A new chapter of Ryza’s saga, Atelier Ryza 2 improves the combat system with the interesting Item Rush mechanic. Its longevity is also very good thanks to a wide veriety of activities, but those looking for a challenge might be disappointed by its difficulty. All in all, Atelier Ryza 2 is a game that shows the care and love that went into its making.
Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy is a brilliant sequel that expands upon everything that made the original great, while forging a path forward that can be further expanded upon in the trilogy’s final chapter.
Atelier Ryza 2 is an excellent entry in an item-crafting focused JRPG series. It improves on its predecessor via quality-of-life improvements, more in-depth character interactions and a sprawling story. Plus, it’s absolutely adorable!

33bits | Juanma F. Padilla | 85 / 100 | 01-26-2021 | We can not say that with this installment the saga moves away from the niche where his comfort zone was or dare to look even you to you to the greats of the genre, because the base and the way of telling the story remain unchanged, but the production values and the care devoted to the game have made a clear leap. With this, not only fans of the saga are in luck, but many fans of the genre who were looking at the saga without knowing whether to dare to approach or not, can try this installment as the best opportunity to do so. Ryza 2 becomes, on its own merit, the best installment of this long-running saga. | Read review |
Attack of the Fanboy | Diego Perez | 3.5 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | While Atelier Ryza 2 doesn’t do much to stand out other than its in-depth crafting system, the core joys of the genre are here. If you like JRPGs, you could do much worse than this. | Read review |
BaziCenter | Mohammad Zamani | 7.5 / 10 | 02-10-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 doesn’t have the perfect rhythm, but is almost exactly what you’d expect from a game in Atelier series, and a JRPG in general. Atelier Ryza 2 builds on the series core elements and improves them at the same time, and is a great choice for both the fans of the series and the fans of JRPG genre. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | LaNeysha Campbell | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Overall, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy delivers an exciting adventure JRPG game full of more action and adventure than the previous game. It brings back a majority of the original gameplay, making it accessible for newcomers and longtime fans of the game. In addition to bringing back a lot of the original gameplay, Atelier Ryza 2 also introduces new features that open up more movements and actions in the game that adds to the adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed this game so much and could play it for hours on end. And for $59.99, it’s reasonably priced for the quality of the game you get. | Read review |
Chalgyr’s Game Room | Pierre-Yves Lanthier | 8.75 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | Overall though, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is an excellent sequel to Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout. While the refinements to the gameplay’s perspective of the adventure alone are worth the return, the return of the original cast and of the protagonist for another adventure was something that the series has been missing for a long time. It’s not to say that most of the sequels in the various trilogies weren’t worth it as Atelier Firis remains just about my number one entry, but seeing first hand the growth of the protagonist on their next adventure was something that this series needed and it did it very well. | Read review |
Checkpoint Gaming | Omi Koulas | 7 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and The Secret Fairy will not be for the average gamer but will undoubtedly be a great 20-30 hour adventure for series veterans. | Read review |

COGconnected | Thi Chao | 84 / 100 | 01-26-2021 | Atelia Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is a highly enjoyable JRPG. Returning fans of the series and new ones should be delighted. Ryza has an infectiously bright personality and her relationship with the other party members meshes well. The combat is fast, and the story is intriguing. The heavier focus on exploration, as well as alchemy, is a welcome change. If you haven’t played the original game in the series, I highly suggest that you do. But Atelier Ryza 2 takes most of the negatives from the first title and improves on them in a big way. | Read review |
Cubed3 | Eric Ace | 6 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | There are some truly great parts in this game. Some of the exploration parts were really well done with the backgrounds and environment. The problem with the game overall is each system is fine enough on its own, but does not tie together in a coherent fashion. The alchemy is a little too involved for every single item, the exploration gives far too many items to actually want to sort through, and the battle system has too many small nit-picks to stop it from being great. The story is weighed down by too many trivial plots and it just lacks that ‘cool’ aspect others of the series like Dusk or Mana Khemia had. | Read review |
cublikefoot | Chase Ferrin | 7.5 / 10 | 01-25-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 is a worthwhile follow-up to the original. The combat, crafting, and exploration was already great in the original, but are even better here even, if the story is not quite as good. | Read review |
Cultured Vultures | Thorne Stone | 7.5 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy has a personality all its own with fun crafting and flashy combat, but falls into common RPG pitfalls such as constant backtracking and tedious questing. | Read review |
Daily Mirror | Eugene Sowah | 4 / 5 stars | 01-28-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a great early entry for 2021 and an unmissable gem for JRPG fans. | Read review |
Darkstation | Jukka Piira | 4 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a great entry point for those unfamiliar with JRPGs but who would like to get acquainted with this perhaps mythical genre. At the same time, you also have to learn and put up with grinding, because now and then you will encounter bosses that are a bit too much for an under-leveled party. Thanks to the snappy combat, quick gameplay and easy traversal, you are back in the home base in no time for another go. Ryza’s bright attitude will rub on you and make it easier to go through chores and grinding of real life. | Read review |
DarkZero | Dominic Sheard | 7 / 10 | 03-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy’s core elements come together to make for understanding and engaging friendly JRPG. It has the option to automate complex elements and the battle system can be grasped early on without hours of learning, helped with the solo focused action. | Read review |
DASHGAMER.com | Dan Rizzo | 9 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | The once cheery group faces their personal challenges of growth in this latest chapter; a confronting spectacle that touches on a personal level for many and will undoubtedly tug on some heart-strings. Atelier Ryza 2 is essential gaming in 2021. | Read review |
Destructoid | Adzuken | 7.5 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | I’m sort of in the same position as I was last time around: I enjoyed the experience, but I’m not exactly in a hurry to go out and pick up the rest of the series. If anything, I’ll wait until the next opportunity I get to slip into Ryza’s incredibly tight shorts. Given the series’ typical pace, that will probably be in another year or so. | Read review |

