Bleeding Edge’s characters are cool, but the combat is too shallow to hold attention for long.
Bleeding Edge’s energetic multiplayer battles thrive on close-quarters combat but its camera and lack of team balancing features are some significant issues.
Bleeding Edge has some really good ideas, but not enough content or progression to back them up. It’s a solid pick for a few game nights with your pals if you all have Game Pass, but it still needs some time to develop into a true competitor.

3DNews | Денис Щенников | 5 / 10 | 04-05-2020 | Bleeding Edge suffers from poor content and lack of depth. But the worst thing — it is just no fun. | Read review |
Area Xbox | Sebastián Domínguez | 7.3 / 10 | 03-30-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a good multiplayer game that comes with little content, and at a time when it won’t be appreciated enough. It’s no mystery to anyone that Microsoft lacks AAA games, single-player games. However, Bleeding Edge is a game that should be given a try. It is not as chaotic or generic as they said it would be. Yes, it is an online multiplayer hero combat game. But within that genre it has something to give. Ninja Theory has done a good job, but it will take a lot more for the game to be finished. | Read review |
Areajugones | Ramón Baylos | 7.3 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | Ninja Theory debuts within the stream of competitive multiplayer titles with a game which has some gameplay mechanics that are convincing enough to shine on their own, but whose light goes off as you think more about what might become than what already it is. | Read review |
Atomix | Rodolfo León | 65 / 100 | 04-01-2020 | Bleeding Edge is not what you would normally expect from Ninja Theory, and it’s hard to imagine why they would choose to work on this title instead of focusing on their other, more important, IPs. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Brandon Adams | 3 / 5 stars | 03-26-2020 | The attention to detail, great soundtrack, and largely well-designed characters belie a game that is clearly loved by those that worked on it, but the crippling lack of depth in every area of Bleeding Edge has made what should have been an excellent game a mediocre one instead. I hope Ninja Theory is given the opportunity to expand on the game, but right now Bleeding Edge is fun but forgettable filler. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Bahram Bigharaz | 6.5 / 10 | 04-01-2020 | The latest title by Ninja Theory could be very well considered as one of their weakest works, a title that tries to take its shot in an overcrowded hero shooter genre and fails. Bleeding Edge doesn’t add anything new to the genre, and it seems that it only tried to be another copy of the games like Overwatch. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Cam Olmedo | 4.5 / 10 | 03-28-2020 | Bleeding Edge doesn’t really do much right. In a game where the melee combat is supposed to be its bread and butter, Bleeding Edge’s is clunky and unsatisfying. With only two game modes at the time of this review, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for variety between each match and you’ll quickly find yourself in a cycle of rinsing and repeating until you’re left wanting more and not being offered anything else. | Read review |
CGMagazine | Alex Handziuk | 5.5 / 10 | 03-31-2020 | Bleeding Edge’s many interesting ideas and fantastic characters are overpowered by a frustrating combo-laden gameplay loop. | Read review |
Cheat Code Central | Lucas White | 2.5 / 5 stars | 03-27-2020 | Overall I’m coming away from Bleeding Edge pretty disappointed. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Hailey McKay | 3 / 10 | 04-05-2020 | It’s not an experience I can recommend easily. Maybe if they worked on it, really gave it the old spit, shine, and polish and a handful more game modes, I would consider coming back. But as it stands now, it’s just not worth it. | Read review |
Chicas Gamers | Alba Nausicáa | Not Recommended | 04-02-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a new IP that aims to bring novelties to the genre, with a very particular style and great ambitions, but that nevertheless falls short in many aspects and still has many areas in which to improve. | Read review |
COGconnected | Alex Everatt | 50 / 100 | 03-31-2020 | Bleeding Edge? More like Painfully Dull. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Albert Lichi | 3 / 10 | 04-23-2020 | Bleeding Edge has almost nothing to offer. What potential it has in it is woefully stuck in a product that is so meagre and void of content. It is like taking a single slice of cheese, and trying to cover an entire pizza pie; there just not enough here to make this work passed a few hours, and that’s all. There are not enough modes, not enough interest in the community to keep it going, and the combat is way too simplistic for high level play. | Read review |
