Visually beautiful and emotionally affecting thanks to strong characters, A Plague Tale suffers from missing gameplay variety and tonal inconsistencies.
An impressively unique stealth adventure which mixes a gothic horror atmosphere with a touching tale of two siblings surviving against the odds.
A Plague’s Tale’s emotive story of resilience is underscored by a backdrop of screeching rats, the unremitting horrors of war, and a genuinely likeable cast of characters.

33bits | Rubén Rionegro | 90 / 100 | 05-29-2019 | A Plague Tale: Innocence is a curious proposal developed with great care in all its sections, starting with a brutal graphic section that leaves many games in diapers. Through a captivating story, we will use different mechanics to overcome the levels. Perhaps it weighs a little exploration and a not very polished enemy AI, but do not get to tarnish a great final result | Read review |

AbsoluteXbox | Andy Langers | 4 / 5 stars | 05-13-2019 | Overall I really enjoyed the game, there a few minor quibbles in terms of the guided nature of the flow and the fact that towards the end you really do realise that you cant really go too wrong. There are not too many consequences to making poor choices either but I wouldn’t let this put you off what is essentially a very good game. | Read review |

BaziCenter | Armin Gholami | 9 / 10 | 05-22-2019 | If you are looking for a whole new experience from what you already had in this generation, look no more, A Plague Tale: Innocence is what you want. A Plague Tale is not open world, does not offer multiplayer experience, and there is no big budget behind it. Instead it offers a linear stealth puzzle gameplay with a deep story and solid narrative, and that’s exactly what we need every once in while. To seat behind our gaming device, disconnect from the whole world and just enjoy a great video game like the good old times. | Read review |
Bazimag | Hamidreza Ghaneei | 8 / 10 | 05-27-2019 | It’s really hard to find games similar to A Plague Tale: Innocence and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons these days. The type of games that focus on characters and the relationships that form between them through the course of the story. Because of its unique character design, its emotional story and portrayal of a world that’s filled with elegance and filth, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a special and ineffaceable game that has made its mark in the history of video games. | Read review |
Bloody Disgusting | Mark Delaney | 4.5 / 5 stars | 05-12-2019 | If you don’t know the name Asobo Studio, you will after A Plague Tale. It clearly had a vision for what it wanted this game to be and despite the presumably lower budget than similar games, it rarely feels hamstrung by financial constraints. It’s a game that looks, sounds, and plays great, and is all wrapped up in a story that unfolds irresistibly. For anyone who still longs for single-player games they can just sink their teeth into and enjoy, A Plague Tale should shoot to the top of your list. It’s one of the year’s best games. | Read review |
But Why Tho? | Quinn Hiers | 9 / 10 | 05-24-2019 | Throughout A Plague Tale, Amicia has to face reality and do horrible things; she is constantly faced with the question of how much is she willing to lose to keep Hugo safe. Just how far will they go to survive? It’s a beautiful, poetic game filled with human monsters who are willing to commit unspeakable atrocities. But, at its core, it’s about the bond formed between two siblings. | Read review |
Cerealkillerz | Gabriel Bogdan | 8 / 10 | 05-13-2019 | A Plague Tale delivers on the technical side (PC Version) and manages to build well made characters and a good story with in a fresh setting. Fextralife | Yuria | 7.6 / 10 | 06-03-2019 | A Plague Tale Innocence does well to explore a plague ridden story and include entertaining game mechanics which makes it unique. Some improvements to certain visuals and mechanics could have made the experience a little smoother, but overall the environments are detailed. The story really shines through such a grim setting along with some memorable ratnado moments. FingerGuns | Rossko Keniston | 9 / 10 | 05-12-2019 | It’s intense, searing with tension and absolutely nerve-shredding, whilst telling a hugely powerful story that hit me hard a few times over. There’s a tremendous depth in this game that I wasn’t expecting, but I’m so glad it’s there. It makes you care for this brother and sister duo who are doing everything they can to stay alive in impossible circumstances, and given everything you’ve had to put them through to reach some kind of other side, you want to see them succeed. Every free moment I had was given to this game, I had to know how it all ended. Amicia and Hugo deserved my time. | Read review |

GamePitt | Rob Pitt | 9.5 / 10 | 05-13-2019 | A Plague Tale: Innocence is a brilliant new IP which satisfied me in every way imaginable. The visuals were simply stunning, albeit a little blurry in certain scenes, the voice acting and music were perfectly recorded and pieced together, the gameplay was broken up between stealth, exploration and puzzles, and the narrative was both exciting and engaging to play through. Despite the few personal issues I had with the forced combat segments, I thoroughly enjoyed playing through this alternative take on the deadly Black Death and how two siblings worked together to overcome the dangers they were faced with. | Read review |

