Destruction AllStars shows great promise for the future, and there's plenty of charm under the hood. But Lucid Games has a bit more work to do to earn your attention.

Scratch the surface and you’ll find a very shallow car combat game that simply doesn’t have what it needs to pull you back in over and over again. Destruction AllStars is unlikely to be the next PlayStation Plus success story.
Destruction AllStars made me feel like a kid playing with Hot Wheels, it’s just a shame how often it falls off the tracks.
Destruction AllStars can provide fun bursts of frantic car combat action, but never adds up to much more than that.

3DNews | Алексей Лихачев | 5 / 10 | 02-13-2021 | Arcade-style racing game which looks spectacular and fun, but actually is shallow and often boring. We are very curious about how the developers are going to update it. If at all. | Read review |
Ars Technica | Sam Machkovech | Recommended | 02-03-2021 | The good outweighs the bad. Get a PlayStation Plus trial and give this imperfect car-combat gem a spin. | Read review |
Atomix | Sebastian Quiroz | 75 / 100 | 02-06-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a game with good ideas that, sadly, lacks enough content to warrant a constant return to this title | Read review |
BaziCenter | Mohammad Talebian | 6 / 10 | 03-20-2021 | Destruction AllStars starts strong with some neat ideas, but then falls behind in-game purchases and being repetitive, and eventually fails to impress. | Read review |
Chicas Gamers | Estela Villa | Recommended | 02-04-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a destruction derby with frenetic gameplay and a good foundation for future growth. If you like the style of play, it will give you hours and hours of fun and we hope that over time more game modes will come. A novel bet by Lucid Games that with time could become the next Rocket League. | Read review |
COGconnected | Ricky Knight | 50 / 100 | 02-16-2021 | Desctruction AllStars had a chance to deliver some creative car combat and it mostly set it sights on being mediocre and forgettable. Granted it’s free for PS+ users so it’s not a large barrier to get into. But down the road this is not a game worth a price of admission unless they prove they can do something better. It’ll likely be forgotten in the eventual ocean of other PS5 exclusives that release down the road. | Read review |
Critical Hit | Darryn Bonthuys | 7.5 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars is both new and familiar, but it’s a refreshing collection of cars, modes, and madcap driving that shows great promise for the future. A mental destruction derby with some admittedly annoying quirks, there’s plenty of charm under the hood of this game that respects your time and smashes into the competition with a gung-ho attitude and some novel ideas. | Read review |
Daily Star | Tom Hutchison | 4 / 5 stars | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a brilliant new addition to the PS5 roster and will brighten up dull February with some colourful car-smashing fun. | Read review |
DASHGAMER.com | Dan Rizzo | 7 / 10 | 02-11-2021 | A colourful, dynamic and vibrant environment will lure gamers into playing the expeditiously paced combat title, but without anything substantial to keep them hooked, its existence may dwindle quite fast. | Read review |
Destructoid | Jordan Devore | 6.5 / 10 | 02-05-2021 | By all means, claim this game and enjoy it while you can if you have a PlayStation 5. But don’t expect it to stay in your weekly rotation for very long. It’s a nice enough intro to the console, but it’s fleeting. | Read review |
Digital Trends | Giovanni Colantonio | 2 / 5 stars | 02-06-2021 | Destruction AllStars has a sturdy engine, but it’s overworked in almost every respect. The needless on-foot component and character abilities clutter an otherwise light but fun pick-up-and-play game with satisfying wrecks. Toss in some overeager DualSense support, and the result is a multiplayer game that’s chaotic for all the wrong reasons. | Read review |

