“Another gorgeous looking first party PS5 game, with some fun and imaginative platforming, but even with four players at once it lacks that certain spark that would’ve made it a true launch essential.”
Chris Carter (Destructoid)

“Bring your family and friends into your Sackboy: A Big Adventure playthrough and have a blast. Or play by yourself. It doesn’t really matter, as Sumo Digital has once again tapped into the essence of what makes this series so special. It’s innocent, it’s fun, and it feels unique. We need more games like it, even if they don’t push the genre forward…which is by no means a requirement.”

“Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a delightful platformer that mostly does a great job despite coloring inside the lines and staying a bit too easy most of the time.”

33bits | Euyen Esquefa Pons | 80 / 100 | 11-24-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a great adventure game. With some really charismatic supporting characters, and very varied levels, it is a totally recommended game if we are fans of this type of proposal, rounded off by some excellent graphic and sound sections. | Read review |
Atomix | Alberto Desfassiaux | 90 / 100 | 11-14-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an amazing 3D platforming game. A must have for the PS5. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Diego Perez | 4 / 5 stars | 11-16-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is dripping with charm and makes excellent use of the DualSense controller. | Read review |
AusGamers | KostaAndreadis | 7 / 10 | 11-16-2020 | On the topic of shiny stuff, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is beautiful and the added power of the PlayStation 5 hardware has led to the materials found throughout the arts-and-craft world to look and often behave like the real thing. The blend of fantasy with everyday objects gels wonderfully with the soundtrack too, giving the experience a feel that is more than a simple riff on classic 3D platforming. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Mohammad Talebian | 8 / 10 | 02-23-2021 | Sackboy A Big Adventure goes out if its way to be a Nintendo-like platformer, and almost gets it right if not for a few small but costly mistakes. It's still a very good game, but could have even been better if the developers focused more on their own ideas. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Gabriel Bogdan | 8 / 10 | 11-16-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the ideal launch title for kids or local co-op rounds with your kids and friends. Also the Soundtrack and the precise controls are amazing, even if the game often lacks some creativity and the story ended up to be pretty generic. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Zubi Khan | 7.5 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | At the end of its yarn, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a fun romp through a craft-inspired world that feels as if it was cut from the same cloth as something like Yoshi’s Crafted World, rather than LittleBigPlanet, however, this is not a bad thing, especially for those looking for a traditional platforming experience. Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a content-rich platformer that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age and is a worthy addition to the PlayStation 5 launch line-up. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Tom Quirk | 9 / 10 | 11-22-2020 | Nearing the end of an undeniably stressful year, the sheer adorableness and relaxing charm of Sackboy: A Big Adventure is exactly what I needed. | Read review |
Chicas Gamers | Sandra Sánchez | Recommended | 11-24-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a platformer game with some little traditional mechanics that will catch all your attention. You can play with children, with friends or familly in some several levels, but if you prefer you can play alone. The plot is simple and enjoyable and the music will accompany Sackboy during the scenaries. You can't miss this videogame! | Read review |
COGconnected | Paul Sullivan | 80 / 100 | 11-30-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure represents a nearly forgotten genre of game, and represents it in fine fashion. Competent if not revolutionary platforming propels Sackboy through a stunning world full of fun set pieces and clever writing, while an approachable challenge level opens the experience to all skill levels. It’s about having fun, and Sackboy’s first full adventure absolutely succeeds. | Read review |
Critical Hit | Geoffrey Tim | 8.5 / 10 | 11-24-2020 | A delightfully charming platformer, Sackboy:A Big Adventure untethers the knitted knight from the creation-focused LittleBigPlanet and gives him his own grand adventure. In doing so, Sumo Digital has delivered one of the most thoughtful, interesting, and love-laden platformers in recent memory, resulting in a perpetual delight. | Read review |
Daily Mirror | JC Suttun | 4 / 5 stars | 11-18-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure isn't a particularly revolutionary platformer, replicating a structure seen many times in the likes of the latter Rayman titles and so on. But what it does, it does with panache and bags of charm that will appeal to kids and the parents who'll end up joining them for co-op. The woolly protagonist's latest outing is something that fans of the franchise | Read review |

Digitally Downloaded | Matt Sainsbury | 3.5 / 5 stars | 11-13-2020 | I don't want to take anything away from Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Platformers are one of the genres I am least inclined towards, and were it not part of a (fairly limited) launch range on the PlayStation 5, I might not have been inclined to play Sackboy at all. I am glad that I did, though, because for pure whimsy and quality level design it's a real challenge to Nintendo at its best in this genre, and that's no mean feat. Just don't go in expecting the same qualities that made the LittleBigPlanet series itself so beloved. | Read review |