Gamefa | Mahdi Maleki | 8.5 / 10 | 01-28-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is an enjoyable experience, thanks to its improved real-time combat. beautiful art design, appropriate characterization, remarkable voice acting and the addition of meaningful role-playing elements, have added a certain depth to the gameplay which seems to be absolutely necessary for a JRPG game. Unfortunately, the side quests of Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy are not attractive enough, and in addition to weak textures, it disappoints you. However If you enjoy real-time combat and JPRG genre titles, do not miss the game experience. | Read review |

Gamer Escape | Josh McGrath | 8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | While the question remains if Gust will stick with this formula when they eventually move away from titles staring Ryza, I personally hope they continue to revise and refine this model. Gamers Heroes | Johnny Hurricane | 8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | While Atelier Ryza 2 won’t set your world on fire, it does serve as comfort food for JRPG fans looking for a fix. However, those who aren’t fans of the genre should stay far, far away. | Read review |
Gamersky | 深夜诗人老阿吽 | 8.3 / 10 | 12-11-2020 | After the predecessor set up a huge sale with the beauty of Rysa, this sequel did not intend to make quick money or be perfunctory. The more interesting gameplay design has brought me a lot of different experiences. The process of collecting clues in the maze and piecing together the grand story behind the ruins made me addicted to it. | Read review |
GameSkinny | Joshua Broadwell | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 improves on the original in almost every way and, despite a few stumbling points, proves Gust is still one of the best at making something magical out of ordinary things. | Read review |
GameSpew | Kim Snaith | 8 / 10 | 02-15-2021 | Although I’ve picked apart several problems with Atelier Ryza 2, the bottom line is that they’re all minor issues. Rarely does anything detract from the joy of stepping into Ryza’s shoes and simply existing in this gorgeous world. There’s so much to do, and every element of the game – from exploring, to crafting, to combat – is immersive and rewarding. It’s a shame there’s no English voice acting, and a bit more direction would be helpful at times, but even with those faults, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy remains a delightful way to spend 40+ hours of your life. | Read review |

