I would recommend Hi-Fi Rush to anyone, even many non-gamers. It’s joyful, addicting and something I may play twice just for the hell of it. An absolute win.
Hi-Fi Rush is a thrilling rhythm game that oozes both style and substance, offering one of the biggest surprise hits in recent memory.
Hi-Fi Rush is a stone-cold stunner, one with gameplay in lockstep with the beat. While finding one’s groove takes some getting used to, those with a keen ear will be in tune in no time flat.

33bits | Juanma F. Padilla | 90 / 100 | 02-01-2023 | Hi-Fi RUSH has been not only a surprise, but a very pleasant surprise. It cannot be hidden that in this writing we have been enthusiastic about the proposal of Shinji Mikami’s team, who has shown with this game a versatility unknown to date. If you like third-person action games and you value the spice of using well-known songs and keeping the action at their own pace, you can’t miss it. | Read review |
3DNews | Алексей Лихачев | 9 / 10 | 02-05-2023 | A wonderful action platformer which appeared out of nowhere and masterfully blended all the good things about this genre. It would be great if our industry surprised us like it happened with Hi-Fi RUSH more often. | Read review |
AltChar | Semir Omerovic | 100 / 100 | 01-26-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush has pretty much everything that makes a video game fun and even more importantly it’s not trying to be overly precise and challenging like many other rhythm-based games. It’s a complete package that hits the right notes over and over again, proving that big publishers should just let developers create games they really want to create. | Read review |
Areajugones | Fran Pérez | 9.5 / 10 | 02-08-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a proposal that has arrived without expecting it and has managed to conquer the hearts of a large part of the public, including myself. We are facing a game of action and rhythm, with areas of platforming, which does almost everything well, which allows us to mostly overlook its small problems, which are already very small. In short, the new Tango Gameworks is a very fresh game that takes us to a fun and action-packed adventure, which is starring characters who, without a doubt, are ready to jump to stardom. | Read review |
Atomix | Sebastian Quiroz | 90 / 100 | 02-02-2023 | Tango Gameworks has done it once again. Hi-Fi Rush a fantastic experience that combines hack and slash with rhythm games spectacularly | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Noah Nelson | Recommended | 01-26-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a bundle of joy so far. I can’t stop tapping my foot while playing it, I genuinely laugh out loud at the jokes, and I’m interested to see where the gameplay and story go next. While you wait for our full review to come out, know that we recommend playing Hi-Fi Rush, especially since it is free to Game Pass subscribers. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Milad Taher Nejad | 9 / 10 | 02-10-2023 | After a lackluster line-up in 2022, Microsoft is back in business with Hi-Fi Rush and you are in for a treat especially if you already have a game pass membership. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Justin Heitman | 8.5 / 10 | 01-28-2023 | Even with its few distracting flaws, almost anyone will find something worthwhile in Hi-Fi Rush. Its seamless integration of rhythm into exploration and combat is met with a harmonious and interesting soundtrack. Colorful, engaging, and funny, anybody will be able to pick up this title easily. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Steve Brieller | 9 / 10 | 02-04-2023 | If you like hack ‘n’ slay games like DMC or Bayonetta in the slightest and are not appalled by the artstyle and the music you have to get Hi-Fi Rush. The game oozes fun, has a great presentation and follows it’s central design ideas throughout the game. All in all Tango Gameworks convinces with its first non horror game and delivers the first surprise hit in 2023. Also petting Robo-cats never gets old. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Khari Taylor | 9.5 / 10 | 02-06-2023 | Hi-Fi RUSH is a highly enjoyable action-adventure fuses the solid, hack n’ slash combat of Devil May Cry with enthralling rhythm-based mechanics, while also blurring the lines between anime and Saturday Morning Cartoons to deliver a larger-than-life protagonist whose story is just as much fun to watch as he is to play. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Charlie Kelly | 9.5 / 10 | 02-03-2023 | Hi-Fi RUSH is a surprise hit for many, but frankly, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Tango Gameworks once more has proven itself to be an immensely talented studio, with showstopping animation and stylish artwork. It’s one of the strongest entries in the character action genre yet, only further bolstered by an accessible focus on music to have you nailing that combo to the catchy beats. It is a joy to see protagonist Chai and his ragtag crew fighting the higher power and see that world grow for what is hopefully not the only time. Every needle-drop moment and thrilling boss fight and encounter all but emphasise one thing: Hi-FI RUSH is magic and already a serious game-of-the-year contender. Rock on. | Read review |
