Ender Lilies may be standard Metroidvania through and through, but it rises above most of its peers with an engrossing sense of progression and entertaining combat, all presented in a beautiful package.
Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights does have a few issues. Overall, though, it more than delivers thanks to vibrant visuals, top-notch Metroidvania platforming, and challenging Souls-like combat/
Ender Lilies is one of the finest games of the year. Part Metroidvania and part Soulslike, it manages to deliver in all phases: story, world-building, mechanics, gameplay, value, art, and music.

33bits | Jose Antonio Calvo Ceniceros | 95 / 100 | 06-25-2021 | ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is an excellent game, a fantastic metroidvania, and a great work of design and art. Inspirations and similarities, with their own personality, combats, a lot of exploration, pitfalls and possibilities. A title that cannot be missed unless the reader has a minimum taste for 2D games of this genre, here represented by a very complete, rich title with a commendable artistic invoice. | Read review |
Areajugones | Ronald Goncalves | 9 / 10 | 06-19-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is, in short, a masterpiece within the metroidvanias… and outside of them. Finesterra brings us one of the most memorable epics of the whole year, offering us a decadent universe as tragic as beautiful that perfectly adorns a precise, complex and fun gameplay. In short, an essential acquisition for fans of the genre, for non-followers of the genre and for anyone who wants to give a gift to themselves. Absolute recommendation. | Read review |
Bazimag | Sina Golabzade | 8.5 / 10 | 06-18-2021 | You don’t have to try so hard to find the inspirations that ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights has taken from the most famous Metroidvania and souls-like titles but it’s not a bad thing at all. This is as standard as a video game in this genre gets and thankfully it doesn’t punish you harshly for the mistakes that you make which in turn makes it one of the most fun Metroidvanias in years. | Read review |
Chalgyr’s Game Room | Pierre-Yves Lanthier | 9 / 10 | 06-21-2021 | It’s really hard not to recommend ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights. From brilliant level designs over into a properly evolving gameplay and combat systems only ever supported by great musical arrangements, if there’s one thing any fan of the style should sit down to this year? It should be this. Not a fan of the style? You should give it a go as even without the Souls-esque and Metroidvania nature’s, there’s a solid 2D action adventure platformer just waiting to be explored. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Lisa Pollifroni | 8 / 10 | 07-01-2021 | Although it doesn’t bring many new elements to the Metroidvania table, ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights kept me glued to my controller due to its gorgeous art style and its way of enticing players through exploration. The game is a bit of a contradiction – it’s relaxing yet challenging and damaged yet beautiful. Ultimately though, I very much enjoyed roaming the medieval fantasy world of Land’s End and seeing what spirits would join Lily and help her on her quest to cure The Blighted. | Read review |
COGconnected | Mark Steighner | 87 / 100 | 07-05-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights has been in early access on Steam for quite some time, where it has garnered significant praise, and rightly so. Now coming to consoles and in full release on PC, any fan of games like Hollow Knight, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night or the Dark Souls franchise will enjoy Ender Lilies for its incredible art, mysterious story and action combat. Although it can be a little frustrating, Ender Lilies combat-by-proxy is an interesting and generally successful twist on familiar action mechanics, and the game hits the sweet spot between challenge and accessibility most of the time. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Athanasios | 6 / 10 | 08-15-2021 | ENDER LILLIES: Quietus of the Knights is the definition of sky-high potential gone to waste. At first it will seem like this is a flawless diamond. It is beautiful, it controls like a charm, and the story behind it all is mysterious and dark. The more you play, however, the more you realise that, under the wallpaper-worthy vistas lies something that leans more towards generic than awesome, with combat in particular slowly turning into a repetitive slog. Sadly, this is nothing more an ‘okay’ metroidvania. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Nathaniel Stevens | 8.5 / 10 | 08-25-2017 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a well-planned and executed game from Binary Haze Interactive. It has some repetitive shortcomings, but the fun boss fights and massive levels will help you get through the grind. | Read review |
Eurogamer | Vikki Blake | Recommended | 07-02-2021 | Nothing new but there’s some lovely texture in this dark fable. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Giulia Martino | 8.6 / 10 | 06-27-2021 | ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights has a structure that is certainly classic and recognizable for fans of the metroidvania genre, but at the same time manages to amaze thanks to an impeccable execution and a storyline that blooms hand and hand that continues in the adventure. | Read review |