GBAtemp | Eric Zander | 8.7 / 10 | 02-14-2021 | Opinions can differ, but I wouldn’t laugh at anyone who says that this may be the best Atelier game to date. Due to the fact that the protagonist is the same as in the previous game and that the story builds off of the prior one, I highly recommend people play Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout. However, for those who have played the previous game and want to know whether this one is worth your time, it certainly is. | Read review |
God is a Geek | Lyle Carr | 8.5 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy is a lighthearted JRPG, with an incredibly compelling gameplay loop of crafting and leveling up. | Read review |
GotGame | David Poole | 8.5 / 10 | 02-09-2021 | It’s a lot to take in, but Atelier Ryza 2 manages to succeed more than it falters. Even with the fan service, it’s hard to hate this game. With a heartwarming story and an emotionally powerful ending, this is an enjoyable RPG experience from start to finish. | Read review |
Hardcore Gamer | Chris Shive | 3.5 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy revisits Ryza and some of her friends as they deal with some of the challenges in entering adulthood. | Read review |
Heavy | Elton Jones | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Ryza’s new onfield actions, the improved battle mechanics, and the deeper alchemy systems also impress in this quality sequel. Minor annoyances tied to the map layout and the more complex features attached to the alchemy system hamper the game’s overall experience a bit. But all in all, Ryza’s return is a lighthearted pleasure that is entertaining from start to finish. | Read review |
Hey Poor Player | Kenny McKee | 4 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout was a great start, and Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy does an excellent job, for the most part, of building on what was already there. Is it perfect? No, it’s not. But that’s okay. Looking past the fact that this, plain and simple, is a fun game, Atelier Ryza 2 once again keeps my faith alive in GUST being on the mend. I don’t know if there’s going to be an Atelier Ryza 3, but I hope that there will be. And if there is, then I know that it will be even better than the two wonderful games that have made up the trilogy so far. | Read review |
Just Push Start | Mark Fajardo | 4 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | Overall, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is what you’d expect from a sequel. It builds on the base, continues Ryza’s adventure, and holds true to what players love about the franchise. The performance boost found on the PlayStation 5 is welcome, as is the more dynamic gameplay, though it is still going to be an adventure that appeals to that specific demographic. If that is fine, odds are you’ll have a blast seeing what the future holds for Ryza, whereas everyone else might want to sit this one out. | Read review |
MonsterVine | Nick Mangiaracina | 3.5 / 5 stars | 01-26-2021 | Ryza 2 does little to break the mold, but what it does do is polish the existing formula. | Read review |
Niche Gamer | Unknown | 9 / 10 | 04-11-2021 | It’s a solid game all around, albeit a little overwhelming at first. If you’re into fetch quest heavy games (Fallout, The Witcher, State of Decay) then this is well worth diving into; even if you’re not a filthy weaboo like me. | Read review |
Nintendo Life | PJ O’Reilly | 8 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy takes everything good about Gust’s 2019 Atelier adventure and further refines it, resulting in the best entry in the long-running franchise to date. This may still be a relatively small-scale, old-fashioned JRPG experience, but it’s one that’s full of heart, great characters, slick combat and some excellent new ruin-based dungeons. Anyone looking for a relaxed and enchanting JRPG to sink their time into should definitely check this one out. | Read review |
NintendoWorldReport | Jordan Rudek | 8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | The slow beginning of the first Ryza game is remedied somewhat here, and the ability to fast-travel from anywhere to almost anywhere else is pure bliss. The story’s lighter fare, doubly so for the side quests, won’t appeal to everyone, but the solid battle system, intuitive but deep crafting system, and decent overall gameplay loop were all enough to hold my attention and then some. Even though the concoction might not have come out perfect, it absolutely Ryza’s to the occasion. | Read review |
Noisy Pixel | Azario Lopez | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy takes everything good about the first entry and expands on it tenfold. There’s a significant focus on exploration in this entry that makes it feel like a real adventure with limited backtracking and more emphasis and discovery. The battle system is amazing and fluid, if only lacking inaccessibility for its more nuanced systems, and the narrative features relatable moments of reuniting with friends for one more adventure. | Read review |
PC Invasion | Andrew Farrell | 7.5 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 has great crafting and combat. But that’s because it mostly copies and pastes them from the last game. There’s still some new stuff to see and the game is enjoyable regardless, but don’t expect them to reinvent the wheel. Mostly, expect the same wheel. | Read review |
PlayStation LifeStyle | Paulmichael Contreras | 7 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is an accessible RPG that fans of the series will appreciate. There’s not a huge challenge for much of the adventure, but then Atelier Ryza doesn’t bill itself as being particularly demanding. The tactics mixed in with real-time battling is a good mix, and other quality of life aspects help to move the player along the rather lengthy campaign. Hundreds of side quests flesh out the story for those who wish to be fully engrossed in the world, while those who prefer to stick to the main plot can easily do so. A lack of next-generation features isn’t surprising to see this early on in the PS5’s lifecycle, but at least load times are non-existent here. Atelier Ryza 2 is an easy game to enjoy without thinking too much, and sometimes that’s just what the alchemist ordered. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | Garri Bagdasarov | 8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy improves many of the flaws from the original game while carving out its own identity. Ryza and her companions are some of the best this franchise has seen. With a bigger focus on story, combat, and character progression, Atelier Ryza 2 feels more like an overall RPG experience rather than just a crafting simulator. It’s not a perfect game by any means and it does suffer from some issues but they in no way hamper the overall experience. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | Thiago de Alencar Moura | 95 / 100 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a great JRPG and an excellent sequel to one of the most loved and entertaining titles of this generation. Its exploration and combat work well and further elevate a well-constructed narrative that should appeal to fans of the previous title. | Read review |
Push Square | Jade Sayers | 8 / 10 | 01-28-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 is a great addition to the Atelier series, bound to please long-time fans and hook in newcomers. Featuring a colourful cast of characters, an interesting mystery to unfold, and fun crafting features, it’s a joy to sink hour upon hour into. While it does have its shortcomings, they are easily forgiven by how entrancing the rest of the game is. | Read review |
Rectify Gaming | Scott Anderson | 7.5 / 10 | 02-11-2021 | While the characters and story may not have the most depth, the time and attention given to making the most important aspects of the game click are worth their weight in gold. | Read review |
Reno Gazette-Journal | Jason Hidalgo | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | It’s time for some alchemical romance once again as Atelier Ryza 2 builds on the positive elements of its predecessor while also addressing previous issues. A skill tree helps make crafting more intuitive while improved map design and new field actions make exploration seem like an actual adventure. Combat is also more enjoyable thanks to even more opportunities to chain actions. Side quests can be fetchy and the game still has its share of chores that feel like busywork. Overall, though, Atelier Ryza 2 is an improved and polished follow-up that’s even better than the original. | Read review |
RPGamer | Sam Wachter | 3 / 5 stars | 03-11-2021 | Reinventing a series can be a difficult task, one which the first installment did with great success. However, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a great example of fixing something that was never broken to begin with. | Read review |

