of characters, and Geralt fits right into the world too. It’s just a little bit of a shame that it’s missing a few things from previous games. PSX Brasil | Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho | 95 / 100 | 10-21-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is an excellent fighting game and it reignites the flame of this wonderful series. The gameplay is fantastic and the online mode is also very good. The single-player mode has plenty of content and the character-creation mode continues to please. Geralt was a great choice of a guest character, too. The negative point goes to the story mode told in the form of text or dialogues (it lacks the production that Tekken 7 received). Other negative points are the absence of some fan favorite characters, and the few new ones (only two, besides Geralt). | Read review |

Slant Magazine | Justin Clark | 4 / 5 stars | 10-19-2018 | In the end, there’s a purity to how SoulCalibur VI is so focused above all else on its spectacular swordplay and world building. | Read review |
Softpedia | Silviu Stahie | 7.5 / 10 | 11-06-2018 | All in all, Soulcalibur VI is fun, despite all of its problems, and I think it’s all that matters in a fighting game. If we also take into account the developer’s propensity to bring in characters from other games, such as The Witcher or Sonic, it moves the game to another meta-level. And that’s definitely something that players will want. | Read review |
SomHráč.sk | Martin Kubeš | 90 / 100 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is an excellent fighting game and one of the best entries in the franchise. If you’ve avoided the franchise until now, you should change that. There might not be another opportunity. | Read review |
TechRaptor | Robert Grosso | 7 / 10 | 10-21-2018 | SoulCalibur VI as a fighting game is all style over substance. While it retains most of its tactical combat it is easily the most user-friendly title in the series and for some longtime fans, that may be more discouraging than a return to form. | Read review |
The Digital Fix | Stephen Hudson | 8 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | With a polished fighting system, deep story mode, and buckets of content, Soul Calibur VI is easily one of the best fighting games of the generation. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Gian Filippo Saba | 8.3 / 10 | 10-16-2018 | SoulCalibur VI offers lots of hours of fun, and not just online. Some interesting additions to the gameplay and the new characters make the gaming experience fresh and varied, even if some animation risks to break the flow of combat. Had it not been for the rather unpleasant decision to block Tira as a Season Pass bonus, Project Soul’s latest work would have had very few things to complain about. | Read review |
The Outerhaven Productions | De’Angelo Epps | Recommended | 10-26-2018 | All in all SoulCalibur VI is an amazing package with more character content on the way sure to keep any player having a good time. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Dominic Leighton | 7 / 10 | 10-17-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a fantastic looking entry in the series, but beyond that feels like something of a missed opportunity. The core combat remains as vibrant, weighty and enjoyable as ever, but the Reversal Edge adds in an element of chance that feels at odds with what most fighting games set out to achieve. The two interminably dull story modes don’t help either, with players left to rely on the the straightforward arcade and online modes for their kicks. | Read review |
Too Much Gaming | Miguel Samson | 9 / 10 | 10-18-2018 | Soulcalibur VI delivers newcomers and old-time fans alike a double serving: it’s a solid 3D fighter that will surely keep one’s fighting game community busy for months to come, and a single-player experience chock-full of things to do thanks to two lengthy single-player campaigns and an absorbing Character Creation mode. | Read review |
TrueAchievements | Kevin Tavore | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-25-2018 | I’d recommend this to anyone with even a passing interest in the fighting genre, and especially to those like me who just want a fighting game that’s fun to play. | Read review |
TrueGaming | حسين الموسى | 9 / 10 | 10-23-2018 | SoulCalibur VI has solid gameplay, varied modes and contents, and a great customization/creation options. this is one of the best fighting games in this generation. | Read review |
Twinfinite | Hayes Madsen | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-19-2018 | Without a doubt, this is the very best place for newcomers to jump on, but there’s still plenty of depth for vetaran fans. In all respects, from the guest character to the presentation and new mechanics, this is the best that SoulCalibur has been in a long time. It’s not just one of the best fighting games of the year, it’s one of the best games of the year, period. | Read review |
USgamer | Mike Williams | Recommended | 10-18-2018 | Soulcalibur 6 comes as a strong package simply by offering the modes we’ve come to expect from the series. | Read review |
VG247 | Alex Donaldson | Recommended | 10-17-2018 | Get some friends, some beers, some button mashing and some toe-curlingly tight encounters and you’ll find the spirit of the original alive and well – and that’s all that matters in the end. | Read review |
VGChartz | Nicholas Taylor | 7 / 10 | 12-05-2018 | SoulCalibur VI is a fresh game which also hits the nostalgia chords very well. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 7.8 / 10 | 10-20-2018 | After all is said and done, there’s no denying that SoulCalibur VI’s core gameplay is solid while offering some fresh mechanics. | Read review |

It’s hard not to recommend, especially when there’s so much for all kinds of players to enjoy. Give SoulCalibur VI a try, it’s great fun. | Read review |
We Got This Covered | Brad Long | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-22-2018 | Soulcalibur VI is an excellent fighter that takes the 2.5D fighter further into the 3D realm. Great characters and interesting lore provide an unforgettable single-player experience, while multiplayer is just as great, thanks to a deep, yet accessible, fighting system. | Read review |
