Gorgeous but empty, challenging but not always fair, The Ringed City is a weak reflection of the series’ best traits.
While Ashes of Ariandel created skepticism where there otherwise wouldn’t have been, rest assured that The Ringed City is the genuine article and gives Dark Souls III the send-off it deserves.
The Ringed City DLC is a mixture of things, unfairly difficult in the beginning, it opens up and delivers a thematically fitting end to the series of the whole. Great boss fights as well as a new PvP mechanic elevate it above the previous DLC.

Atomix | Alberto Desfassiaux | 90 / 100 | 04-03-2017 | The Ringed City is a great wat to close such an important franchise like Dark Souls. If you are a fan of this titles, you should check this expansion. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | William Schwartz | 4.5 / 5 stars | 03-31-2017 | Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City is a worthy finale for this game and the series in general. Taking every trick that they've learned over the course of the series and seemingly packing them into one final journey, The Ringed City is sure to please if you're into the masochistic nature of the series. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Morad Halimi | 8 / 10 | 05-05-2017 | The Ringed City is as challenging and enjoyable as one would expect from a Souls game, and although it suffers from some level design issues at the beginning, it's a great conclusion for Dark Souls III. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Gabriel Bogdan | 8.5 / 10 | 03-28-2017 | The Ringed City is not quite the conclusion of the series that fans would've wished for but besides a weak first hour, Souls Fans will get a good portion of challenging enemies and varying places that will entertain you even beyond new game+ for several hours. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Cody Orme | 7 / 10 | 04-06-2017 | The Ringed City is a fantastically punishing finale for the Dark Souls saga, but is held back by linear level design and an underwhelming story. | Read review |
COGconnected | Grady Penna | 82 / 100 | 04-07-2017 | There are a few segments and bosses that feel damn near impossible without the help from a friendly phantom. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Ofisil | 6 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | Dark Souls III's The Ringed City isn't exactly the final piece of the puzzle that people have been waiting for, as it's just more of the same (albeit, very good), and not something that will be hailed as a DLC masterpiece, partly due to its short length. Buy, rent, or never play? Irrelevant. Soulsborne aficionados are already on it… | Read review |
Destructoid | Chris Carter | 8.5 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | If The Ringed City really is the end of Souls, it manages to hang its head high with the rest of the series. From Demon's to Dark III we have more than enough macabre settings to pore over in the years to come. They aren't all created equal, and some of them aren't even created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, but I'll remember each and every one of them for as long as I live. It's been a wild ride. | Read review |
Digital Chumps | Eric Layman | 8 / 10 | 04-01-2017 | The Ringed City conscripts volatile opposition and capacious geography into Dark Souls III's formidable maturation. FromSoftware's blueprint—maintaining infrastructure with careful distortion and clever addition—is now a familiar process, but the quality of their output remains uncompromised. As a tidy finale or a signal marking a hiatus, The Ringed City is pure Dark Souls. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Francesco Fossetti | 8 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | This second DLC is a great add-on which concludes the 'Souls Saga' made by Hidetaka Miyazaki. With a stunning art design and a lot of new enemies, weapons and bosses, The Ringed City is the perfect ending of an incredible series. | Read review |
Fextralife | Castielle | 9.5 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | Plentiful, engaging and beautifully designed content adds many hours of playtime and reasons to return to the base game one year after release, be it to enjoy fashion souls or your powerful new arsenal, or simply explore what humanity may have meant all along. A fitting end to a fantastic game, worth full price. | Read review |