EGM | Josh Harmon | 8 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure may not have the most memorable hook or world, but it's a strong, generous, and unexpectedly deep platformer bolstered by a wonderful use of music. | Read review |

Everyeye.it | Giuseppe Arace | 7.7 / 10 | 11-15-2020 | Sackboy is a party to which everyone is invited: a colorful and fun platformer, rich in content and with a level of difficulty suitable for a very young audience. It suffers from a rhythm that is not always well balanced, and from a dilation of content that does not allow the adventure to maintain a homogeneous quality standard for its entire duration. Without shining for originality, Sumo Digital's work still offers some decidedly remarkable stylistic flicks, with musical levels and a great deal of customization capable of soaring over the rest of the offer. Ultimately, Sackboy is an outspoken and genuine platformer, "tailor-made" for fans of the genre. | Read review |
Explosion Network | Dylan Blight | 7.5 / 10 | 12-03-2020 | With vibrant levels, varying objectives and co-op play, this is a must-own PS5 launch title. Hopefully, this is just the beginning for Sumo Digital, and we'll see an even bigger adventure for Sackboy soon. | Read review |
Game Informer | Jeff Cork | 8 / 10 | 11-12-2020 | Cleverly designed levels offer moderately tough challenges, but generous checkpoints and a genial atmosphere make it easy to keep coming back | Read review |
Game Revolution | Jason Faulkner | 4 / 5 stars | 11-19-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a competent platformer with tight controls. However, the generic craft theme and lack of memorable characters prevent it from being outstanding. The 3D platforming genre is filled to the brim with classics, and to stand out, a game has to do more than just be playable. There are plenty of costumes to collect and bits and baubles to pick up throughout levels, but Sackboy lacks that hook that’ll keep gamers coming back. | Read review |
Gameblog | Thomas Pillon | 6 / 10 | 11-12-2020 | Sackboy : A Big Adventure is a beautiful yet very classic platformer. Sumo Digital delivers a decent game mostly made for children : with a repetitive gameplay and a lack of real challenge, it still offers to a younger audience an unharmful and colorful adventure. Too bad the DualSense wasn't used more on PS5. | Read review |
GameGrin | Gary Sheppard | 9 / 10 | 02-01-2021 | A brilliantly accessible and clever platformer with a top-notch soundtrack. This is a must-have title for any PlayStation owner who likes platformers. | Read review |
GameMAG | Unknown | 8 / 10 | 11-28-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a great family-friendly platformer, that makes good use of DualSense unique properties, but also features some really memorable, dense, and original levels. The only drawbacks here are mandatory blue sphere collection and co-op only worlds that you can't complete solo without any friends or family members. | Read review |

GameSpew | Richard Seagrave | 9 / 10 | 11-11-2020 | Having been in possession of the game for just over 24 hours at the time of writing, we’ve still got a lot to see and do in Sackboy: A Big Adventure – we’ve only reached the second of its worlds so far. At this point though, we can safely say that we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it – it’s gone above and beyond our expectations. It appears to be an immaculately made 3D platformer with huge amounts of charm. We’ll follow up with a full review once we’ve put considerably more time into it, but we think it’s safe to say that if you’re picking it up alongside your PS5, you’re going to be in for a very good time. | Read review |

