Mario Party Superstars is an amalgamation of some of the best boards, minigames, mechanics, and quality of life improvements from the whole series, resulting in the best Mario Party has been in a very long time.
Whether you grew up with these games or this is your first time partying, Mario Party Superstars is a fun way to celebrate the series.
But in the end, despite its value for video game preservation and appreciation, Mario Party Superstars is more than that. It’s a collection of Mario Party’s best work, perfect for veteran partiers, newcomers, and everyone in-between.

Areajugones | David Cruz | 9 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Little more to say: the best Mario Party Superstars simply for having what the saga lacked, its online multiplayer! | Read review |
Atomix | Alberto Desfassiaux | 85 / 100 | 10-28-2021 | It doesn't really matter if you never played the past of Mario Party, you will also find a lot of value, especially if you have someone to share it with because in fact, I think this new installment of Switch comes at the perfect time for the holiday season that is about to start. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Elliott Gatica | 4 / 5 stars | 11-02-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is a blast from the past put into a very clean and modern package. It'll definitely be more appealing to older generations of gamers who grew up before the early 2000s. The minigames and maps have aged well and showcase moments that truly defined the Mario Party franchise more than 20 years later. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Jason Flatt | 8.5 / 10 | 10-30-2021 | If you’re a longtime Mario Party fan, you will love Mario Party Super Stars. If you’ve never played a Mario Party, there’s no better time than now to get into it. By yourself, on the couch, or online with friends or strangers, every way to play is a blast and then some. Some menu things are a bit annoying and I wish there was were a couple more characters or stages or mini-games to unlock. But in all, Mario Party is back, baby. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Julian Bieder | 8.4 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Looking back at it roots, Mario Party Superstars brings back some of the biggest joys from the Nineties. A wide selection of the best minigames and classic boards originally debuting on the Nintendo 64 surely will satisfy everbody's nostalgia. On the downside it feels like there's content lacking, since there are only five playable boards, no overarching story and nothing worthwile to unlock. As soon as the nostalgia wears off, this Mario Party almost feels... incomplete. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Dayna Eileen | 8 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Mario Party Superstars somehow manages to entertain and impress while bringing almost nothing new to the table aside from some annoying stickers and appreciated save features. Nintendo knows the road to success is nostalgia, and they manage to use it to hit the mark every time. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Unknown | 7 / 10 | 10-29-2021 | ...Superstars hasn’t added anything new to the series. The minigame modes aren’t very exciting, and the visuals, while nice, aren’t different from any other Mario game from the past few years. It’s definitely a great way to experience those classic N64 boards, as long as you don’t expect anything more. | Read review |
COGconnected | James Paley | 70 / 100 | 10-28-2021 | The game looks modern, but feels more like a classic entry in the franchise. If the thing you were missing was frustration and elation in equal measure, then yours will be a rich bounty indeed. For better and for worse, this is a heaping helping of the cruel whimsy you remember so well. Mario Party Superstars is a glamorous trip down cherished paths you’ve mostly blocked from your memory. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Jorge Ba-oh | 9 / 10 | 10-30-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is a comeback tour for the series, a love letter to frantic marathon runs and celebrates Mario Party in a truly spectacular way. Daily Mirror | James Ide | 4 / 5 stars | 10-28-2021 | Superstars is a great game to play by yourself but even better with friends and the new online mode make this even easier. The best part is it just feels more like Mario Party as your fortunes can change in the blink of an eye. Mario Party Superstars is a celebration of the early Mario Party Series, featuring some of its most iconic boards and games while also being one of the best in the whole series. | Read review |
Daily Star | Tom Hutchison | 5 / 5 stars | 10-28-2021 | Older players who may remember the original titles will get that nostalgic feel. And even non-gamers will find this easy to enjoy. Great family fun. | Read review |
Destructoid | Eric Van Allen | 8 / 10 | 11-10-2021 | So while Mario Party Superstars doesn’t necessarily break massively new ground, it’s so good at replaying the classics that it will probably be my new go-to for Mario Party fun moving forward. It isn’t just the Nintendo 64 nostalgia talking here; this is a good collection of minigames, a smart board selection, a nice-looking game, and it’s got tons of settings, dials, and options to fiddle with for repeat play sessions. It might not be filled with new ideas, but Mario Party Superstars plays the hits, and plays them as well as it did the first time around. | Read review |
Digital Spy | Jess Lee | 4 / 5 stars | 11-10-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is the strongest outing for the long-running franchise since at least the early GameCube days. It doesn't take many risks and admittedly lacks imagination, but this party leans on nostalgia and understands why these games are so popular among longtime fans. It's a well-executed and highly enjoyable return to the series' roots while remaining largely accessible to first-time players. | Read review |
Digital Trends | Giovanni Colantonio | 4 / 5 stars | 10-28-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is the best game in the series, bringing a better selection of minigames and fewer gameplay gimmicks. | Read review |
Digitally Downloaded | Matt Sainsbury | 4 / 5 stars | 10-29-2021 | There's no doubt that Mario Party Superstars was a hasty project, pulled together to capitalise on the party season and keep the run-rate ticking over for Nintendo with a new release. It's hard not to look at a selection of boards that accounts for just a quarter of what was present in the first three Mario Party titles and not think that this is less a "superstars" package but rather a rather cynical sampler. Still, what is there is excellent quality, and if you've got Christmas parties and family events on the horizon then you will likely get a lot of value out of this game. Just don't spill beer on your controller. They don't make 'em as tough as they were back on the N64. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Andrea Fontanesi | 8 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | If Super Mario Party chose to take the path of timid "next-gen" evolution, Mario Party Superstars takes the opposite, yet complementary, path of amarcord traditionalism. The result is a celebratory episode of fine workmanship, a reasoned selection of some of the most representative tables and minigames of what the franchise has been in its abundant twenty years of existence. | Read review |
Expansive | Jay Jones | Recommended | 11-16-2021 | If you’ve never played a Mario Party game before, this is the perfect jumping on point – celebrating the best the series has to offer. Explosion Network | Dylan Blight | 7.5 / 10 | 11-25-2021 | There are plenty of mini-games here, and they're all fast, and most importantly, fun. There's nothing new here outside of a working online multiplayer, but for fans of the series, that's probably all that's needed anyway. | Read review |