Although its stealth and puzzle mechanics aren’t exactly fresh, having what’s, quite possibly, the most powerful representation of the Black Death in the medium, even if stylized, is reason enough to see Amicia and Hugo’s journey to its end. | Read review |

When you start to see, not just in words, but how the two interact between scenes, you can start to see how the two develop. It makes for a thrilling ride, even if the opposition can be quite terrifying. Combine that with puzzles and it’s a solid adventure for fans of story driven or strategic titles. | Read review |

PlayStation LifeStyle | Lucas White | 8.5 / 10 | 05-14-2019 | My time with A Plague Tale: Innocence felt like stumbling across a low-budget, but well-made genre flick in a rental store that was placed in the horror section because it didn’t fit in anywhere else. Sometimes, when thousands of rats are pouring into a room from gutters, from holes in the wall, from the literal Earth, it’s genuinely unsettling. Other times, the rats bounce within their boundaries in ways that expose them as computer programming, and it’s hard to think of them as anything but puzzle components. But those puzzles were a pleasure to solve, and the meaty, dramatic story tying them together was compelling all the way through, even when it got bizarre at the end. A Plague Tale feels like the sort of game that gets passed over unwittingly, so here’s me suggesting to you, readers, make sure that doesn’t happen. | Read review |
PlayStation Universe | John-Paul Jones | 9 / 10 | 05-13-2019 | With its well designed stealth mechanics, unique setting, captivating story and stifling, often terrifying atmospherics, in Innocence: A Plague Tale, Asobo Studio might well have crafted the best and most pure horror title of the year. | Read review |

Press Start | Brodie Gibbons | 8 / 10 | 05-16-2019 | A Plague Tale, at times, feels like a missing early chapter of the Assassin’s Creed catalogue. Its ability to bend a truly fascinating point in documented history into a fantastical, mythical story that keeps you invested from start to finish is remarkable. It’s a cinematic journey that is uncomplicated in its delivery, managing to occupy gamers without distracting from the game’s narrative and the bond that develops between the de Rune siblings which, in the end, is A Plague Tale’s undoubted strength. | Read review |
pressakey.com | Darius Kubisch | Recommended | 05-14-2019 | With A Plague Tale: Innocence, the French Asobo Studios present an intense stealth adventure that immediately captivates you with its gripping story about the siblings Amicia and Hugo, always carried by a dense atmosphere, beautiful locations and authentic medieval backdrops. Over 12-15 hours you will be guided through the varied events at a pleasant pace, not only getting to know the horrors of war and the “Black Death” as well as the machinations of the Inquisition, but also quiet moments, helpful inhabitants and companions growing close to your heart. | Read review |
PSX Brasil | Francisco Maia | 82 / 100 | 05-13-2019 | A Plague Tale is an interesting new intellectual property. The period of the black death was reimagined with a narrative permeated by mystical elements, while exploring the fraternal relationship between Amicia and Hugo. It is a technically competent game, which conveys a rich and detailed universe, but its potential is barred by a trivial gameplay. Despite the problems, it’s recommended and worth playing! | Read review |
Push Square | Sammy Barker | 6 / 10 | 05-13-2019 | A Plague Tale: Innocence deserves respect for daring to be different, funnelling you through a bleak European backdrop that’s seldom seen. Despite some neat ideas, though, the stealth and puzzle mechanics drag, and the story can’t quite make up its mind about what it wants to be. Furthermore, while the presentation is spectacular, the project lacks polish in key areas and overstays its welcome at times. | Read review |

The Digital Fix | Jonny Foster | 7 / 10 | 05-14-2019 | The sweeping takeaway from A Plague Tale: Innocence is that it’s an imperfect but powerful story on death. It dares to explore the impact of killing in an industry that treats violence as routine and ordinary. That doesn’t make up for some glaring oversights in the acting and writing, however, but if you can stomach seas of vermin and 10-15 hours of thick French accents, this may be the story-driven stealth title for you. | Read review |
The Games Machine | Gian Filippo Saba | 7.8 / 10 | 05-14-2019 | Despite the excellent start, A Plague Tale: Innocence doesn’t really blossom into a real masterpiece. The small bugs, some unintuitive commands and the fold taken by the narrative diminish some of the really positive features. The result, however, is still a good game. | Read review |