Eurogamer | Wesley Yin-Poole | Recommended | 02-04-2021 | In desperate need of depth and content, Destruction AllStars is at least a fun whiz around the corner. | Read review |
Explosion Network | Dylan Blight | 7 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | Hopefully, there’s an injection of skins and other items to chase over the next month, and it’ll be able to sustain a long-term player base. I’d love to be part of that group as I’m enjoying smashing into cars like never before, but the game needs a better progression system. | Read review |
Game Informer | Jeff Cork | 8 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars’ frantic blend of bumper-car and on-foot action offers plenty of short-term fun, but the thrills are less thrilling after a few hours | Read review |
Game Rant | Dalton Cooper | 2.5 / 5 stars | 02-07-2021 | Out of the gate, Destruction AllStars is shallow and struggles to give players a compelling reason to stick with it for the long-term. But like other live service games, it’s possible that Destruction AllStars will improve as the developers address fan feedback and add more meaningful content to the game. The foundation is there for Destruction AllStars to eventually be great, with reliable performance, beautiful graphics, and fun core gameplay, but there’s a long way to go if it ever wants to reach that point. | Read review |
Gameblog | Vincent Elmer-Haerrig | 6 / 10 | 04-07-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a game that should be offered to all PS5 buyers. If it justifies its place in a basic bundle, it certainly does not have the qualities for a purchase. Too repetitive to be fun in the long run, it could perhaps become more interesting evolving. But its reputation is unfortunately already known. | Read review |
GameCrate | Angelo D’Argenio | 9 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars may not be a killer app that sells you on a PS5, but anyone who owns a PS5 will be happy to add it to their library. It is definitely one of the best perks of owning a PS5 yet. | Read review |
GameGrin | Richard Shivdarsan | 5 / 10 | 02-27-2021 | Destruction AllStars can be an enjoyable Twisted Metal-like experience for those nostalgic for that, but once you feel the frustration of the crashing mechanic and realize there isn’t much to work towards, you’ll probably turn around and use that nitrous in the opposite direction. | Read review |
GamePro | Hannes Rossow | 78 / 100 | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars offers innovative multiplayer action without interruptions, but monetization | Read review |
Gamerheadquarters | Jason Stettner | 4.8 / 10 | 02-15-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a rather bland, minimal in content and generally boring take on the demolition derby genre of driving games. | Read review |
GameSkinny | Justin Koreis | 6 / 10 | 02-10-2021 | Destruction AllStars looks great and is fun to play, but balance issues negatively affect gameplay, and overbearing microtransactions mar the experience. | Read review |
GameSpot | Mike Epstein | 5 / 10 | 02-10-2021 | Destruction AllStars has solid driving, but its demolition derby-style car combat drags as much as it thrills. | Read review |
GamingBolt | Shubhankar Parijat | 7 / 10 | 02-05-2021 | Destruction AllStars delivers delightful carnage and non-stop mayhem, but issues with progression, monetization, and some poorly designed modes hold it back. Hopefully, Lucid Games and Sony will continue to build on this excellent foundation, because Destruction AllStars has the potential to be a special game with a little bit of work. | Read review |
GotGame | Paul Jennette | 7.5 / 10 | 02-10-2021 | Generally, I enjoy Destruction Allstars. It’s a fun, high-energy, launch window title with a future that simply relies on the attention to content moving forward. There’s a great formula to start with, but if this game is going to become as big I want it to be, the content roadmap needs to be promising. If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, I’d oblige you to give it a try. You never know, it might just be your thing. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | Daniel Quesada | 75 / 100 | 02-04-2021 | This new PS5 exclusive offers some amusing ideas while taking advantage of the superior hardware, but it’s too shallow in content and uses some greedy strategies. Future updates could change the situation, though. | Read review |
IGN | Simon Cardy | 6 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | Destruction AllStars can provide fun bursts of frantic car combat action, but never adds up to much more than that. | Read review |
IGN Italy | Angelo Bianco | 7.2 / 10 | 02-06-2021 | Destruction AllStars is undoubtedly fun and has a very original concept, but its lack of content represents the biggest flaw of the combat racing developed by Lucid Games. | Read review |
INDIANTVCZ | Petr Duppal | 7 / 10 | 02-06-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a great arcade game that the developers plan to take good care of. Due to the absence of a season pass or limited skins, there is no danger of FOMO, or the fear of missing something. If you just want to enjoy crazy derbies and switch off for a while, this is a great choice. We recommend the game for 7 points. As I mentioned, this is a “peaceful” game that we all need here and there. | Read review |
Metro GameCentral | GameCentral | 5 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | A fun, uncomplicated romp that’s a great way to relax for 20 minutes or so. Beyond that though it struggles to entertain, especially given the grubby approach to microtransactions. | Read review |
New Game Network | Alex Varankou | 60 / 100 | 02-08-2021 | Destruction AllStars has the foundations of a decently entertaining demolition derby, but that’s about it. The game is short on content, doesn’t feature much depth or serves as a showcase for the PS5, and its only saving grace is that it’s free for PS Plus at launch. When, or perhaps if, the game returns to its regular pricing, it will be much tougher to recommend. | Read review |
PlayStation LifeStyle | Chandler Wood | 6.5 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | Destruction AllStars is loaded with style, flair, and a great core concept, but what you see is what you get. While that’s not a bad thing at all, there are very few surprises and no sense of depth lurking beneath the surface. I want more to do. I want more to chase. I want more reasons to want to jump into another match than just leveling up to earn coins for character color swaps. As a PlayStation Plus free game, there’s a lot of potential, hopefully something that Lucid Games can expand upon before asking people to pay a premium up front. In a sea of multiplayer games begging for people’s attention, Destruction AllStars has a bit more work to do to earn it. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | Joe Apsey | 5 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | Destruction AllStars is a clunky mess of a multiplayer experience, committing a few cardinal sins when it comes to its online experience and offering uninteresting and dull gameplay most of the time. Each character feels unique and their abilities and vehicles are fun to use, but when meshed with the rest of the experience, it doesn’t work. Predatory microtransactions, a lack of lore and backstory into the AllStars, and poor single-player offerings make this the weakest PlayStation Studios title in a long time. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | Bruno Henrique Vinhadel | 60 / 100 | 02-16-2021 | In an attempt to deliver a fun car combat game, Destruction AllStars only show a glimpse of what could be done. Shallow in depth and quite limited in content, the game has nothing more to offer but a few hours of silly fun without much appeal. | Read review |
Push Square | Stephen Tailby | 6 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | Destruction AllStars can be a brilliantly frantic multiplayer game, with fun characters and cars, great DualSense feedback, and entertaining modes. However, it can ring a little hollow at times when the action dips. Lacklustre customisation options and mictrotransaction-locked content doesn’t help matters, but when everything is playing out smoothly, this is more than capable of giving you a good time. Currently free to PS Plus members, it’s well worth taking for a spin. | Read review |