Game Rant | Dalton Cooper | 3.5 / 5 stars | 11-01-2021 | The lack of worthwhile unlockable content is one of the biggest downsides in Mario Party Superstars, but those who are only interested in using it as a party game likely won't be all that disappointed. Mario Party Superstars has fun online multiplayer functionality and makes a number of important quality of life improvements when compared to its predecessor, and so it's still a big step in the right direction for the franchise, despite some of its shortcomings. | Read review |
Gameblog | Yann Bernard | 6 / 10 | 11-02-2021 | This might be the best of Mario Party, completely open online, yet Superstars also highlight the formula's inherent flaws due to a lack of boards, some lingering random elements despite the additional parameters, and the absence of creativity, if not ambition overall. | Read review |

GamingTrend | Richard Allen | 95 / 100 | 11-09-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is the culmination of all that is great about the Mario Party series. Sporting many of the best boards and mini-games pulled from the series' long history and featuring multiple quality-of-life updates including online play, the ability to save and return to a game later, faster gameplay, a variety of different playstyles between the boards, a leveling system, and a ton of items to unlock, Mario Party Superstars may be the best entry yet in the long-running series. Here's hoping Nintendo supports this release and adds new boards in future DLC. | Read review |

Hey Poor Player | Heather Johnson Yu | 4 / 5 stars | 11-04-2021 | Mario Party Superstars brings back the best boards of the first games and the best mini-games of the franchise, updating them with all the mechanics we’ve come to know and love over the course of 23 years. Although it only has 5 boards and a lineup of 10 playable characters, it does a lot right on those boards and with those characters, so it’s hard to complain too much. It’s no cakewalk to rebalance old classics into something fresh and fun, but the team at Nintendo managed to do it. If you’re looking for the best party on the switch, be sure to grab Mario Party Superstars. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | Bruno Sol | 88 / 100 | 10-28-2021 | A hilarious revival of N64 and GC board games and mini-games that proves Nintendo listened to the feedback received after the previous Switch release. Whether you play with friends and family, or via Online, you'll have a blast. Alone, against the AI, you'll have fun with the mini-games, but the board mechanics will bore you. | Read review |

IGN Italy | Biagio Etna | 8 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Mario Party Superstars, with all its limitations, remains an unshakable institution. Revamping the pace of the boards a bit, however, is certainly Nintendo's next priority. | Read review |
IGN Spain | David Oña | 6 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | A new Mario Party is always good news for anyone who likes a few games at home in the company of friends. So, as usual, fun is guaranteed. But this installment gives off a degree of sloppiness that takes it too far away from the latest iteration of the franchise. Its value is subject to the desire you have to rediscover the mini-games it brings back. As a whole, the previous installment is far above. | Read review |