FingerGuns | Sean Davies | 8 / 10 | 10-03-2021 | It might not match up to the genre’s modern day visionaries but Ender Lilies: Quietus Of The Knights is still a beautiful and engrossing Metroidvania title. A convoluted plot and some sections of uninspired combat are offset by fantastic boss battles and a beautiful soundtrack. A worthy stopgap while we wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong. | Read review |
Game Informer | Marcus Stewart | 8.5 / 10 | 07-02-2021 | Ender Lilies may be standard Metroidvania through and through, but it rises above most of its peers with an engrossing sense of progression and entertaining combat, all presented in a beautiful package | Read review |
Game Rant | Pam K. Ferdinand | 4 / 5 stars | 08-01-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a charming and melancholy Metroidvania that doesn’t stray far from its roots and inspirations. | Read review |
Gamefa | Unknown | 9 / 10 | 07-07-2021 | Ender Lilies is one of the most loyal to the Metroid style, which modernizes it beautifully, and despite all its difficulties, if played in principle, it can even be fun for casual gamers. In fact, I have to say that Ender Lilies is one of those games that can make you interested in MetroDvania style and be the beginning of you starting to play titles in this style. | Read review |
GameGrin | Will Hance | 7 / 10 | 07-28-2021 | Ender Lilies features some truly captivating pieces. With its excellent soundtrack and captivating art style. However, the game falls flat in its execution. Making it a game that at times feels excellent and at others feels mundane. | Read review |
GameMAG | Unknown | 7 / 10 | 07-10-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus Of The Knights is a gorgeous and a fun to explore metroidvania, that sadly is dragged down by an awful map, limited equipment sets, and wonky difficulty balancing. | Read review |
GameSpace | LaSt04Ka | 9 / 10 | 07-06-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a very atmospheric game, full of feelings and emotions. It is beautifully terrifying and terribly beautiful, allowing players to admire the destroyed cathedral and crumbling statues, a decayed village, a flooded temple of magic and other charmingly gloomy locations. | Read review |
GameSpew | Chris McMullen | 7 / 10 | 06-23-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights‘ combat could still do with some work, not least because the animation is so gorgeous that limiting your physical attacks deprives the game of an extra dose of visual finesse. But this is still a magical outing that will have you hooked until the Blight is nothing but a bad memory. | Read review |
GamingTrend | Abdul Saad | 90 / 100 | 07-16-2021 | Ender Lilies is easily one of my most pleasant surprises this year. The game has fantastic visuals, challenging and satisfying gameplay, and an amazing soundtrack. If you’re a fan of Metroidvania games, I implore you to give this game a shot as you’ll no doubt be left feeling as satisfied as I am. | Read review |
Generación Xbox | Gabriel Fuentes | 8.6 / 10 | 07-11-2021 | Elder Lilies: Quietus of the Knight looks like a chapter taken from a book that could well be titled “The Art of Making a Metroidvania Correctly.” A production that has caught me from the first moment and that I have no doubt that it will do the same with anyone who has enjoyed with Hollow Knight a game from which he drinks a lot but not to the point of being considered a copy or a veiled “homage”. As a good work of manual, it follows the correct steps already written, but it does not contribute anything at a revolutionary level for the genre, something that does not have to be negative. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Mick Fraser | 8.5 / 10 | 07-25-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a compelling, surprisingly charming little adventure. It may look dark and oppressive, but Lily is a likeable heroine. | Read review |
GotGame | Brian Zuhl | 9 / 10 | 07-02-2021 | Ender Liles takes some influence from popular games and genres, combining them into one impressive package. Supported by one of the most beautiful scores I’ve ever heard, the journey through this destroyed world is breathtaking to behold. While challenging, mastering combat is a rewarding experience, culminating in immensely satisfying boss fights. While the RPG side of this action RPG could use a little more polish, the rest of the game is still a work of art. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Chris Shive | 4.5 / 5 stars | 07-19-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a fantastic metroidvania. | Read review |
Hey Poor Player | Josh Speer | 4.5 / 5 stars | 06-21-2021 | ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is one of the best Metroidvanias I’ve played. Sure, it’s challenging, but also well balanced and fair. When you add stunning artwork, captivating music and a touching story, you have a winner. | Read review |
IGN Italy | Damaso Scibetta | 9 / 10 | 06-26-2021 | A classic new metroidvania inspired by Hollow Knight. It brings nothing new in the genre, but it makes no errors resulting in a very solid game with well crafted and various mechanics. It will lead you for more than 25 hours through an interesting realm hiding a fine story in it. A gem that simply deserves a place in the Olympus of metroidvanias. | Read review |