DASHGAMER.com | Dan Rizzo | 7.5 / 10 | 04-08-2020 | Bleeding Edge is quite a cool casual game for existing XBOX Games Pass subscribers. It delivers something different to the ordinary arena-based combat shooter and should be experienced by those who have the luxury of getting their hands on it. | Read review |
Destructoid | Jordan Devore | 6.5 / 10 | 03-25-2020 | There’s a decent multiplayer action game concept buried in here, absolutely. Some of these characters deserve to live on in future projects. At the same time, it feels like there are only so many team dynamics to experience. It’s all too fleeting. Once you’ve hit that point of no return, there’s no real motivation to continue. I’d like to pick this back up one day, but realistically, I don’t see that happening. | Read review |
DualShockers | Michael Ruiz | 7.5 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | A certain degree of imagination. | Read review |
Eurogamer | Wesley Yin-Poole | Not Recommended | 03-26-2020 | Bleeding Edge could be on to something with meaningful updates, but at launch it’s Xbox Game Pass filler at best. | Read review |
Everyeye.it | Marco Mottura | 7.5 / 10 | 03-30-2020 | As it stands, Bleeding Edge appears to be a fascinating bet, but perhaps also a gamble on the part of Ninja Theory. Once again, the British developers did not lack the courage nor the appreciable desire to get out of the box, daring to propose something surprisingly far from their canons: the result is a strange online team fighting game with shades of MOBA, which if on the one hand it stands out for its pleasantly over-the-top character and for a satisfying depth of gameplay | Read review |
Game Informer | Andrew Reiner | 6.8 / 10 | 03-31-2020 | Bleeding Edge is engaging for a few hours and then heavy repetition sinks in | Read review |
Game Revolution | Michael Leri | 3 / 5 stars | 03-27-2020 | Lackluster cosmetics are the least of Bleeding Edge’s problems. Ninja Theory may have succeeded in creating a cast of distinct, well-crafted characters that are full of personality, but it stumbled in making an engrossing game around that diverse roster. | Read review |
GameMAG | Unknown | 6 / 10 | 03-29-2020 | Bleeding Edge is currently a very raw game, a failed experiment and a free fantasy of a small group of people who for some reason were given the green light. A small number of main types of gaming activities, poor content and technical problems outweigh the bright characters with unique abilities, nice graphics and a pleasant soundtrack. However, the positive thing is that Bleeding Edge is unlikely to affect the really big next game from Ninja Theory, which we will all continue to wait for. | Read review |
GamePro | Unknown | 50 / 100 | 04-21-2020 | Bleeding Edge does not manage to motivate over long time and captivates with technical mistakes rather than deep gameplay. | Read review |
Gamerheadquarters | Jason Stettner | 6.7 / 10 | 03-26-2020 | Bleeding Edge is fun to play, but it’s rather shallow in terms of content and has some performance issues. | Read review |
Gamersky | 棘皮动物的野望 | 7 / 10 | 03-28-2020 | Melee weapon combat system feels good and intense. Beside that, the number of heroes makes the game relatively content light, and the PvP matchmaking is problomatic and frustrating. | Read review |
GameSpew | Richard Seagrave | 7 / 10 | 04-01-2020 | Right now, Bleeding Edge is an enjoyable but light multiplayer diversion. | Read review |
GameSpot | Mike Epstein | 6 / 10 | 04-09-2020 | Bleeding Edge blends third-person action with MOBA and hero-shooter mechanics to create an interesting but flawed action esport. | Read review |
GamingBolt | Alec Benner | 7 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | Bleeding Edge has a lot of charm and fun to offer, but doesn’t do a great job making a case for itself over other games in the genre; which may hurt it in the long run. | Read review |
GamingTrend | Travis Northup | 70 / 100 | 03-29-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a solid hero brawler that currently lacks content badly. While the foundations of this hack-and-slash arena brawler are strong and the roster of misfit circus rejects is absolutely stellar, there aren’t enough reasons to play beyond the first few hours. Still, every match of Bleeding Edge I’ve played has been enjoyable and fiercely competitive, and if they can retain their player base I’ll happily return to Ninja Theory’s latest chaotic playground. | Read review |
Geeks Under Grace | LJ Lowery | 5 / 10 | 04-23-2020 | Bleeding Edge puts its own spin on the competitive multiplayer formula, but fails to stand out even with its fun action-packed gameplay. | Read review |
Generación Xbox | Javier Sirvent | 7.4 / 10 | 03-31-2020 | The future certainly looks bright, but today the product needs more than just a couple of game modes and 11 characters. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Lyle Carr | 7.5 / 10 | 04-01-2020 | A fun multiplayer brawler hampered by some lag issues and a lack of game types. With an update or two to iron out the kinks, this utterly charming game could go from good to great. | Read review |