M3 | Raphael Cano Felix | 8 / 10 | 11-20-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is a return to the format that worked best for the series. It brings together some of the very best mini-games over the years on five of the series' most iconic game boards. But best of all – it opens up games no matter what control you may have at home. A must for game meetings in the company of good friends. | Read review |
Merlin'in Kazanı | Samet Basri Taşlı | 77 / 100 | 11-11-2021 | Mario Party Superstars manages to be one of the most entertaining party games by bringing together the most entertaining parts of the old games of the series and providing seamless online support. | Read review |
Metro GameCentral | GameCentral | 8 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Remakes of old N64 Mario Party boards may not sound the most desirable release of the season but in terms of easily accessible party games there are few better options. | Read review |
Nintendo Enthusiast | Andrew Rockett | 8.5 / 10 | 11-01-2021 | Mario Party Superstars ultimately marks a great entry in the franchise, getting back to the basics and building off of the stabilizing force that Super Mario Party provided for the wayward series, while stripping away some other innovations that had found their way into the franchise over the last several entries. This is Mario Party as you remember it – whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you. For me, it’s a great thing – the chaotic board game is back in its full backstabbing glory, with arguably the best minigame roster in the series and full online play from day one. In looking to the past, Mario Party Superstars has taken a much-needed step forward for the series. | Read review |
Nintendo Life | Alex Olney | 8 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is a love letter to the parties you remember attending 20 years ago. A disappointingly slim selection of boards takes the shine off things somewhat, but it's hard to argue that this is the best Mario Party has been in over a decade. No new ideas absolutely feels like a missed opportunity, but by the same token we'd much prefer to have all these classic ideas intact rather than potentially tainting them with unwanted and unnecessary inclusions only added for the sake of being new. Nintendo Wire | Ricky Berg | 8.5 / 10 | 11-09-2021 | While it does a solid job recapturing the magic, that does come with some of the same shortcomings that have lingered within the series for decades. Within this context, though, I’m more willing to accept them. After all, this retro reunion stated pretty clearly what its goal was, and it absolutely hits that mark. No rolling the dice on this one, Mario Party Superstars is a sure thing. | Read review |
NintendoWorldReport | Xander Morningstar | 8.5 / 10 | 01-10-2022 | Such rumblings invoke a greater discussion on whether a sequel should be made with the same or different mini-games, or if this title could now act as a platform for the series. It's a tricky issue, that I don't envy the creators having to face, but the fact of the matter is that NDCube has set a bar for themselves now that they absolutely cannot afford to go under. Whether they continue to remake older, beloved experiences, or take this success as an experience to apply to new, original content, they have won me over with this Mario Party. I suspect this get-together is one for the books. | Read review |
Paste Magazine | Grace Benfell | 7 / 10 | 11-08-2021 | Still, every charm of Mario Party is here, in full force. It's silly, frivolous fun, a perfect way to waste away an evening with friends, local or online. That does sting a little, when one considers the $60 cost, and how much more it could have offered. | Read review |

Press Start | Shannon Grixti | 7.5 / 10 | 10-28-2021 | Mario Party Superstars is a fun, nostalgic ride and will provides hours of fun among groups of friends. Rapid Reviews UK | Peter Beckett | 3.5 / 5 stars | 11-18-2021 | Mario Party is one of those series that has stood the test of time, ever since its introduction on the N64 back in 1998/1999 (depending on where in the world you were). With several different games on each respective system, it has entertained gamers for over 20 years now. So with the Switch being in its fifth year on the market, it is time for another new entry of the iconic series. How does Mario Party Superstars compare to the previous game, Super Mario Party, on the Switch? And is this the return to form that fans of the series have been clamoring for? Let’s roll the dice and find out the result. | Read review |

Screen Rant | William Cennamo | 4.5 / 5 stars | 10-28-2021 | Overall, Mario Party Superstars does exactly what it set out to do: Make the best of the best in the series. There's really nothing new in Mario Party Superstars, but what is here is pure nostalgia and the perfect entry for any player new to the series. | Read review |

Too Much Gaming | Joseph Choi | 7 / 10 | 11-17-2021 | For better or worse, Mario Party Superstars delivers on its promise of bringing the best elements of the classic era of Mario Party to vivid life on the Switch, though even with a variety of gameplay styles and customization options, the formula is showing its age, and the loose combination of RNG and skill-based gameplay won’t be for everyone. | Read review |