JVL | Kikitoès | 9 / 10 | 07-11-2021 | Ender Lilies is undoubtedly a very good Metroidvania. Carried by a sublime OST and a high-flying artistic direction, the app makes practically a faultless at all levels. | Read review |
KeenGamer | Kenzie Du | 8.8 / 10 | 07-05-2021 | ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is a visually gorgeous game with mesmerising gameplay. You’ll be enthralled as you traverse this vast metroidvania, and discover a compelling story as you progress. With exciting and unique mechanics, and challenging combat, this game will certainly keep you entertained. | Read review |
Niche Gamer | Brandon Lyttle | 9 / 10 | 06-23-2021 | Players will find themselves enamored with the game’s grimdark aesthetic and art direction; and while there may be some hiccups with the stage design or some frustration with the combat, Ender Lilies is a welcome addition to the Metroidvania genre that is likely to satisfy a broad swathe of gamers. | Read review |
Nintendo Life | Oliver Reynolds | 9 / 10 | 06-26-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is one of the strongest Metroidvanias of 2021, and easily one of the best examples of the genre on Switch to date. It boasts excellent visuals throughout, with bursts of colour lighting up the otherwise dreary kingdom, and a wonderful soundtrack that we guarantee will live rent-free in your head for hours. All of this is held together by strong gameplay, with a particular focus on customisable load-outs via the spirit abilities. It’s a tough game at times, and the minor frame rate dips hold it back from true greatness, but with a respectable playtime of roughly 15 hours this is an experience you’ll be glad to try out. | Read review |
NintendoWorldReport | Jordan Rudek | 8 / 10 | 06-24-2021 | Nonetheless, Ender Lilies plays well and provides ample challenge for fans of these types of games. Multiple endings will likely compel you to keep exploring every untravelled path, but the final sections of the game will test players to their limits. Ender Lilies may not stand out in a crowd, but those who pledge to cleanse its world of Blighted will be well rewarded. | Read review |
NoesPaisparaFrikis | Impozible Julin | 9 / 10 | 08-02-2021 | The best metroidvania since Hollow Knight | Read review |
Noisy Pixel | Orpheus Joshua | 9 / 10 | 06-18-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a standout experience. From its speedy combat to its breathtaking visuals, there’s something for any action love fan. The minimal challenge may not mesh well with hardcore players, but exploring this dreary world is rewarding enough. The influences of this adventure only supplement its unique action systems, and very little stands in the way of its beauty. | Read review |
PC Invasion | Jason Rodriguez | 8.5 / 10 | 06-18-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights does have a few issues. Overall, though, it more than delivers thanks to vibrant visuals, top-notch Metroidvania platforming, and challenging Souls-like combat. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | José Viana | 95 / 100 | 07-23-2021 | Mixing different genres and mechanics, ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is perhaps one of the lesser-known, albeit one of the best Metroidvania titles released in the last ten years. From start to finish, with very few caveats, the game excels in everything it does. | Read review |
Rely On Horror | Steve Summers | 9 / 10 | 07-20-2021 | A new dark fantasy Metroidvania game has just launched on all platforms. We take a deeper look to see how it compares to its contemporaries | Read review |
RPGamer | Gabriele Malacasa | 3.5 / 5 stars | 08-28-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a solid game all around, with a fun and always evolving combat system, a well-crafted world with tons of secrets to find, and a sober soundtrack accompanying its traversal acting as the title’s highlights. | Read review |
Screen Rant | Scott Baird | 4.5 / 5 stars | 06-19-2021 | Ender Lilies doesn’t do anything particularly new or inventive, but it doesn’t need to. This is a game that knows exactly what it is and what it’s setting out to do. This is a fantastic Metroidvania that will scratch the itch of anyone looking to slowly peel away at the secrets of a huge game world, and it stays fun every step of the way, even if a few of those steps are on less surer footing when it comes to enemy variation or attack animation implementation. | Read review |
SomHráč.sk | Karel Šír | 80 / 100 | 09-05-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights doesn’t hold any surprises for its players, but nonetheless, it’s a more than solid experience. | Read review |

TechRaptor | Joseph Allen | 6.5 / 10 | 06-18-2021 | Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights starts out promisingly, with a massive map, compelling exploration, and solid combat. Unfortunately, it collapses into frustrating, overly difficult repetition by the end. | Read review |
The Digital Fix | Wren Blain | 9 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights is a gorgeously haunting game, in both visuals and sounds. A few oddities in controls but overall a wonderful, tear-jerking and somewhat eerie experience. | Read review |

WayTooManyGames | Jordan Hawes | 8.5 / 10 | 08-13-2021 | Ender Lilies is a fantastic game, with some really cool ideas and twists to the metroidvania genre. It never felt like it was leaning on and borrowing from another title heavily, and I appreciated that a lot. | Read review |