Softpedia | Cosmin Vasile | 8.5 / 10 | 02-28-2021 | There’s no doubt about it, Ryza 2 is the most refined experience you can get playing an Atelier game as long as you’re not expecting a top-notch story. Aside from the lighthearted tone, nothing stands out when it comes to Atelier Ryza 2’s story; it’s as generic as it can be and there’s nothing wrong with that. | Read review |
SpazioGames | Gianluca Arena | 7.7 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2 is satisfied to offer more of the same gameplay from the first title, with marginal improvements over the game published last year. It’s still a good JRPG but, unlike its predecessor, plays it a little too safe. | Read review |

The Games Machine | Gabriele Barducci | 8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | A new chapter of Ryza’s saga, Atelier Ryza 2 improves the combat system with the interesting Item Rush mechanic. TheSixthAxis | Miguel Moran | 9 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a significant shift for the series, being the first-ever direct sequel with a returning protagonist in all of Atelier. While this isn’t a perfect entry point for newcomers, Atelier Ryza 2 builds on every aspect of the previous game flawlessly. Even with some minor hiccups, the immersive exploration systems and addictive combat are top-notch. The gorgeous visuals and comfy music are just as much of a delight, but the best piece of the puzzle is the relatable narrative about growth and friendship that I won’t soon forget. A highlight of the Atelier series, and an absolute must-play. | Read review |

Twinfinite | Andrew McMahon | 4 / 5 stars | 02-03-2021 | Anyone who loves the Atelier Ryza – or the Atelier series in general – is going to love this game. The slight tweaks that the sequel makes to the combat and alchemy improve upon the already solid fast-paced JRPG turn-based combat known to the series without changing what already worked. Combine that with the vast setting and all there is to do in it, and you’ve got a solid recipe for an Atelier title. | Read review |
VGChartz | Thomas Froehlicher | 5.5 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | By rejecting series traditions, Atelier Ryza 2 ends up disheartening despite boasting a stellar alchemy system. | Read review |
Video Chums | A.J. Maciejewski | 8.6 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Although I still prefer the original, Atelier Ryza 2 is a wonderful experience that fans of the first game will love. It may be a confusing journey at times but the amount of wonder and charm throughout make persevering consistently feel rewarding. | Read review |
WayTooManyGames | Leonardo Faria | 6.5 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Don’t think Atelier Ryza 2 is a bad game. There are lots of good things in it, in fact. The problem is that I was expecting more from a game with a full-fledged Playstation 5 build. With the exception of the fast loading times, the game doesn’t take advantage of the system’s hardware, resulting in a game that looks dated and runs as well as what I would expect from its Switch port. | Read review |
Wccftech | Chris Wray | 8 / 10 | 01-31-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy marks the very first direct sequel in Atelier’s twenty-three years old history. Bringing back Reisalin Stout makes perfect sense and the game benefits from Reisalin and her cheery cast of compatriots. With a light-hearted story taking you on an adventure in a genuinely great-looking and enjoyable to explore environments, you’ll also find yourself pulled in by an enhanced battle system, made even more tactical than before. The constantly returning alchemy is also joined by a system that I’m going to call memory archaeology, helping to develop the new main character as well as the history of the game’s world. Either way, this is a very enjoyable outing and one that will no doubt keep Reisalin as a fan-favourite character in what is arguably one of, if not the best game in the Atelier series. | Read review |
WellPlayed | Kieron Verbrugge | 8 / 10 | 01-27-2021 | This sequel to an already-decent entry in the Atelier franchise makes improvements in just about every area, giving fans good reason to reunite with Ryza and pals for another alchemy-filled adventure | Read review |
Worth Playing | Chris “Atom” DeAngelus | 7.8 / 10 | 01-26-2021 | Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy might not be ambitious, but if you enjoy Atelier titles, it’s a solid and engaging experience. It’s basically the original Ryza title, only larger and more polished. The Atelier franchise usually keeps things fresh with a new protagonist and cast for every game, but with the full cast from the original title, Ryza 2 can sometimes feel like a repeat of the previous adventure. This isn’t bad, since the original Ryza was fun and the gameplay is solid, but it can sometimes feel a touch too familiar. | Read review |