GotGame | David Poole | 7.5 / 10 | 03-24-2020 | When all is said and done, Bleeding Edge does feel like a side project for the developer. While it does feel that way, there are some extremely redeeming qualities of it. The aesthetically pleasing style and the unique personality of the characters shine through the gameplay. Even though content is a little light, the game is half the price of a usual game, and it’s free on Xbox Game Pass. For what is available, the game is a lot of fun, and despite the slow progression, there’s always that feeling of “one more game” lingering. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Kyle LeClair | 3.5 / 5 stars | 04-07-2020 | Bleeding Edge has a ton of potential, largely thanks to its fun and well-designed combat, colorful style and characters, and nicely-crafted levels and goals that emphasize the need for teamwork and strategy. | Read review |
Hobby Consolas | David Martínez | 72 / 100 | 03-25-2020 | Bleeding Edge sets a good foundation for a game as a service. We miss some more content (game modes, characters and levels) but it feels truly satisfying when we coordinate with the rest of our teammates. | Read review |
IGN | Kyle Campbell | 7 / 10 | 02-27-2020 | Bleeding Edge’s energetic multiplayer battles thrive on close-quarters combat but its camera and lack of team balancing features are some significant issues. | Read review |
IGN Italy | Unknown | 7.5 / 10 | 03-26-2020 | A very interesting “hero slasher” that at the moment is lacking in terms of contents and variety. | Read review |
IGN Spain | Unknown | 7 / 10 | 03-26-2020 | It is a game that comes very late to the genre that it tries to assault, but at the same time it gives it a certain originality by creating a work in which the combat mechanics are based on hack and slash and not on the simple skills of a regular hero shooter (although there are also and they are key, of course). | Read review |
INDIANTVCZ | Tereza Krečová | 5 / 10 | 05-04-2020 | Bleeding Edge has one major mistake. It tries to be in the spotlight so badly, that it overlooks the fact, that this show already has its own stars. Even though concept of heroes shooters managed to compile in the good-looking way, Bleeding Edge proves, that good concept and potencial isn’t enought without a good use. Heroes are interesting compliation of everything we’ve seen and maps are well-down spectacle. Gameplay is unfortunately chaos, specially without proper teammates, who would jump into crazy arenas alongside with you. Bleeding Edge is one huge gathering of great but also drained ideas bonded together with poor glue, which hold the game barely together. | Read review |
KeenGamer | Marino Unger-Verna | 7 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | With memorable characters and fast-paced combat, Ninja Theory’s new game Bleeding Edge is a promising new entry in its genre. The only question is: will it hold up against the fierce competition, or fall short of the mark set by others? | Read review |
LevelUp | Pedro Pérez Cesari | 7 / 10 | 03-31-2020 | A fun hero brawler that has a long way to live up to its potential | Read review |

Metro GameCentral | Unknown | 7 / 10 | 03-26-2020 | It often feels a little undercooked but the emphasis on teamplay and some very unusual characters offers an enjoyable alternative to other online multiplayer games. | Read review |
MSPoweruser | Paddy Inniss | 5 / 10 | 04-04-2020 | Bleeding Edge may be free for Game Pass subscribers but in no way is that an incentive to play it. I genuinely can’t express how irate and bored it made me feel. Cool character designs and a nifty loadout feature are not enough to keep me hanging onto this game. It’s infuriating to play, provides very little gratification and there are far better options. | Read review |
New Game Network | Alex Varankou | 67 / 100 | 03-29-2020 | Bleeding Edge has a solid foundation as a melee-focused multiplayer action game that tries to appeal to the masses, but it is a bit short on content, and has a few notable issues that need resolving. Within such a highly competitive genre, hopefully changes arrive sooner rather than later, if the game is to have a shot at longevity. | Read review |
Niche Gamer | Frank Streva | 6 / 10 | 04-11-2020 | Even if you like the character designs or core gameplay, there just isn’t enough in the game to keep most people playing long term. You can already see this from the Steam numbers. I suspect that Bleeding Edge will soon become 2020’s LawBreakers, Gigantic, or Battleborn at this rate. | Read review |
PC Gamer | Morgan Park | 58 / 100 | 03-30-2020 | Bleeding Edge’s characters are cool, but the combat is too shallow to hold attention for long. | Read review |