ComingSoon.net | Michael Leri | 9.5 / 10 | 01-30-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush’s combat is nuanced, responsive, and utilizes its musical conceit well to give it its own unique identity. | Read review |
DASHGAMER.com | Dan Rizzo | 9 / 10 | 02-02-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is immediately deemed an essential experience for gamers, lovers of a great hack-and-slash campaign, the rhythm-based connoisseur, or just a button mashing casual that wants to leap into action without cause. Quite possibly, this year’s greatest video game thus far. | Read review |
Destructoid | Cheri Faulkner | 7 / 10 | 02-25-2023 | For someone who also works in music journalism, my skills are shaky, to say the least. But, having taken the time to improve these skills, I now feel better equipped to appreciate the game for what it is: a fun, quirky, sometimes weird, and often cheesy critique of capitalism. When I was less focused on how perfectly I was playing, I had a much better time headbanging through each stage. Just give me a wider variety of music next time and I’m sold. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Nathaniel Stevens | 9 / 10 | 02-03-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush lives up to the hype it has received. It’s a fun experience with a musical backbone that works perfectly with its action platformer roots. Definitely a huge plus for the Xbox family. | Read review |

Eurogamer.pt | Jorge Loureiro | Recommended | 02-02-2023 | The characters are charismatic and humorous. The soundtrack, featuring official songs from Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys, and The Prodigy, is sensational. In the end, there’s no desire to repeat the levels, explore what’s left behind (there are a few doors you can only open after the end of the game), and fine-tune the pace of our combos. Hifi Rush is guaranteed fun. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Riccardo Cantù | 9 / 10 | 07-05-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a bet won by Tango Gameworks. Venturing into unknown terrain, the software house author of The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo brings a light-hearted, stylish and addictive experience to the Microsoft ecosystem. | Read review |
Forbes | Paul Tassi | 9.5 / 10 | 01-28-2023 | I would recommend Hi-Fi Rush to anyone, even many non-gamers. It’s joyful, addicting and something I may play twice just for the hell of it. An absolute win. | Read review |
Fun Factor | Diogo Arez | 9 / 10 | 01-28-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a beautiful cel shaded game that mixes the hack and slash genre with music and rhythmic actions, and while it falters a bit with the pacing and has some frustrating sequences, it’s a delight from start to finish, one I just couldn’t put down. | Read review |
Game Informer | Blake Hester | 8.8 / 10 | 02-01-2023 | Considering the game was announced and released on the same day, Hi-Fi Rush is easily one of the most surprising games of 2023. Part of that is literal. The other, more important part, is just how good the game is. Hi-Fi Rush finds a magical sweet spot between rhythm games, stylish action, and lighthearted, character-driven platformers we don’t see very often anymore, and by every measure, it comes out on top. | Read review |
GameBlast | Maurício Katayama | 8.5 / 10 | 03-04-2023 | Surprising in every way, from its launch model to the unexpected theme for a Tango Networks game, Hi-Fi RUSH is a very successful mix of rhythm game, hack and slash and platform. Creative, pulsating and very fun, it involves the player for its delightful gameplay and the very well-made setting. The impeccable polish can be seen in the graphics, performance, gameplay and soundtrack, not to mention the excellent Portuguese dubbing, one of the best I’ve ever heard. It is an excellent game and highly recommended for lovers of action and rhythm games. | Read review |