GamingTrend | Ben Lombardo | 85 / 100 | 11-19-2020 | Sackboy is the perfect launch title to initiate young children into the next generation of games, as well as provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone else. Even though it launches with a hefty price tag, the amount of content this game has to offer more than covers its cost. Plus, you can either play this one with or without friends, and it will undoubtedly entertain all for hours. The mixture of fantastic level design, coupled with a great soundtrack, will reignite that lost feeling of childhood happiness. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Chris White | 9 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure features some great platforming across gorgeous levels, with plenty to do and collect along the way. The music is a lovely touch to a rich and fulfilling adventure, and playing with others is the best way to enjoy it. | Read review |
GotGame | David Poole | 8.5 / 10 | 12-23-2020 | While I didn’t have as great a time with Sackboy: A Big Adventure as I did Astro’s Playroom, this was still a fun time. It’s definitely a much longer platformer, and it offers a lot more challenge as well. It doesn’t take as much advantage of the DualSense controller on PlayStation 5, but this is likely due to the game being available on PlayStation 4 as well. Either way, Sackboy is still a strong platformer for friends and families to play together this holiday season. The levels are diverse, the music is catchy, and the charm is excellent. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Kevin Dunsmore | 4 / 5 stars | 11-12-2020 | Sackboy’s legacy was always tied to LittleBigPlanet and its creation tools. Media Molecule no doubt created a PlayStation icon, but he always played second fiddle to the tools. That perception is no more thanks to Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Sumo Digital has successfully excised Sackboy from the creation tools and given him his own platforming game. The game is gushing with character and charm thanks to its wide array of imaginative levels. The transition to 3D platforming has allowed for more precise and varied gameplay, providing a solid level of fun for players of all ages. As a PS5 launch title, the game delivers a colorful and detailed presentation, though it remains no slouch on PS4. The story isn’t anything special and chocked to the brim with cliches, but a solid voice cast combined with great level design will keep you playing the entire length. While playable solo, Sackboy is best when played co-op, and unfortunately at launch, co-op options are limited. As a complete experience, though, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a fun platforming adventure that’ll leave you with a smile on your face. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | David Martinez | 78 / 100 | 11-12-2020 | Sackboy is a fun adventure for everyone, easy to play and difficult to master, and it also works as a demonstration of some Dualsense capabilities, but we miss the creative side of Little Big Planet and more unique mechanics (such as the musical levels). | Read review |

IGN Italy | Giovanni Marrelli | 8 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | Sumo Digital's new game is a colorful and fun adventure that brings back Sackboy, allowing players to explore new worlds, each based on different themes and gameplay mechanics. A great game for Christmas to spend some time along with your family, thanks to the 4-player co-op mode. | Read review |

INDIANTVCZ | Petr Duppal | 8 / 10 | 11-27-2020 | Sackboy has never been cuter, and in short, thanks to the added full-fledged story, you see him as the little hero who can do impossible things. The game takes a recommendation of 8 points and is another great family exclusive game, which we simply missed on PlayStation. | Read review |
JVL | Malcolm89 | 7 / 10 | 11-18-2020 | Keeping the cute side that made the success of his first albums, Sackboy: A Big Adventure finally meets the expectations of those looking for a nice little game to spend time with their offspring. But players accustomed to the sure values of the genre will regret the lack of challenge and memorable passages that remain in the lead several hours after a game. It is to be hoped for the future of the franchise that it will stop relying on the recipes of the success of its past to innovate as it had done in the era of PlayStation 3. | Read review |
KeenGamer | Adam Conner | 8.5 / 10 | 11-27-2020 | I'm very happy to see Sackboy back in action with Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and what better way than a PS5 launch title that plenty of gamers will play. Few modern PlayStation mascots hold a candle to this loveable ball of yarn. On their second attempt, did Sumo Digital succeed in creating a great exclusive? | Read review |
Kotaku | Mike Fahey | Recommended | 11-17-2020 | For those with cleaner children than mine, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is exactly the sort of non-threatening video game that’s perfect for family game night. It’s charming, with a kid-friendly story and forgiving gameplay that won’t result in ugly tears. It might even inspire someone to one day work at a Michael’s or Joanne’s. | Read review |
LevelUp | Pedro Pérez Cesari | 7.5 / 10 | 11-24-2020 | A fun and well designed platformer that lacks the charm to make a long standing impact. You should try it if you want a good and family friendly game for PlayStation. | Read review |
M3 | Raphael Cano Felix | 6 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure scraps creation mode from the main series to focus wholeheartedly on platform hopping. Some courses such as the rhythm-based are brilliant, but despite the improved control, the vast majority are too light and slow for the experienced player. And in addition to the Dual Sense features, there are also no real "next gen" details that stand out. | Read review |
Metro GameCentral | GameCentral | 7 / 10 | 11-13-2020 | Another gorgeous looking first party PS5 game, with some fun and imaginative platforming, but even with four players at once it lacks that certain spark that would've made it a true launch essential. | Read review |

PlayStation LifeStyle | Chandler Wood | 9.5 / 10 | 11-23-2020 | In terms of PS5 launch titles, Sackboy: A Big Adventure didn’t make headlines as a highly anticipated game, but it manages to be one of the most charming and fun PS5 games so far. Its heart was an unexpected delight, with a level of detail and polish that made it an absolute joy to play. Snipped free of the level creation side of LBP, Sackboy manages to swingamajig his way to platforming heights that the character never has before, in more detail than ever on PS5. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | John-Paul Jones | 9.5 / 10 | 11-13-2020 | An astounding triumph of imagination, Sackboy: A Big Adventure isn't just one of the best platformers ever made, it's also a proper highlight of the PlayStation 5 launch line-up that is steeped in such fun and free wheeling creativity, that it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as other PlayStation platforming heroes such as Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank. | Read review |