Shacknews | TJ Denzer | 8 / 10 | 02-03-2021 | As far as gameshow/sporting event-style games go, Destruction AllStars is maybe some of the most fun I’ve had in a while. I love the pageantry when a match starts and my character does their intro before kicking things off. The visuals are smooth and pristine throughout the fast-paced action and the gameplay in different modes is absolutely delightful. I would like the foot game to be boosted a bit, and it desperately needs some better cosmetics and an easy-access Mute All function, but there’s an absolutely enthralling foundation here in Destruction AllStars. I want to see more characters, more arenas, events… I want to see where Destruction AllStars goes in the long run and I’ll be happy to keep playing as we work our way there. | Read review |
Sirus Gaming | Lexuzze Tablante | 6 / 10 | 02-16-2021 | Destruction AllStars can be memorable but it’s not one of those exclusive launch games that would make an impact. I’m afraid that with the content Destruction AllStars has to offer, it will not be enough for players to stay and play for a long time, the game needs more horsepower to convince PS5 owners to buy it after it’s out of PlayStation Plus. We might see another live-service game going downhill in just a few months especially with the price-tag of $69.99. Until this becomes free-to-play, I don’t see the game living beyond a year with a decent amount of players behind the steering wheel. | Read review |

The Games Machine | Stefano Calzati | 7.5 / 10 | 02-16-2021 | Destruction AllStars is, above all, fun and enjoyable mayhem, supported by a very polished technical aspect and an undeniably cool stylistical approach. The choice to launch it as part of the Plus Collection will certainly give it a huge boost in terms of playerbase – certainly more than its 80,99€ launch price would have attracted otherwise – but, as usual, these kinds of games are a matter of endurance. And for how long Destruction AllStars manages to keep its audience engaged remains to be seen. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Jim Hargreaves | 6 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | The car combat genre has long been out of fashion and still has a way to go if it wants to take us back to its glory days of the 1990s. Destruction AllStars is a mostly satisfying modernisation that has some neat ideas and looks fantastic, though ultimately spins its tyres on repetitive rival-wrecking gameplay and a lack of truly worthwhile content at launch. | Read review |

Use a Potion | Daryl Leach | 8 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | Destruction AllStars’ chaotic vehicular-based combat makes for an exhilarating (and surprisingly strategic) experience that I’ve had a blast playing – I just hope that it gets enough post-launch content and support to keep players coming back for more. | Read review |
VGChartz | Lee Mehr | 6 / 10 | 03-02-2021 | Destruction AllStars is like an unreliable hot rod sold by a used car salesman, but perhaps genre fans won’t mind so much with the new discount. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 7.1 / 10 | 02-04-2021 | Although it features flashy visuals and initially intriguing gameplay, Destruction AllStars begins to get a bit tiresome after a while. It still offers plenty of entertainment but the fun factor doesn’t quite have as much longevity as some similar titles do. | Read review |
Video Games Chronicle | Jordan Middler | 2 / 5 stars | 02-03-2021 | Out of the 4 modes available at launch, 2 of them feel redundant and unbalanced.