Gamefa | Mehdi Reazaei | 9.5 / 10 | 02-01-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is the biggest Xbox surprise of 2023 and even the last few years so far. This game is undoubtedly one of the high-quality AAA titles this year. We can simply claim that we are dealing with a first-class rhythmic Persona, which will make many players interested in the hack and slash genre. Our suggestion? Be sure to play Hi-Fi Rush as soon as possible. | Read review |
Gameffine | Sailesh Singh | Recommended | 02-11-2023 | Very often for AAA games, the hype is built months prior to their official release. There will be story trailers, gameplay footages, interviews with the developers, months of drip-fed content that would build up an idea of what the final product might be. However, very often it so happens that the final product is different from our expectations if not far removed. The game’s actual quality becomes an afterthought in a series of marketing campaigns and publicity cycles. However, when games like Hi-Fi Rush are shadowdropped, the minimalist strategy essentially forces the title to speak for itself. Audiences judge the title on how fun it is to play; it’s the purest test of the product. And Hi-Fi Rush passes this test with flying colors. The love that the ex-Platinum Games developers, now in Tango Gameworks, poured into the game, it shows! It’s got pop-culture references from Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures, Pokemon, Xenogears and even Twin Peaks! | Read review |
GameGrin | Mike Crewe | 9 / 10 | 02-02-2023 | Not only is Hi-Fi RUSH an incredible looking title, it absolutely nails the rhythm action genre with superbly stylish gameplay, and a soundtrack you can’t help but groove to. | Read review |
GameLuster | Nirav Gandhi | 10 / 10 | 02-01-2023 | You can’t see rhythm. No one can. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Whether you can read music or not, whether you’ve mastered an instrument or can’t manage to play Hot Cross Buns, you are a rock star. You may not know it, you probably don’t believe it. But you’ll tightly navigate those progressions, finesse those pull-offs, and slice through those harmonies until you do believe it. Hi Fi Rush is going to make you believe you are a rock star. | Read review |

Inverse | Hayes Madsen | 10 / 10 | 02-02-2023 | I simply can’t imagine not seeing Chai and 808 again, whether it’s in another game or some kind of animated spinoff. As triple-A gaming starts to feel more homogenized each year, Hi-Fi Rush is a stark reminder of how this industry was built on taking chances and experimenting. HiFi Rush is by far my favorite game of the year so far and if that’s indicative of what’s to come from 2023 and Microsoft, I can’t wait to pay. Multiplayer First | Tim Lawrence | 9.5 / 10 | 01-31-2023 | Tango Gameworks made something special here. I think it is my favorite looking game of all time. And while there were a couple of things that I can critique, the whole package of this product is so compelling that I can’t help but recommend everyone at least try it. I don’t imagine that everybody will get into the combat, and some might find it too difficult given the rhythm mechanics, but you should at least see the opening and play through the initial tutorial. If Microsoft was hoping to make a statement by dropping this game out of nowhere, they did a bang up job. Ironically I’m not a huge fan of the name, but Hi-Fi Rush is a shoo-in for my personal top five titles of the year. You should play it. | Read review |

Luscious animations, appealing character designs and a hilarious cast help to elevate this title beyond the level of enjoying for the gameplay alone, I was here for the story too. Polygon | Diego Nicolás Argüello | Recommended | 01-27-2023 | The shadow drop was novel in and of itself, but the game is a triumph. The gorgeous animations and Jet Set Radio-esque art style are vivid and arresting. The array of tutorials, visual aids, and clever mechanics makes the rhythm aspects approachable to genre newcomers. Push Square | Jaimie Ditchfield | 9 / 10 | 03-18-2024 | Hi-Fi Rush is a gorgeous rhythm-action game with a strong cast of characters, addictive gameplay, and an incredible musical score. The game has a ton of replayability with the way its structured, allowing you to improve your timings to perform better in the game’s rhythmic combat. This is an essential title for PS5 owners, and we’re glad Xbox has allowed us to finally experience it. | Read review |