Press Start | Kieron Verbrugge | 8 / 10 | 11-13-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the hessian hero's best outing yet. Tighter platforming controls and a fresh perspective go a long way to reinvigorating the franchise, and it helps that the whole thing is positively stuffed with charm from beginning to end. Levels that feel lonely when played solo, and worse, levels that aren't accessible at all in single player dampen the experience, but not enough for platforming fans to dismiss it. If you've just brought home a shiny new PlayStation 5 there's also a lot here to showcase what the console is capable of in both visuals and the user experience, making it well worth considering as part of your launch library. Viva la Sackboy! | Read review |

Push Square | Sammy Barker | 8 / 10 | 11-15-2020 | There's a lot of love been poured into Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and thus it's hard not to love it back. This is a brilliant platformer with tons of imaginative ideas and a strong sense of style. The lack of online multiplayer at launch is a bit disappointing, but it's coming as a free update before the end of the year, so we can forgive the developer that. If you're looking for something bright and breezy to begin your PS5 journey, then this is a near-flawless romp when it's at its pomp. | Read review |

Shacknews | Chris Jarrard | 7 / 10 | 11-18-2020 | Sumo Digital has done a wonderful job bringing the visual aesthetic of the LittleBigPlanet franchise into a 3D platforming world. The levels are a delight to look at and shine brightly when paired with a top-shelf display. The various outfits and visual customizations that can be sewn onto Sackboy also look fantastic. I ended up using a Yak outfit I bought early in the game for the rest of my playthrough as I simply couldn’t get enough of how delightfully stupid it looked. When it comes to gameplay and story, it is fair to say that we’ve seen it all before, and usually done better. The main appeal here is to rehash old material with a 4K, leather-and-corduroy-upholstered refresh. If that sounds like a good time, Sackboy is sure to please, but it will leave other PS5 owners wondering when next-gen will actually show up. 7/10 yak outfits | Read review |
Sirus Gaming | Jem Sagcal | 8 / 10 | 11-19-2020 | While definitely the annoying types of glitches, it takes away only little to what we can still find enjoyable as we progress. It can either be our competitive spirit or our ambition to fully complete the game that drives us from it’s faults — but it can also be the type of errors that can take away a player’s own likeability with the game if it continues. | Read review |

The Games Machine | Stefano Calzati | 8 / 10 | 11-16-2020 | Sackboy: A Great Adventure is perhaps the real surprise of the PS5 debut. A solid platformer as expected from Sumo, which knows where to draw inspiration from and how to reinvent it, as if they were true game design restorers. Simple and very smooth from start to finish, but a good challenge to bring to full completion, with all its collectibles and challenges that enhance a level design that is not at all trivial and that always strives to do something different to make each stage a unique gaming experience. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Stefan L | 7 / 10 | 11-11-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure starts off slow, feeling like a hollow reflection of the franchise, but eventually grows into its new 3D platforming elements. It’s the perfect game to pick up with your PlayStation 5 to give the whole family a reason to crowd around the next generation console. Too Much Gaming | Carlos Hernandez | 9 / 10 | 12-23-2020 | We know how crazy 2020 has been, but out of all the games I've played this year, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was the one I didn’t know I needed. It’s a fantastic platformer that appeals to players of all ages. You may feel uplifted, or encouraged, even. The game doesn’t reinvent the wheel for its genre, but the impressive execution, clever ideas, and extra effort behind this platformer proves that the world of Sackboy is a fun place to visit, and that the polish done to every aspect of the game makes it a must-buy for any enthusiast that owns a PS4 and PS5. | Read review |

Wccftech | Kai Powell | 8.6 / 10 | 01-06-2021 | Sackboy's first foray outside of the Media Moleculeverse without an editor to guide his way is not only a fantastic 3D platformer for all ages but also one of the best PlayStation 5 launch titles for younger audiences | Read review |
WellPlayed | Dylan Blereau | 8.5 / 10 | 11-17-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a thoroughly entertaining 3D platformer that is a joy to see, hear and play | Read review |
ZTGD | Ken McKown | 7.5 / 10 | 12-01-2020 | Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a charming game that I was smiling while playing almost entirely. It will likely get lost amonth after the Spider-Man and Astro Bot mainstays, but this game is more than worth checking out. Especially for those looking for something to play with their family and friends. It is a whimsical adventure that finally makes me enjoy a game featuring Sackboy, and that is a win in and of itself. | Read review |