Player.it | Diego Del Buono | 7.5 / 10 | 03-25-2020 | Even if Bleeding Edge has many elements that know of already seen (literally S4 League + Overwatch), Ninja Theory has still managed to make a fresh but above all fun game that comes straight to the heart (and heart) proposing a pressing pace to his games that fortunately end before they become frustrating. This promotes extreme playability both if you want to play a fast game and if you want to spend the whole evening grinding match after match with your friends. At launch, however, Bleeding Edge doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of maps and content, but if that’s the case and we’ll see more and more updates from the development team in the coming months, we’re sure Bleeding Edge will be talking about itself for a long time to come. | Read review |
Rock, Paper, Shotgun | Matt Cox | Not Recommended | 04-01-2020 | The characters may be inventive, but everything else is bleeding out on the floor. | Read review |
Screen Rant | Corey Hoffmeyer | 2.5 / 5 stars | 03-30-2020 | Bleeding Edge wastes its limitless potential with bare bones content and repetitive gameplay. | Read review |
SECTOR.sk | Matúš Štrba | 6.5 / 10 | 04-01-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a decent multiplayer hero slasher that feels a little undercooked with lot of bugs and so little content. | Read review |
SomHráč.sk | Róbert Herda | 50 / 100 | 04-10-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a completely average title, lacking any new ideas. The only things it has going for it are the visuals and combat, but those won’t keep you playing for too long. | Read review |
SpazioGames | Paolo Sirio | 7.3 / 10 | 03-26-2020 | It’s a little sparse on content, but Bleeding Edge now offers a fun combat system, stable netcode and quick matchmaking, and that should be enough for a solid launch. | Read review |
Stevivor | Steve Wright | Not Recommended | 03-24-2020 | Hopefully, little tweaks like these – ones identified and eventually fixed by the likes of Overwatch – find their way into Bleeding Edge sooner than not. | Read review |
TechRaptor | Sam Gowing | 8.5 / 10 | 04-01-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a polished team-based brawler. Ninja Theory took on user feedback from the betas to improve gameplay and, with more content already announced, Bleeding Edge looks to have enough depth to pour countless hours into. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Daniele Dolce | 6.8 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a decent multiplayer action game lacking enought content to keep the players engaged in the long term. | Read review |
TheSixthAxis | Dominic Leighton | 7 / 10 | 03-30-2020 | Bleeding Edge has all the components in place to be a genuinely entertaining multiplayer mainstay, there just needs to be more of it. With only a couple of maps and modes, and far too few skins and emotes, Ninja Theory will need to roll out more content to keep players engaged. | Read review |
TheXboxHub | William Caruana | 4.5 / 5 stars | 03-27-2020 | All in all, Bleeding Edge on Xbox One is just pure fun. It’s a tight, fast thrill-ride that keeps me playing which, as someone who predominantly plays single-player, is not easy to do. While it certainly isn’t what some fans of Ninja Theory may be expecting, it is still a great first collaboration from what will likely be one of Xbox Game Studios’ finest teams. | Read review |
ThisGenGaming | Robby Bisschop | 7.5 / 10 | 03-27-2020 | Bleeding Edge is a fun 4-v-4 brawler and best played with a team of friends. You’ll have a blast while it lasts, but what it offers in wildly interesting characters designs, it’s lacking in longevity. | Read review |
TrueAchievements | Sean Carey | 3.5 / 5 stars | 03-26-2020 | Bleeding Edge is definitely worthy of your time – hopefully more so in the coming months when fresh content is added. | Read review |
Twinfinite | Ed McGlone | 3 / 5 stars | 03-26-2020 | At its core, a unique brawler game that is held back from reaching its full potential by repetitive gameplay and a lack of features that in 2020 should absolutely be standard, at launch, for any game trying to squeeze into the crowded multiplayer game market | Read review |
USgamer | Eric Van Allen | 2.5 / 5 stars | 04-02-2020 | Bleeding Edge has some really good ideas, but not enough content or progression to back them up. It’s a solid pick for a few game nights with your pals if you all have Game Pass, but it still needs some time to develop into a true competitor. | Read review |
VGChartz | Lee Mehr | 8 / 10 | 04-07-2020 | Slender launch content aside, Ninja Theory’s first venture into competitive multiplayer ranks among the most joyously-frenzied brawlers of this generation. | Read review |
Wccftech | Francesco De Meo | 7 / 10 | 03-31-2020 | Bleeding Edge is an interesting combination of features taken from Overwatch, MOBAs and character action games, featuring a solid character roster, a good map selection and two plays modes that feel varied enough. The limited amount of content and the lack of a ranked mode, however, make it difficult to recommend the game as a stand-alone purchase as of now. As an Xbox Game Pass game, however, Bleeding Edge works much better, as players can wait for new content to drop without having to spend money just to get the game. | Read review |