Rock, Paper, Shotgun | Hirun Cryer | Recommended | 02-02-2023 | A brilliant combination of rhythmic motions and a deep action-packed battle system make for a compelling adventure. Hi-Fi Rush is only let down by its writing and character development, or lack thereof. | Read review |
Saudi Gamer | Unknown | 8 / 10 | 03-04-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush may feel like a game from the 7th generation console era, and that’s not to say that it’s outdated–it just has a distinct soul, with a full focus on that super-fun spirit, just like so many games from that era. And this, whether from the comic style of presenting the story or its wonderful and lively combat aspect thanks to its rhythmic aspect, in addition to many enjoyable gameplay moments that made it an experience that he never gets tired of! | Read review |
Screen Rant | Rob Gordon | 4 / 5 stars | 01-30-2023 | Hi-Fi RUSH is an absolute delight. A simple idea that could have been extremely difficult to correctly develop, Hi-Fi RUSH is a real joy to play. Here’s hoping that there are many more brilliant surprises to come this year, as Hi-Fi RUSH sets a high bar. | Read review |
Seasoned Gaming | Patrick Shields | 8 / 10 | 01-28-2023 | For whatever faults it may have, Hi-Fi RUSH is an outstanding game. Not only is it fun to play, it’s a reminder that not every game needs to be something more than it actually is. | Read review |
SECTOR.sk | Matúš Štrba | 8.5 / 10 | 01-31-2023 | A week ago, we didn’t know that something like this was going to happen. Today, it’s hard to get the game out of your mind. Hi-Fi RUSH is a unique mix of fun action and great music, which will put a smile on your face from pure joy. | Read review |
Shacknews | Larryn Bell | 9 / 10 | 02-09-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush delivers energizing gameplay that is smoother than slide guitar. It’s accessible, satisfying, and just pure fun. The touching narrative explores themes of friendship and loyalty, while satirizing corporate culture with an unparalleled wit. Tango Gameworks have knocked it out of the park with their first foray away from the horror game genre and I am eager to see what comes next. | Read review |
Sirus Gaming | Dave Acuna | 9.5 / 10 | 03-04-2023 | We can argue that the game also got some advantage from being shadow-dropped which didn’t give people the chance to set expectations before playing the game, and that it came out in a time when some of the AAA releases had rocky receptions. But personally, I believe that even without these factors, Hi-Fi RUSH would still stand out and be known as the enjoyable game that it is. So kudos to the people behind Hi-Fi RUSH, it was really evident from the game itself that it was a labor of love and I’m glad to see such a game be made in this era. If you haven’t tried out Hi-Fi RUSH yet, I highly recommend that you do; you won’t regret it. | Read review |

SpazioGames | Francesco Corica | 9 / 10 | 07-05-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythmic adventure full of action, humor and love for videogames, which any fan of the genre should never miss out. | Read review |
TechRaptor | Robert Scarpinito | 8.5 / 10 | 02-13-2023 | By masterfully blending rhythm with action combat, Hi-Fi Rush stands out with something unlike any other. Despite some uninspired exploration, the fun writing and flow-ready combat make this more than a one-hit wonder. | Read review |

The Games Machine | Pietro Iacullo | 8.5 / 10 | 01-31-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is what happens when Tango Gameworks unlocks its ancestor DNA, finding ways beyond the Resident Evil-ish production and remembering about Vietiful Joe and that early-2000 mood in video games. Is what happens when Devil May Cry finds about the iPod and the 1 dollar the track music, crafting a maybe little game but with a great rockstar attitude. | Read review |
The Outerhaven Productions | Chris Penwell | 4.5 / 5 stars | 02-09-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush deserves gold record status. The combat is satisfying to pull off, the narrative keeps you intrigued, and the art style is absolutely gorgeous. While the majority of the game is set in a somewhat sterile factory setting, the amount of flair Hi-Fi Rush oozes more than makes up for it. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Dominic Leighton | 9 / 10 | 02-05-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is an utterly beguiling new take on rhythm-action, combining some of this generation’s most impressive visuals with music and mayhem. | Read review |