Gameblog | Jonathan Bushle | 8 / 10 | 04-05-2017 | Dark Souls III The ringed City is a good conclusion to the saga, with a great level design, a lot of exploration, good new ennemies, and a lot of "You are Dead". | Read review |
Gamefa | Amirmehdi Namjoo | 9 / 10 | 04-01-2017 | The Ringed City is a competent end for the Dark Souls Franchise. It has interconnected bigger places and better bosses than the previous DLC. Maybe some of the story subjects that were anticipated to be explained are not spoken in this DLC. But after all, if you have ever played any Dark Souls game, you should play The Ringed City. Only the last location itself worth buying these DLC. | Read review |
GameSpew | Sean Mesler | 7 / 10 | 04-06-2017 | The Ringed City is a brutally unkind piece of content that shows the series at its best, but also unfortunately its worst. | Read review |
GameSpot | Daniel Starkey | 8 / 10 | 03-30-2017 | The Ringed City is a well-executed conclusion for the revered Dark Souls series. | Read review |
GamingBolt | Alex Jackson | 9 / 10 | 03-31-2017 | From Software brings the Souls train into the station on a fittingly somber, yet high note with this excellently realized content. The one stumbling block comes from trying new things at a stage where they probably shouldn’t have with introducing the stealth element. nevertheless, as a concentrated showcase of 8 years of Souls and the journey along the way, it’s an excellent send off to the age of fire. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Nicola Ardron | 8 / 10 | 04-09-2017 | The Ringed City DLC is a mixture of things, unfairly difficult in the beginning, it opens up and delivers a thematically fitting end to the series of the whole. Hardcore Gamer | Adam Beck | 3.5 / 5 stars | 03-27-2017 | Dark Souls III: The Ringed City isn’t the swan song that we hoped it would be, but it’s still an enticing adventure for hardcore fans. | Read review |
IGN | Chloi Rad | 8 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City has found a way to revisit the past without a cheap reliance on nostalgia, wrapping up the story of Dark Souls in a way that will be satisfying for fans who enjoy digging into the rich lore the series has been building for the last few years. But you don’t need an encyclopedic knowledge of the Souls series to appreciate the satisfying twists and turns of this short, but exciting adventure, with its abundance of haunting, secret-filled locales and terrifying boss fights. | Read review |
IGN Italy | Gianluca Loggia | 8.4 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | The Ringed City is a very good DLC for Dark Souls 3, far better than the previous one, Ashes of Ariandel. | Read review |
Impulsegamer | Sean Warhurst | 4 / 5 stars | 04-08-2017 | Playing through The Ringed City was a bittersweet experience for me; it felt almost like I was lamenting the end of the series whilst playing rather than allowing myself to truly immerse myself in the content. The Souls series has become one of my all-time favourite gaming franchises and, whilst I commend From with having the plums to pull the plug whilst they’re still arguably on top of their game, there’s a little piece of me that dies inside every time I hear that the Souls series is now considered complete. | Read review |
Metro GameCentral | GameCentral | 8 / 10 | 03-28-2017 | As satisfying an ending as Dark Souls was ever going to get, with some shocking story revelations and memorable boss battles. | Read review |
Oyungezer Online | Eser Güven | 9.5 / 10 | 04-02-2017 | Dark Souls series is over in the possible way with The Ringed City. As a fan of the series, I would be disappointed if that wasn't the case. The Ringed City deserves every penny you will spend on it. | Read review |
PC Gamer | James Davenport | 77 / 100 | 04-03-2017 | Gorgeous but empty, challenging but not always fair, The Ringed City is a weak reflection of the series' best traits. | Read review |
PC Invasion | Peter Parrish | 9 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | Familiar strengths and themes combine with FromSoftware’s apparently endless capacity for creative fantasy design in a finale of suitable grandeur and pathos. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | Francisco Maia | 85 / 100 | 04-11-2017 | The Ringed City DLC fixes the shortage of the previous DLC, presenting much more content, although not everything offered has a satisfactory gameplay. The big highlight are the bosses | Read review |
Push Square | Ben Tarrant | 8 / 10 | 03-27-2017 | Two locations and four bosses doesn't sound like a whole bunch but don't be fooled | Read review |

Saudi Gamer | صالح بازرعة | 7 / 10 | 03-28-2017 | A farewell to the Dark Souls series that showcases all of the developer's experience in terms of concepts and level design, and gives those who care about the lore a chance to explore it further. The Ringed City adds more gameplay hours while sustaining the full game's quality, but it doesn't differ much as it reuses the same concepts of previous installments. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Mario Baccigalupi | 8.5 / 10 | 03-26-2017 | The second (and final) DLC of Dark Souls III proves to be a far more robust and articulated experience than the first one. The level design is tangled yet magnificent, the content is richer and never ordinary. The perfect conclusion to an unforgettable chapter of the Dark Souls series. | Read review |
The Outerhaven Productions | Keith Mitchell | 4.5 / 5 stars | 03-31-2017 | Dark Souls III: The Ringed City is a fitting end for the series that has been my go to for years. A nice selection of enemies, bosses, as well as a nice bit of exploration and items. Definitely an improvement over the previous Ashes of Ariandel, something that should make fans happy. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Dave Irwin | Recommended | 04-12-2017 | A piece of DLC that for fans will signal closure for the lore and single-player offerings – for the time being at least. It has some of the best moments that the franchise has to offer, some not-so great moments, and indeed some throwbacks to key parts of the series. Until the time comes when Hidetaka Miyazaki wishes to return to this beloved franchise, this heralds the season finale with much more confidence than the previous DLC. Praise the Sun! | Read review |
TheXboxHub | Tobias Jurss-Lewis | 4.5 / 5 stars | 04-25-2017 | The Dark Souls plot is as mysterious in its conclusion as it was in its beginning. Of course there are a myriad of scattered clues, references and story points scattered throughout the Ringed City. And I’m sure there’s a myriad more I’m yet to discover. | Read review |
TrueAchievements | Marc Hollinshead | 4.5 / 5 stars | 03-28-2017 | "The Ringed City" has been nicknamed "Dark Souls greatest hits" on the Internet, and that wouldn't be a far-fetched statement to make. | Read review |
Twinfinite | Collin MacGregor | 4 / 5 stars | 03-29-2017 | While The Ringed City may not be perfect, it still serves as a fantastic send off to one of the most engaging series in modern gaming. Even with some lackluster environments and sections that feel artificially difficult for the sake of it, this second expansion reminded me of why I fell in love with this series. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 7.4 / 10 | 04-02-2017 | Dark Souls III: The Ringed City is a worthwhile expansion for fans of the series but it also frequently devolves into a controller-throwing nightmare. | Read review |
Wccftech | Dave Aubrey | 8 / 10 | 03-29-2017 | The Ringed City is possibly the best DLC of the series | Read review |
We Got This Covered | Edward Love | 4 / 5 stars | 04-03-2017 | A greatest hits package of delights, The Ringed City gets just about everything right. If this is the end, as we believe it is, Dark Souls is going out on a high note. | Read review |
WellPlayed | Jordan Garcia | 8.5 / 10 | 04-10-2017 | The Ringed City feels like Hidetaka Miyazaki's send off to the Souls series. It's been a hell of a ride | Read review |