Tom’s Hardware Italia | Andrea Baiano Svizzero | 90 / 100 | 02-01-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush has proven to be a fun title with extremely satisfying gameplay. It seems almost absurd that a team like Tango Gameworks has managed to package such an experience, but when you look at the historian of legendary producer Shinji Mikami, everything makes sense. Hi-Fi Rush inherits that naïve spirit, totally devoted to fun and gameplay, typical of productions such as Viewtiful Joe and God Hand, of that Clover Studio that was a new home for Mikami and Kamiya after the abandonment of Capcom. Director John Johanas has succeeded in the feat, demonstrating a captivating and well-packaged vision. | Read review |
Too Much Gaming | Carlos Hernandez | 10 / 10 | 02-08-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is one of those gems that only come around once in a blue moon, and while I know 2023 just started, I would without a doubt put Tango Gamework’s latest work as a Game of the Year contender. | Read review |
Use a Potion | Unknown | 9.5 / 10 | 01-30-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is an awesome rhythm-based adventure which looks stunning, feels great to play, and has some amazing music… what else could you want? Whilst I’ll admit that some of the explorative elements of the game didn’t hit the heights seen in the combat and world design, every other aspect of Hi-Fi Rush is just top notch. 2023 was already shaping up to be an exciting year for Xbox thanks to some upcoming high-profile releases, but it’s already started off with one hell of a bang with Hi-Fi Rush. I don’t know how they managed to keep the reveal (and the release) a secret, but Tango Gameworks Softworks have given Xbox fans a real treat with what is easily one of the console’s best exclusive releases. | Read review |
VGC | Jordan Middler | 4 / 5 stars | 01-27-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is oozing with style and confidence, but like a messy first album, there are some deep cut tracks that don’t hit as hard as the opening few hits. What can’t be denied, however, is how excited we are for the sophomore effort, and the seemingly limitless versatility that Tango Gameworks have shown off in this bold, out-of-nowhere joy. | Read review |
VGChartz | Paul Broussard | 7 / 10 | 02-27-2023 | It’s pretty evident this is the team’s first action title in a while | Read review |
WayTooManyGames | Leonardo Faria | 9.5 / 10 | 01-27-2023 | My complaints are very minute. I simply loved Hi-Fi Rush. I just wasn’t expecting for such a banger to drop without any buildup, coming from such a talented team, right at the beginning of the year. It’s a magnificent mixture of tons of games from the mid-2000s, resulting in a unique combination of gameplay styles, sense of humor and visuals that easily stands out from the rest of Microsoft’s current exclusives. | Read review |
Wccftech | Ule Lopez | 9 / 10 | 07-05-2023 | Hi-Fi Rush is a fantastic game that combines two very popular genres and makes a wonderful and innovative game with a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling. The game is both accessible to newcomers to rhythm games and very challenging for veterans looking to be tested in several other areas that don’t necessarily have to do with just rhythm games. The combat is varied, the combos you learn are great to execute, and the music is a joy to listen to. Overall, a great success. | Read review |
We Got This Covered | David James | 5 / 5 stars | 01-30-2023 | One of the most joyous and fun gaming experiences we’ve had in a very long time, ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ combines the best of classics like ‘Jet Set Radio’, ‘Space Channel 5’, and ‘Bayonetta’ into a delectable package that simply can’t be missed. | Read review |
Windows Central | Zachary Boddy | 4.5 / 5 stars | 02-03-2023 | From beginning to end, Hi-Fi RUSH is a rhythmic thrill ride replete with stunning art design, fantastically fun gameplay, and a surprisingly evocative narrative of friendship and determination. | Read review |
Xbox Achievements | Richard Walker | 90 / 100 | 01-30-2023 | Tango Gameworks’ rhythm-based actioner is not only one of the most enjoyable games in years, it’s also one of the most stunningly beautiful, with fantastic music and beat-matching combat to boot. Hi-Fi Rush is, indeed, as its name suggests, a rush. | Read review |
XboxEra | Jesse Norris | 9.5 / 10 | 01-26-2023 | Hi-Fi RUSH came out of nowhere and floored me. It is one of my favorite-looking games, maybe ever. The combat is sublime, the story is great, and the music just works. Tango Gameworks has shifted from making ok to good horror games and created one of my favorite action platformers of all time. | Read review |
